This last part is blatantly obvious. Our media has COMPLETELY failed us as a country. If every person at Fox News, CNN, MSNBC etc all suddenly dropped dead, our country would instantly become a better place.

Black Police Chief Fired For Confronting Racism In His Department
August 9, 2015 4:16 pm by Counter Current News Editorial Team

The police chief of a town in Maryland was just fired after he took huge steps at calling out and fighting racism within his department.

A crowd of supporters for the Pocomoke City chief gathered outside City Hall last week. They were demanding that their community’s first African American police chief be hired back.

Protesters held signs reading things like: “We Support Chief Kelvin Sewell.”

The demonstrators say that the chief was fired by the Pocomoke City Council on June 29th when he refused to fire two African American officers who had filed complaints against other officers for racist things they had done and said.

The Washington Post reported that the officers said the department was “a hostile work environment” due to racism. The chief saw no reason why the officers should be fired, so he refused. For sticking to the law and the department policies, the chief was himself fired.

The town dubs itself as the “Friendliest Town on the Eastern Shore,” but angry protesters have been calling out the systemic racism of the city council.

The officers filed complaints with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that said they faced racism that was “overt and rampant.”

One example they gave was “a food stamp superimposed with President Obama’s face that was left on a black detective’s desk and a text messagethat read, ‘What is ya body count n*gga?'”

Andrew G. McBride, co-counsel for the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs said, “this is one of the most egregious cases of primary racial discrimination and retaliation for assertion of rights before the EEOC that I’ve seen.” He’s representing Sewell.

“Chief Sewell has a fantastic record as a police officer. He was terminated because he stood up for two African American officers who filed an EEOC complaint.”

One of the African American officers found a bloody deer tail on the windshield of his unmarked police car. When he went to his car, he saw a group of Caucasian police officers standing nearby laughing. It was obvious what happened.

“Each day I went to work, I felt hurt, ashamed and confused. Racism still exists,” Savage said. “And we took an oath to do the right thing each day.”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/c/embed/47829808-2f48-11e5-818f-a242f28e7022

Pocomoke City Attorney William Hudson claims he cannot comment on the council’s decision to fire the chief.

The council has refused to offer any public explanation or statement about the termination. Hudson did say, however, “we deny there was impropriety whatsoever on the part of the city, the former city manager, as well as the mayor and the council.”

“You terminated a man who made a difference,” the Rev. James Jones, said at the protests.

He’s a pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church. He presented the council with apetition that included 500 signatures demanding Sewell’s immediate reinstatement.

“My whole life, we have been treated as lower than Caucasians when it comes to getting jobs,” Kelli Cropper, 42, said. She’s a teacher in Pocomoke City, about a three-hours southeast of Washington.

“We want to know tonight, by whose authority was the chief fired?” the Rev. Ronnie White, pastor of House of Love Outreach Christian Center in Pocomoke City said.

George Tasker, a Caucasian city council member made things worse by coming out and saying to the crowd: “I’m just a mountain boy. I don’t know how to address y’all African American people.”

Afterward, resident Vanessa Jones, 56, said “Pocomoke City has always had ahistory of prejudice. It’s always been racial here, always. It’s supposed to be one of the friendliest towns on the Eastern Shore, and that is not true.”"

Looks like another incident in El Cajon, CA.

This is not looking good at all. (Not saying for either side, just the situation in general.)

The problem with this one is there needs to be immediate transparency or it looks bad even if the cops were in the right. The man they shot was reported to be mentally unstable by his sister, and there's a still picture of him pointing his hands or something at the police in a shooting stance. I can understand if the police shot him in a split second decision because they couldn't tell that he didn't actually have a gun in his hands pointed at them, but the problem is people said the police confiscated any cell phones of anyone who might have gotten video of the shooting and they haven't released any dash-cam or any other video. That doesn't look good for them.

Yeah, when I saw that photo, it looked like he had a weapon. So, you can only imagine what it would be like in the officer's shoes with a mentally unstable person.

What should have happened was that the sister should've told the officer's that he was unarmed when she made the call to come help.

Otherwise, this is going to another one of those "hard to tell" situations where it was a split second decision.

Another thing I've been wondering is if the police are trained to shoot to incapacitate? I know it's a lightning quick decision to make, but would it make sense to say, shoot the arm or leg before unloading on someone, unless of course, it's a shootout.

Tasers are for incapacitating someone. Distance and time are the 2 barriers. If the person has a gun, no cop is using a taser. They also don't aim for legs, arms, etc. Center mass. That's never going to change.

The El Cajon police have said it is absolutely false that they confiscated any phones. Are they lying? I doubt it as that would be really easy to prove. Also, the reports were that the person was having a seizure which looking at the picture is clearly not the case.

What is with all the videos being taken by people of these shootings by relatives? WTF? If my brother/wife/mother/child/friend was in that situation, I'm not going to be pulling out my phone. I'm going to be trying to get in a position to talk to them and get them to stop what they are doing.

I don't even know what to say anymore. This is a catch 22 that will likely never end in my lifetime anyway.

He's sitting on his moms' front porch. I understand if these cops need to check out everything to make sure there's no problem, but what did this guy do to deserve getting punched in the face and hog tied? Say that the police were harassing him on the phone? This is ridiculous.

