They could have done so much with the set pieces. Malibu walkers, Rodeo Drive walkers, Hollywood Blvd walkers.

Ok, I'm about to make an argument that quite frankly sickens me a bit lol

Z-Nation... terrible terrible show in a lot of ways. It's campy. The writing is mediocre at best even if you forgive the campyness. But that show does a few things really well that TWD and FTWD don't do (and probably shouldn't do actually from a perspective of fitting in their universe).

In Z-Nation, anyone can die at any time, and there doesn't seem to be a clear star. I know people die in TWD all the time, but in Z-Nation, they do it differently:

One of the main characters that we have followed since the beginning of the show died in a recent episode and there was no fanfare, no episode dedicated to them and their memory like TWD did with Tyreese. Two characters were running from Zombies, one went right, the other went left, and the one that went left accidentally ran into a locked door, he was trapped, and the zombies ate him alive. That was it. Not a season finally, or anything. I liked that because I felt it was much more in keeping with the situation they were in. You get unlucky, and that door doesn't open, and you die, unlike FTWD where the Crack Head and the black guy get saved by the mother with a door card. How convenient

And then there's the fact that for the first maybe 4 episodes, the person you think is the hero/star and leader of the survivors dies... repeatedly. First there's the army guy that's trying to get Murphy to California. Bad*** super soldier. He meets the current group and then gets eaten. Murphy goes with the current group. There's the leader of the current group, he gets eaten like 4 or 5 episodes in, and his second in charge takes over, and she's been running things ever since.

In Z-Nation they would totally do that, as well as the Cholo Zombies. Shoot, they have Weed they grow that they use zombie's to fertilize and it's supposed to be the best weed in the world and has special (silly) properties.

Then there's the fact that in Z-Nation as the world goes through an apocalypse, someone launches Nukes, and a nuclear reactor is about to overload.

The survivors try to get into the nuclear reactor to stop it from exploding, they get in, try to stop it, and fail, and boom. The survivors now have to haul a** to get away, and all of a sudden, people are dying of radiation poisoning, and you now have to go west, because the whole east is a nuclear fallout wasteland. I shouldn't have said all the writing is mediocre because I really appreciate how this show will do big changes like this.

So overall, if you can take the corny lines and campyness, Z-Nation has some good qualities and events... I still like to think it's terrible and my guilty pleasure though.

So you like the show because of a character named Travis who is a stepparent? How convenient.

Can't understand how this show is so popular. Or why my wife and daughter watch it :)

Yup I felt the same. Also helps that these characters are familiar to us. What a great episode.

Finally got a chance to see the season premier, and I thought it was fantastic. they did a great job of keeping the suspense up through the episode by using those flash backs instead of just focusing on a linear progression.

Enjoyed the opener. Rick's personality is becoming more and more eccentric, will be interesting to see where it takes him.

I love that people complained about the plot point (the characters' plan) in FTWD - and then celebrated TWD with the stupidest plan in history. C'mon, boys. At least be objective.

Yea the glaring hole in Rick's plan is that you can't control what people outside your community do.

    1. Fear of Walking Dead was way, way worse.

    2. I'm not defending his plan. I thought his plan was a huge risk and could have been better thought out. Isn't the point though that Rick is losing it? He's barely holding onto his sanity right now and yet desperate to be in charge of these people. His plan was incredibly risky and pretty much everyone knew it. He rushed for no reason and because of that put everyone in danger. I think that'll come into play later on in the series. They had time to discuss some other way to deal with the zombies. Like I dunno... Why not put more cars around the huge pit and try to kill them some other way? Siphon off some gas and light em all on fire? I dunno.
