Finally caught up on the last few episodes. I haven't read the comics, but here's my theory. Please don't confirm whether I'm right or wrong lol. Spoiler "Gregory" is Negan. If this is true, I'm kind of upset because my main rationale for this (other than the show teaching us not to trust anyone) is that he kind of looks like the actor that they announced was cast as Negan.
That was an intense episode. Partly because it was a well crafted episode and partly because we're overdue for a character death.
Great episode. Although, it begs the question - have they crossed the line? What separates them from the "bad guys" now? They went in and murdered a bunch of people. They also effectively took over the Savior's deal with the Hilltops (taking 50% of their supplies). The lines getting blurry to me.
This whole ordeal is certainly testing the limit of their hubris. They just took it on the word of these Hilltoppers that the Saviors are bad. I mean we can kind of figure it out because of the context, but the characters are certainly jumping to the worst conclusion very quickly. They're setting up a pretty big event in the comics though with a ton of foreshadowing... Spoiler: Big comic spoilers They're setting up Glenn's death right now. When he takes the heat for Dr. Dre (I forget the character's name) and kills that guy it's classic Glenn. It's appealing to your understanding of who he is and why he's so important. Yet when he looks up he sees a bunch of crushed skulls............... The true set up for this happened throughout the season though. Every time we thought Glenn died, they saved him. Well later this season he's going to die and everyone is going to understand it's for real. I'm calling it... It's gonna suck.
I don't think they took Hilltop's word. Daryl, Abraham and Sasha saw what the Saviors were all about on the road. The leader on the road told them they normally kill one just to make a point. Hilltop just confirmed what they already knew.
You know what I mean! I'm not taking credit for it, I'm just saying all the tell-tale signs are there now... All of 'em.
True, but it's still a rash decision to just go kill them all. They went in with a very flimsy plan (they didn't even know for sure if there was an armory and where it would be). They could have done far more reconnaissance, gotten more information... They don't know how dangerous Negan is really or if this is just a lot of bluff. They assume it's a bluff.
A little late watching the episode but that was a great episode. I really like the new pace they are going at, no more filler episodes where nothing happens, just straight up plot movement and action. A lot of foreshadowing done this episode, but man the rest of the season is going to rock (I know I keep saying it after every episode but its true). I think we saw this in the comics: Spoiler Didn't they also attack the Saviors quickly as well? I understand why because Rick thinks they are somewhat invincible, they have faced every other group and won so whats new here. They really don't know how big of a threat the Saviors are, all they know are stories from the Hilltop. This encounter will show them the true threat and the lost of a character or two will change Rick's stance on the Saviors.
Yeah I'm not sure it happens exactly like the show, but it's definitely similar. The Alexandrians think they're invincible after they beat the hoard and so they rush into a new fight. In the comics it doesn't go well for them and I think we're going to see the same thing play out here in the show... It's going to get rough...
What's up with the shoe-horning in the love connections of Carol, Abraham, and ummm...I forgot her name...the lesbian chick? Does it mean they're toast?
In the case of Carol and Tara I think the love connections is a way of humanizing them, especially Carol. As for Abraham, it's essentially straight from the comics. Instead of it being Sasha it's a girl named Holly.
Exactly. But does that mean the writers are trying to connect the audience with the characters to make their deaths more dramatic, meaning they're as good as dead? Or are they deepening the characters' development to keep them on longer?
I thought they have Holly in the show they just haven't had Abraham with her, and Holly isn't a big character like she is in the comic.
I think it's character development for Spoiler Tara and Carol. But Carol might be borderline because in just that one episode her character almost does a 180. .
I think this is it right here. They may also be preparing a few people for death. When the moment comes there'll be emotional attachment for a handful of people and so it'll be hard to predict who and how many people will die before the season is over. Maybe one, maybe a bunch of them. I wonder if they thin the herd to try to shed some of the older characters who have less stories to tell...
