I think a lot of that has to do with Kobe himself. I don't think he wants to come off the floor so Byron just kind of lets him do what he wants to do.

He could play; no doubt. He's the only thing people come and watch at this point. However, down 23 against the C Bags, he shouldn't be playing. That also includes any and all blowouts that we have no shot at coming back from whatsoever; this team will go through a lot of those for the remainder of the season and at those appropriate times, JC should be on the court developing.

You guys are forgetting than Byron tried starting Price before. He actually likes Price and I wouldn't be surprised if he thought Price was good. Combine that with the fact that he's overplaying Kobe. I just don't see tanking. I could see therealdeal's thought process behind, "We aren't going to win with this so I might as well try something and see how it goes" though. To me, that's a little different than tanking.

LOL! So, what Byron said before the season holds no weight now? The number of minutes, joking guys accountable for defense, all excludes Kobe? Preaching defense and then telling Kobe he could rest on that end?

Players notice that, and I am sure both Jeremy and Boozer have noticed Kobe's lapses on defense without any consequence. Yet, they get benched for their lack of defensive effort? Bear in mind, I think Boozer needed to be benched long ago. Nevertheless is there a different standard for Kobe? Scott has shown to be all talk so far and if he keeps carrying this type of double standard hypocritical behavior toward players, it will lead to a fractured locker room.

Actually, yeah. That is exactly what I think. If I remember correctly, I believe Ding wrote an article not too long ago on how Kobe is being given pretty much free reign to do whatever he wants and how that was impacting the rest of the team.

I also think Byron's latest round of comments shows that he isn't too concerned what guys like Lin and Boozer think of his moves.

Kobe just got back from two injuries. Remember that when he and Byron talked about how many minutes they thought he should play, Kobe's number was lower than Byron's. In other words, Kobe wanted to play less minutes.

I don't think Kobe is out there demanding more minutes. At the same time, he's not going to whine if he's playing too much. That's where Byron needs to step in and say, "Okay. Kobe isn't going to say anything, but I think he should play less minutes." Kobe even said he has no idea if he can keep playing like this. He will as long as his body feels fine and Byron keeps him in, but he can't predict the future. He also stated that he can't do things that he used to be able to do when he was younger like battling through an illness. He's exhausted and has stated that his legs aren't there in the second half.

Part of him is "I'm a vet badass, so deal with it," but part of it is just right. I think the way Lin handled it is the right way. You SHOULD be bothered to be benched, and you should go talk to the coach about it. I wouldn't hold Boozer's hand through this ordeal because he's been flat out awful defensively, and he's so limited offensively it's hard to get stoked about his 10-point games.

Shut up Magic. No one wants to hear the bulls*** out of your mouth because your boy is the coach. We should be losing because I won't criticize my friend's lack of coaching.

If it was a coach he didn't like, he would be ripping their a** every chance he got.

For the people that said he has to wait 10-15 games with Price that may potentially prove he's tanking; I posted this because I don't think it has anything to do with him tanking more just a suspicious that he's inflexible, stubborn, and set in his ways. He said from the beginning of the season before the tank talk began that it would take him 15-20 games to make any adjustments; the fact that he says it again don't prove tanking too me; I just honestly think he's a below average coach who never evolved. He likes gritty, tough, old-school basketball that just doesn't work in today's NBA, IMO.

Back in 09 a quote from D. West who was coached by Scott on that 09 Charlotte Team

'I just think that we had gotten to the point where things that we were doing just weren't working, weren't being effective," Hornets forward David West told local reporters.

West said that the team's philosophy wasn't working, and Scott's pride might have been a factor.

"We've had some conversations over the past couple of weeks, just trying to figure out what we could do to get the ship righted, but ... pride is a crazy thing," he said. "I think pride is a dangerous, dangerous thing. I think there was a sense a few guys weren't trusting what we had in terms of our system and our ability to know what we were going to get every single night from our system.

West said the players should be receptive to Bower and Floyd because "what we had wasn't working."

"I think the good thing is that we're 3-6, so getting back to .500 or in the right direction isn't something out of the realm of possibility."

