Scott said he'd like to see more of rookie Tarik Black and Ryan Kelly play some power forward.

Scott said starter Carlos Boozer's playing time could be diminished in favor of Black and Kelly.

"I want to get a look at Tarik back in there," Scott said. "So there'll be a point when I tell Carlos, 'I'm probably going to sit you for a few games.' "

Black, who has started six games, didn't play for the third consecutive game.

Kelly is starting at small forward, but the Lakers feel he's better suited for power forward.

Scott said he plans to have a "five- to 10-game sample" of Kelly playing power forward.

Duh. Let's see the young dudes. Why is Byron so hell bent on playing Davis and Hill regularly, but everyone else is interchangeable?

    Boozer (18)/Kelly (15)/Black (15)
    Hill (20)/Davis (23)/ Black (5).....................................Sacre (0)

It's pathetic that he just now had this light bulb moment or more likely, the front office recommended he give Black some time. There is no way he can begin to explain why he's getting zero minutes. He's a veteran whore to a fault.

Great, now bring up someone from the D-League and sit Lin too. Anyone who is at their best already and we have seen plenty of (Boozer, Lin, Ellington, Hill, Wes, Ed) should be getting little to no playing time.

Part of me doesn't want Tarik to develop a jump shot. He's so great at working hard to get boards, I don't want him away from the rim. Look what happened to Jordan Hill.

Incidentally I f***ing loved his game against Utah. He had Gobert a little bit on his heels and that's impressive for a guy a good 4 inches shorter.

We have Kelly and Hill out shooting Js. I agree, I'd rather him continue to work on post moves, rebounding, and D. Bigs don't have to be shooters.

Tarik seems to have pretty big hands too, anyone else think? He seems to palm the ball without the cupping thing pretty easily.

I just love that Tarik attacks the rim like he is mad at it. Finish strong all the time big fella.

One of the best things I loved about Shaq. No matter what especially during Playoffs he would do everything in his power to destroy the rim and put you through the basket as well.

Lakers' Tarik Black doesn't take for granted he'll be back with team
    MIKE BRESNAHANcontact the reporter

The rookie forward-center had his fourth double-double of the season Thursday against the Utah Jazz, his latest attempt to persuade the Lakers to keep him. He has a nonguaranteed salary of about $850,000 next season.

Black plays hard, has shown toughness and makes a relatively small salary in a league in which the annual average is about $5.5 million. A no-brainer for the Lakers to bring him back at least as a reserve, no?

Black doesn't think so. "I learned my lesson this year," he said Friday. "I was doing very well in Houston. I had one or two double-doubles there, I was backing up Dwight [Howard], started 12 games and we actually won, like, a ridiculous amount."

Life was looking up for the undrafted player out of Kansas.

"Every article was the same — 'Tarik Black is a keeper, a surprise because nobody drafted him,'" he said. "Then a situation popped up where a star free agent came and I ended up getting waived. It's why I tend not to think about tomorrow."
Indeed, the Rockets cut Black to make room for Josh Smith after he was unexpectedly waived by Detroit in December. The Lakers put in a claim for Black and were awarded him because their record was so poor at the time.

Black doesn't hold any ill will toward the Rockets, he says.

Sticking with his glass-half-full outlook, he says he loves playing for the Lakers despite their shoddy record (17-50, fourth worst in the NBA).

He has been in and out of the starting lineup, most recently getting 13 points and 10 rebounds against Utah in 30 minutes as a starter.

"I'm very happy with the way I've been playing," he said. "I love this organization. I want to stay with the Lakers. But if I end up somewhere else, I'll just have to work hard there as well.

Black is one of many Lakers facing future uncertainty.

Carlos Boozer, Jeremy Lin, Wesley Johnson, Ronnie Price and Wayne Ellington are all in the final years of their contracts.

Jordan Clarkson and Robert Sacre are in similar nonguaranteed situations as Black, though Clarkson has played beyond expectations and will undoubtedly be brought back.

Definitely keep him because 1) He wants to be here 2) He isn't going to cost us much to bring him back.

A young body like Black who has drawn comparisons to a Kenneth Faried and the fact that he's a great character guy for our locker room who loves to play within his role. What's not to like...

He played GREAT last game. I think he's a keeper. Cheap, young, motivated, and has upside.

For his price tag, unless he does something criminal between now and next season, there's not a single reason he shouldn't be back next year. You can't get the talent level of a young developing player for that cheap very often in this league.
