Now take a look at those other coaches and who was on their teams when they had success? Did Phil have great success with Kobe, the best player in the NBA in the in '05-'06 season? First round and out. PJ had MJ and Pippin, Kobe and Shaq, Kobe & Pau when he won. You know who Pop has had and D'Antonio had a stacked team with Nash when PHX were good.

Byron and a young CP3 got the Hornets to their best record ever and of course Scott made the finals twice with Kidd where anyone was going to lose to the Lakers.

Would anyone think anything about Erik Splostra if he been coaching in Charlotte all this time? Yet he was pretty well respected during the big 3's run. The fact is we have had great coaches in this league who have looked bad and good depending on who's played for them. Compare Mike Brown with and without LBJ. George Karl has been up and down based on his teams. etc.

At some point you run out of excuses for being a .400 coach.

Some guys are smart and cherry pick opportunities, and would never have picked losing situations. But even good coaches with crappy rosters show signs of improvement. I enjoyed watching a sucky Larry Brown coached Clipper team because despite their lack of talent, they were well coached.

Some coaches are great teachers. Some guys are good at taking you to the next level. Byron was let go soon after his best year in NJ and NO because he wasn't the guy to get them over the hump.

From Cleveland, we know he's not a great teacher or developer of talent. Kylie Irving went nowhere, and they finally pulled the plug.

Year 1 Lakers? Not impressed by teaching or coaching skills at all. We have a young squad, so our organization has wisely tried to supplement his weaknesses with additional coaches and quality veterans.

My question is who is he keeping the seat warm for? I don't have any evidence to suggest he's a guy to take us anywhere. Do you?

by the way, I completely hope I'm wrong

But when 3 in the poll say he'll take us to the promised land vs 16 at no or undecided, he certainly hasn't convinced to many of us that it's possible.

    Yet.

I think the vast majority of fans think he'll serve a purpose as a coach even if that purpose isn't to win a ring. So by your poll, he's a failure and we have no faith in him. It's a loaded poll, ya politician.
