Was he advertised as a good coach? I always thought he was an average coach at best. He's shown to be a terrible coach. He's D'antoni on D without the offense. He's all talk.

Watch him bench Hill and start Sacre with Boozer.

That would not surprise me. Also, he might as well do it against Toronto, since we're going to get spanked anyway. I can't believe I actually just typed that.

Well, it will happen, except if Kobe goes for 90 this time.

We might have a chance against the Raptors since DeRozan's injured. But then again they have Amir Johnson who will set his career high for the 2nd year in a row against us.

If Byron benches Boozer and puts Davis in with the starters then I will be convinced he's trying to win. If Hill sits I know he is actively trying to tank.

I could see it being Hill based on the weak rim protection from Hill compared to Davis. I'd definitely sit Boozer though. He deserves it most and I'd rather see Hill/Davis than Boozer/Davis.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he decided to bench Lin and start Price. I could totally see him doing that...

the mavs do something like this with dirk to help him keep his legs. seems to be working better for him/them than what the lakers are doing with kobe. in truth, they just need to find ways to get his overall minutes down first.

I also agree with others that they need to find ways to get ed davis on the floor. I know he's foul-prone, but hell, let him use them.

since this is the scott thread, I enjoyed his "zoo animals" metaphor. how this message is lost on the lakers (and some fans, though I think that contingent is dwindling) confounds me. you're everyone else's Minnesota game. play like it. they did.

that said, chalking up the team's deficiencies to effort/execution is...dubious at best, disingenuous at worst. the lakers simply have very little talent. when they step on the floor versus 28 of the other 29 teams, they're going to have to play over their heads to win. this is a hard truth, but a truth nonetheless. effort's not going to fix wes Johnson's brain, bob sacre's legs, nick young's streakiness, boozer's ancient knees (seriously, it's painful to watch him try to stop), or Ronnie price's utter lack of basketball talent.

so, I'm not sure how to evaluate scott. maybe phil Jackson or gregg popovich has this team at 5 or 6 wins. yay?

I thought Byron did a good job preparing the guys for this game, it looked like. I'd like to see Kobe not play 42 minutes but this was one of those games. He had Ellington out around the 3:00 minute mark int he 3rd I believe but there were no dead balls except for Kobe getting to the line.

Byron stuck out the bench to start the 4th and brought Kobe around the 8:00 mark. By the time it got to the 4th & OT there was no taking him out so I can live with it.

Agreed. I can't complain about keeping Kobe in for the OT. This was Kobe's game, period. He was unreal. 19th year? Wow.

As Kobe says, he just went through the wall tonight. But how many stupid things could these guys do in OT? It was as if they were afraid to win the damn game. Still a W!

I agree with just about everything here, but I really trust Sagarin's rankings - he has the Lakers 24th best, so I think the Lakers have to play over their heads against "only" about 23 teams (maybe only 20, in fact). Still, it means that 2 out of 3 games, we're the expected loser. Slightly higher bc we play a West-heavy schedule.

yeah, i could accept some quibbling about whether the lakers sport a better roster than say, detroit or ny or minny or utah, but...that's the conversation...

it's hard to evaluate scott given this fact. i do think the team has shown significant improvement over the first month of the season, though, which says to me that he might be doing something right. it would have been really easy to pack it in after that horrific start.

I still think we're packing it in on an organizational level, but I agree with your take completely. We're an untalented team. Go watch them live and it's painfully obvious. There's just not much out there.
