Baze wants $20mil. Horford isn't coming to play with kids for less than max.

^I would have no qualms about giving Horford the max.

He isn't worth the max but unfortunately, the Lakers aren't worth "max players" either right now. Horford would improve us a lot and he would also give us one more name to throw around when we chase elite players in the following years. He is a 4-5 and can also shoot from distance. Great fit and a very good player/person. Great influence in the locker room.

Worst FA drunk dial we've made in some time. Worst investment since the likes of Gump, Kwame, and co.

60m and this is how you spend it? This is your 12:01 plan? f*** off!

Are we starting from the bottom of the free agent list and working our way up?

I can hear Mitch now: "Timofey fits a need for us. We identified him very early in the process. We expect for him to play at a high level going forward."

Considering we did this procedure the other way around and came up empty year after year, it was good the Lakers didn't waste time for the DeRozans, Whitesides and Durants that they won't get anyway.

Can't say I'm that impressed (stay positive), but with the amount of money that's being thrown around (20million for Bazemore!?) we might look back on this and say its not so bad.

Welcome, big fella. I was pretty pumped about the Hibbert signing. I'm actually less thrilled about this one, but I think that's mostly because Roy sucked with what we were trying to do (whatever that was). I think Mozgov is a good fit, and he's a gigantic upgrade over our previous starting center (Zubac).

    1. I am glad the Lakers didn't hold out for a home run. The big three is Miami has changed the way that free agency works, and before that the culture, by and large due to AAU, has changed. Players no longer want to be the man that a team is built around. Gone are the days of Magic, Bird, MJ, and the other greats that were thinking day and night about beating each other and never even entertaining the idea of teaming up outside the All Star game and Olympics. This has led to a culture of temporary loyalty. Just like in the business world where our fathers and grandfathers worked for one company for decades and now our generation regularly changes jobs every 2-5 years. Big free agents are not going to come to the Lakers until they have a chance to make the NBA finals. In reality the Lakers still have an advantage in terms of money and fame coming from Hollywood, but that is not enough to make up for 17 wins. Better to get a single on an error than strike out looking.

    2. At first this price tag bothered me, but with the cap headed to 94m and then to 110m plus, this might not be as bad as we think. Yes to old man Kingsama 15.5m is a max deal, when you have a 52m cap. Guys are going to hit 40m a year if the cap shoots up more. Its the reality of the bubbling NBA, which is going to burst at some point and the NBA is in trouble.

    3. This is one of those rolls of the dice, that I wouldn't have rolled, but Tim has played huge in big games. He could become a 10/10 guy and that would be great. He could also be a 5/4 guy and that would be awful lol. One day this could be seen as a steal, a OK move, or a disaster. Its really a wait and see.

In the end the Lakers minus Kobe plus Ingram are going to win more games next year. The Lakers need to let the young bucks run and play, develop, and then start building around that via trade. The reality is that the Lakers are going to have to build like OKC did from the ground up and then sign FA. Maybe Tim can be a piece to that puzzle.

Mozgov was 24th the two seasons prior to last year. I'd look for a strong bounce back. He should be top 30 this season.

BTW, check this out: two seasons ago, Cousins was 23rd, right above Mozgov. I think you have to look at the whole trend of these stats to make sense of them. A snapshot is just a snapshot. We need to contextualize the data. Mozgov is not a terrible offensive center, and he's a decent defensive center.

No I didn't to be honest. And quite frankly I hope you are right and I eat crow, because my gut is telling me this is a meh signing at best.

@rodg: re: our discussion from yesterday: apparently mozgov DID have a botched surgery. in which case i change my vote. gotta hope the FO did their homework on this. if he's really last year's mozgov, this is catastrophic.

i suppose the silver lining is that this would be a nail in the coffin type move for the current regime if they were too lazy or incompetent to run down the facts on that one.

if he can play at the level from two years ago, i'm totally fine with this signing.

i'm a bit bothered that he got more than JC, but i suppose them's the brakes when you're a young RFA.

Yeah; it's a system that rewards the older dudes.

But I'm hopeful about all this. Let's get Mozgov in the weight room and continue the rehab. Less pain, more mobility and more strength, and he could be a very good addition. Not a game changer, but it's a start.

I felt we could have this guy for 10M a year if we waited it out.

A botched surgery makes this even worse. What if this botched surgery ruined his knees?

I hate this. This is on par with the Knicks giving Jerome James all that money 10 years ago. This reminds me of when the Supersonics gave Jim McIlvaine that huge contract in the late '90's. This is like when the Mavs gave Erick Dampier 70 million.

This is horrible. I hate this. I can't state enough how much I hate this.

Doc this next few days, probably after discussion about the knee and shoulder on the phone, is where the doctorin' due diligence will come in to see if he can be expected to be healthy again or the deal is off.

But if he can be close to or as good a player as he was just 13 months ago and that season for the almost champion Cavs in those long and "consistent" Part 1 and Part 2 clips on the 1st page, he's a good pick up for center. Definitely not a turd.