"We're not going to be as predictable as we have been in the past. I know that, having played for Tim before," said West, a sixth-year veteran. "That's something I'm looking forward to, in terms of style of play.'

Hornets fan from 5 years ago:

'And that ego may also be Byron Scott’s downfall when it comes to gameplanning.

That ego allows Byron to be certain his way is best. It makes him certain that what he is doing is right. That may allow him to sleep well at night and control the team, but it also makes him stubborn and inflexible. That inflexibility shows up in his gameplanning – and has in every year he’s been with the Hornets. Byron installs a gameplan during training camp, and from that moment on, it will not change.

Injuries be damned. Personnel be damned.

How else can you explain the force-feeding of Desmond Mason in the post two years ago, when Mason couldn’t post a comment on a blog. How else do the Hornets insist on using the high pick and roll with Tyson out and Hilton Armstrong in, when Hilton sets crappy screens, can’t finish an alley-oop, and has stone hands? How else do the Hornets continue to use a hedging perimeter defense that funnels players into the big men when Hilton Armstrong and Sean Marks pick up fouls like Captain Kirk picks up green women?

Despite the decline in results, there really was no difference between the systems our team ran last year and this one. The difference was the personnel trying to execute it due to injuries. Despite the fall from the third most efficient offense to the twelfth, I saw no meaningful adjustments to what the Hornets were trying to do as the season went on. Defensively, other than a few games where Byron was willing to give a zone a try, there weren’t any changes. Granted, I’m not sure the backups were capable of all that much – but shouldn’t Scott at least try something new for a time?'

    @RandleROFY

How does pride prevent a coach from running defensive drills in practice?

The only reason a coach won't run defensive drills in practice, knowing full well his team is the worst defensive team in the league, is if he's intentionally wanting them to stink on defense. Byron may not be a great coach, but he's not an idiot.

I don't get this...so he's (Scott) intentionally not wanting them to practice defensive schemes/strategy, defensive principles because he intentionally wants them to stink? Byron's scheme defensively didn't work and he has since adjusted his Pick N Roll coverage to better contain point guard penetration. That wasn't on the players; that's on Scott, the poor scheme, and poorly coached players. We're not only the worst defensive team in the league; from my understanding, we are at record breaking levels for defensive efficiency. Grant it, we don't have great players but maybe knowing the personnel to begin with and running a more conservative approach would have helped. I know we're bad but when we're historically bad, isn't there a problem? Byron was the one who was preaching defense from the very beginning but it's been an utter failure under his watch...

Let me make a point of this; Boston played Washington a couple of days ago and Rondo had a triple double. He was magnificent. The other day Boston played the Wizards again but this time Rondo didn't wasn't having such a great game and they ended up down by 23 at one point. Well, what happens? Stevens inserted the bench and they got going getting the game to OT but eventually losing; nevertheless, Rondo was on the bench that whole time while Smart played the best game of his professional career. Stevens could have gladly inserted Rondo in the game...he didn't. He went with who was playing well and they almost pulled out the game.

My point? Scott wouldn't have done that. There have been 2 games; Minnesota and Denver. Both close, competitive games where concidentially Lin has been hot and Byron has pulled him out; specifically in the 3rd quarter of the Denver game at home where points were hard to come by...Lin had it going in the 3rd and was pulled with 3 minutes left in the third quarter where we lost by a very close margin.

In the Minnesota game, Byron pulled both Lin and Davis, Scott sat them both at the same time and we lost the game by 1. Well, we were hypothetically tanking, right? I don't buy it. Byron has a propensity for inflexibility, system problems, and losing locker rooms. As you know, and have alluded to, Scott needs high quality assistants which I support...it was widely rumored in NJ that Prince and Frank handled the X's and O's while Scott played golf.

I see the same things happening here; the writing is on the wall for me. 2-3 season of this and we'll be onto another coach.

It's not just Magic's comment. It's Mitch's recent comment about Kobe only playing for two more years, and encouraging fans to buy tickets now to see him play before it's too late.

As if he's not doing enough already, right? Well, he's already the de-facto PG with the first unit, so it don't matter.
