Yep. I think Teague is an upgrade over Hill who has regressed a lot the last couple years. I think it's a decent trade for most everyone. Rumor is this is also a move made to help them pay Horford.
Seems like a very good deal for Indy to me. Teague is quite a bit better than Hill, he was just injured during the playoffs and nobody knew.
Teague steps up when needed... Hill hasn't really helped Indy's cause as much. It could be too that Teague had more opportunities. Hill had to get the likes of George, Stephenson and West involved when they were together.
Hm...I'm not seeing what you guys are seeing. Hill is a good shooter and defender. He has always had a positive impact on his team and is going to a team that absolutely needs a PG. Compared to Hill, Teague is a poor defender. He's more dynamic on the offensive side of the ball, but he has also shot below 40% on 4 out of his 7 playoff runs. He will be taking possessions away from Monta and Paul George, and there's only one ball. It can work out, but I think it'll actually be problematic.
I don't see problematic. The one who misses out will be Monta who is best suited as a 6th man at this point probably in his career. Teague is a former All-Star and has been productive. He's also on a friendly contract for the production level he gives you. I don't think Hill is a much better defender than Teague, but he's certainly a more willing defender. Part of that though is demand and responsibilities. You're trading a guy who is confident in his role player position for a guy with some more lofty baggage, but that baggage comes with more talent.
Forgot that Ellis is there too... Maybe Bird and co. felt they needed just that one more scorer to get them over the hump. Wasn't there some grumblings about the Pacer squad not scoring enough leading to their exit in the playoffs?
Before you mentioned Ellis, I thought of that as well. If I were Indiana, I would move Ellis. That makes things a little less complicated and gives more freedom for George and Teague to run the show. As far as comparisons, I think Teague is just the better player at this point. He does more offensively, I don't think Hill's superiority on defense is enough to outweighed what Teague can bring offensively to a team that needs an offensive boost. Just my opinion.
I really like this move for Indy, I think they handedly won this one. Teague will fit well with George and they get to move Monta back to a 6th man of the year role. Hill is losing a couple steps and doesn't have the all star talent that Teague has. Not a bad deal for Utah I guess. Bad deal for Atlanta. There were far better offers for JT at the deadline that they turned down. The only way this trade looks OK is if they can combine their 1st rounders and move up for Hield. Otherwise, Sabonis is PERFECT there. Teague for Sabonis is a poor trade though.
Rumor is this was also in order to free up room to re-sign Al Horford, but I still that's a poor excuse. Atlanta did not win this trade.
That's a terrible excuse unless he's told them already that he's not even going to entertain FA. I read they might move both picks and get out of the draft entirely to keep Al. With the direction/rebuild they're entering, he's not worth it for them nor is giving up all your assets.
schroeder isn't good enough to dump teague for a late lotto, imo. i was befuddled by their interest in moving an allstar pg on an 8 per deal at the deadline, though. shades of rondo in boston. in that case, boston knew something others missed; we'll see if that's true. still, step back talent-wise.
They're not the only ones trying to abandon late 1st rounders. The C Bags and Sixers are too, but nobody wants them. This is a top heavy draft and the bottom talent is either uninspiring or simply not worth a guaranteed contract. The Lakers could end up scooping up a stud with that #32 pick as teams juggle around in front of them.
