Looking back at the beginning of Darvin Ham thread, we gave Ham his second interview before we interviewed Stotts & Atkinson?

Think Stotts and Atkinson will get their interviews this time around if they want the job.

Hopefully, we can start the actual search tomorrow Get rid of Ham, please!

Lue will get the boot the minute we sign a new HC. Book it.

I was doing some reading on Atkinson last night. In his first stint in Brooklyn, the team improved over the course of the 3 years he was there record wise. I think the last year he was there they finished 42-40 and made the PO's. Great developmental guy. Analytics driven. Players seem to like him.

Issues were much of the way we had with Ham. Stuck with rotations, no in-game adjustments, didn't properly utilize TO's. We would be taking a chance that he learned from sitting on the sideline with Kerr, which he could have quite possibly or he doesn't and we get the similar complications we had in Ham.

That said, first choice has to be Lue if he's available. Second choice: I'm not sure. Have to do some more digging, but I don't know.

JJ Redick? WTF? That's a guy I kinda liked as a player, but he seems like a complete f***ing tool too often. So self righteous.

Atkinson is a solid coach. Unrelated to D-Lo (lol).

the only reason redick's name is floating around in regards to the lakers job is because of his podcast with lebron. i could see him getting a shot with a team like charlotte or detroit, but he's not getting the lakers job. at least not as a HC

I agree with Helljumper in that is difficult to evaluate a coach. Ham cured me of ever pushing for a rookie coach again. He was talked highly of, said all the right things and then did a 180 when he was hired. My only exception would be promoting Handy before losing him. Did Ham just get fired?

Not saying I agree with this approach, but I could see Pelinka having this thought process. If Lebron really wants JJ, and the FO really wants to keep Lebron, I can see them going this route.

Agreed, Rob could think that way. Hopefully we are done kissing a$$ and will do what gives the Lakers the best chance to win.

That’s an awful way to lead and does not inspire confidence in a new coach search.

So the takeaway from that article, IF any of it is FO sourced, is that we are willing to risk a rookie coach in Redick, but would bring on at least two strong assistants. I'm good with that. You would have at least three minds more strategically capable than anyone we had the last two years.

That plus the Irwin article I just posted in Ham's thread makes me think Lue is the favorite if available. If he's not, then the others available with experience they might see as only assistant level or part of the same poison tree as Ham (Bud and Lee). Not an ideal crop. But anything is better than Ham.

Rondo is a great basketball mind and can possibly be a good coach, but I think people are disregarding the fact that former PGs and All Star players tend to be terrible head coaches. They see the game at a higher level and often can’t comprehend why their players aren’t able to see and do the things they used to do.

He can probably shore up several of Ham’s weaknesses on this team, but I have questions about the post-Lebron sustainability.

Can’t say I’m thrilled at the idea of Reddick, yet another rookie, that doesn’t seem to work too well in LA going by Luke and Ham. Do not want Budz either, or anyone associated with Ham, that’s just riding the coaching carousel and being lazy to me. My choice is Lue, and yes he’s also part of the carousel, but he should have been the coach here 5 years ago anyway, so I hope the Clippers let him go. Beyond that I see no inspiring candidates, just all the same old names, but then it’s not my job to look through the entire league for assistants, G-League coaches, etc to find someone well qualified or just waiting to be the next young genius coach, it’s Rob’s. So yeah.. I’m not exactly confident.

I might have to reconsider my rookie coach thoughts as there is not much else out there. Lue would be great but I can't imagine the Clips letting him go. They know we would nab him. It would be clip like to let Lue go and we win a chip with him though. I don't particularly like JJ cause he seems like a bit of a jerk. But that might be just what we need. Nice guys aren't exactly tearing it up. He is arrogant enough he might be willing to control LeBron in the fourth qtrs and get AD the ball. We might get one more championship out of LeBron after all. I'm starting to like this idea.