Watch Greensboro leaders release ‘disturbing’ body camera video of former police officer Body camera video released Monday by city leaders shows a former Greensboro police officer using "disturbing" excessive force. City council members also on Monday voted 8-0 in favor of a resolution calling for the permanent suspension of former Greensboro officer Travis Cole's law enforcement certification.

The video shows Cole displaying "wrongful conduct" during an incident on June 17.

When city leaders released the video during a press conference Monday, several people applauded.

The incident began with Cole and another officer responding to a possible breaking and entering call. When they arrived at the house, Dejuan Yourse was sitting on the porch.

Body cameras on both Cole and his partner captured what happened next, now described by police as Cole using excessive force on Yourse, who wasn't injured.

An investigation was conducted on Cole and Greensboro City Manager Jim Westmoreland says there could be criminal charges.

Last Tuesday night, Greensboro City Council got the opportunity to view the body camera video and voted to release it to the public.

“Well, it's horrible! And I say this as a white male representative,” said Greensboro City Councilman Mike Barber last week.

“I was very concerned and disturbed about what I saw,” Westmoreland said.

During Monday's press conference, Mayor Nancy Vaughan apologized to Yourse, who was in attendance, calling the incident "ugly." She read a resolution calling for the permanent suspension of Cole's law enforcement certification. The resolution passed 8-0.

This is not the first time Cole has been in trouble with the department. In August 2014, Devin and Rufus Scales were arrested by Cole for blocking traffic on an empty street, public intoxication and resisting arrest.

Devin recorded his brother being handcuffed without incident, sparking questions about why he was charged. Those charges were eventually dropped and Cole was suspended.

Cole resigned from the Greensboro Police Department in August in light of this most recent investigation."

I havent had the time to read much here, but it's apparent to me our country has done a major disservice to All African Americans.

Civil rights is still relatively a recent thing, but instead of investing in strengthening the family unit and education, and providing mentorship and job training, the government in my humble opinion has in some ways made things far worse.

They've created programs and policies that further a culture of dependence on the government, poverty, and entitlements. They've gone about it all wrong, but it's pretty well documented that there is more crime in poverty stricken areas.

Obama's hope and change only made things worse in an unsustainable way. If we as a country don't choose to make even more wide sweeping changes, the natural progression and time it will take to achieve complete equality among the oppressed will take longer than it should or could. I'd say women being treated more equally has happened s little smoother.

I don't have the answers, but I can tell you I think it's wrong to harshly judge a young black man that grew up without a father, with a mom on welfare and no way to get off it, or a Mom working two jobs, and being raised by the TV and the streets. At some point we are all responsible for our actions, but when you are dealt cards like that, it's hard to pull out of that. It can take MANY generations.

That's one way to rule a country. Build a big enough poor population and get them to vote for you by giving them free money (because you know it won't make them rich anyway).

It's not just the free money. It's free money with conditions. Mothers receive less welfare money if they are living with a male companion. So the children have no male role model to look up to.

Of course, if anyone tries to talk about family units and male role models, the PC police arrive... Backwards country is backwards. :speechless:

So the cop that shot Walter Scott in the back as he ran away, is having his trial right now, and one juror says they won't enter a guilty verdict no matter what. This shooting was about as clear cut murder as you can get. It was all caught on camera, the cop planted evidence (also caught on camera), and it looks like he's about to walk. So what are cameras going to do to help this if this isn't the most clear cut example of murder?

Alright..if this juror is gonna give that cop the benefit of the doubt for not knowing his mindset in that situation or that being a hard job or some nonsense, I'll give him or her the benefit of the doubt and I'd love to hear their reasoning for refusing to even convict on manslaughter here. The murder is on video. The cop fills the man with bullets, lies and radios in a fake reason, and calmly walks over and handcuffs him while he dies on the ground. Zero concern for saving the man's life, handcuff a guy who is full of bullets to "protect" yourself and your radio story, it's just one more dead person right, just another statistic, even if you want to take race out of it (which I don't see how you can).

Without video this cop's story isn't even questioned, same as that other guy in this thread that was in jail for supposedly runnning from the cops in his car and was proven innocent by video, but it is on video. And still someone refuses to even give manslaughter? Was it smart for the man to run from the cop? No, clearly not, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in that moment too and say we don't know if he feared for his life even if he complied as we have seen others comply and be killed over and over the last few years. So maybe neither complying or running were smart choices in this man's mind so he took his chances, and he found out for sure the cop wasn't above shooting first and lying/planting evidence after the fact. Love to hear from this jurorr on their thought process here and why this video doesn't warrant a conviction, what the justification for shooting an unarmed man is. A life isn't something to be casually thrown away because you have a gun and a badge and can do so and get away with it, a man died here. I'm so tired of injustice in this world, so tired.

The cop who shot Walter Scott should be in prison for life. End of story.

I hope they re-try the case and justice is served.

Was he charged with manslaughter, or murder? Murder has a specific definition, and I doubt he would fit into a murderer category.... But manslaughter? That'd be more appropriate....

Also, anyone follow the case? what his defense?
