Rebounding was really solid though. Tarik Black is just an absolute monster on the inside. Did he play with Upshaw at all?

Upshaw 3 blocks in 12 minutes. Physical with good screens. We need to lock him up.

    ok, i'll tell it:

if you want to get excited about the rooks, and you haven't seen this game: erase it from your dvr.

some dude named Lorenzo brown just ate Russell's lunch on both ends. Russell actually looked a bit tentative.

randle looked bad, imo. all that power and quickness is not worth much if you don't know what to do with it. he looked this bad early in preseason last year and rounded into form, so hopefully he's just a guy that has to shake the rust off. but, as a favor to me: work on right-handed layups. the word is out.

Anthony brown looked like he didn't belong on the floor. very slow release and he was way short on a few attempts, couldn't do anything else. i'll be watching him closely, as I thought joe young was the no-brainer pick there.

nance at least lived up to the athleticism/energy billing. once he develops any sort of shot, he'll find a place in the league. and I think he will.

Upshaw is a couple years away, sort of young Bynum-ish out there. pretty decent timing, not great feet on defense.

Clarkson did what he should: kick these kids' a****. good on him; he was the best player on the floor.

black was the second-best laker on the floor.

I imagine lavine will dominate the chatter, but I'm still not that impressed. very Gerald green ish, in the good and bad ways.

towns, on the other hand...holy crap. he looked great. the stats didn't tell it, but he was dominant. great poise, good skills, good power, great work out of the double team just making the simple play (randle: take note). I figured all the scouts knew something I didn't when I didn't understand why he was number 1 by a landslide. if tonight's any indication, i'll eat my crow.

other notes: Dwight buycks is a guy I want to succeed. but he's got to find a reliable jumper. he's a bad finisher, and I don't think he can change that. he's like pat Beverley before he got a respectable stand-still three.

anyway, I'm sure the rooks will get it together and play stronger; I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who hadn't seen the game and was hoping for fireworks from those guys.

I don't remember them on the court together. Black is a wide body, and he's aggressive. I dig it.

Clarkson has definitely improved since last season hes amazing

Russell will play better as he gets used to the speed of the game

And yes randle wasnt impressive in the 1st half but looked much better in the 2nd half particularly in the 4th

I saw enough positives to be really encouraged.

    Heading in the right direction.

Refs killed the fun of this game. Russell looked good, and for a guy that apparently isn't athletic he sure played some solid D. Black looked good too, Upshaw showed potential. Clarkson made it look easy, he was the vet out there, dude belongs in the league. Randle was rusty, to be expected, out for so long. No evidence of his "improved jumper" though, shot is still ugly, even at the ft line. Nance was all hustle, too many fouls, but these refs sucked, so whatever. Anthony Brown, still scratching my head over that 3 year deal.

Randle with 11 points and 1 reb? I'll charge it to Tarik Black gobbling 13 of them though. We got two absolute gems in Tarik Black and Jordan Clarkson. Hard to believe we got two future key players for peanuts. Really impressed with Black, as I was last season as well.

And yeah, Towns is damn good, absolutely the #1 pick. He's got all-around game, scoring, defense, hustle, passing, can do it all.

Yea the refs were terrible and i too was impressed by Russell's defense. For all the not athletic talk there was i thought he was gonna look like nash on defense but he held his own

Were not perfect but were headed in the right direction.

I will hold my judgement on our guys until i see them play a few games because from the airballs i saw tonight a lot of them had pre game jitters.

    I know i'd be overwhelmed

Saw on Reddit that fans at the game were chanting, "Upshaw," but I didn't hear it.

Russell looked solid. Came out really strong to start the game. Has to adjust and cut down turnovers but overall a good performance. The steals were a pleasant surprise.

I think Randle's shooting touch will come. The moves are there.

Didn't show up on the stat sheet but I also liked Nance.

Was glad to see Upshaw get some time.

Definitely too early to be complaining about our performance. It was most of these guys first real taste of NBA action. At least save the griping until our first preseason game.

Heard it in the first half, really quiet though and in the background. Lasted like 8 seconds though.
