Magic not wanting more cooks in the kitchen ego thing? This had to have come up in his talks with Jeanie. If Jerry really was trying that hard back when that all came down with Jim and Mitch being fired, maybe a few more points toward the "spite" side of the motivation. Plus of course the challenge. Jerry may have a goal to do everything in his power to not let the Lakers get better than the Clippers again?

    This sucks.

This is Jeannie and Magic running the ship, though...still a bummer, though.

Can't even win what would be the Clippers equivalent of a championship i.e 4 series in different seasons ... in SIX freaking years with CP2

    well that sucks

not bringing him back was clearly a move by jeanie to show that this is a "new" front office. they don't want to bring in anyone from the past for that reason, even if its jerry west

i mean, i'd understand if it was anyone else, but jerry west? come on. and then to see him go to the clippers on top of that. huge bummer. this better not mean they take a run at ryan too

F*** I can't believe this. I've been annoyingly worried here about losing Ryan West, back to if and when Jim were to be fired and Mitch let go and someone else brought in as GM .... the 2nd West from the Lakers lost. Not that Rob is not an inspired choice (hopefully) and with even more needed essentials then Ryan has at present. But now we find out Jerry himself wanted back .... who f****** knew!! So Jerry not given the opportunity and now boom Ryan gone too. How much power as a "consultant" does West have or need? Is it so much that Magic and Rob couldn't have listened to his council? WTF? Over.

If Jeanie back when she made the move right before the trade deadline, did not ask for permission from GS to talk to Jerry, apparently, how much lobbying behind the scenes would Jerry West actually do? It was the most important part of the Warriors season coming up. Just doesn't seem like something he would pursue hard while he was still under their employment. Did he simply let it be known he'd be interested through a back channel or call and have heart to heart discussion with Jeanie and or anyone else, like Magic?

Honeymoon period officially just ended for Lakers ownership and management. They are going to get hammered in the press. And watch ESPN join in on the fun. They better now all be better than Yoda and his son going forward.

F***. This is the sort of thing that can turn a franchise even as bad as the Clippers around and start a new era that goes for a long, long time.

Jerry/Ryan >>> Magic/Rob. I get why we did it though. Still pissed and sad at the same time...

Would've brought back Jerry just so we wouldn't lose Ryan.

I think the idea is Ryan West heads over there to start his direct training to be GM.

Hey the Lakers made their bed here with Pelinka. Rob isn't old and will likely be the GM for a long time if he's successful. Ryan may not be willing to wait around. Doc has a half a foot out the door. I wonder if this move is even more important for Ryan actually than for Jerry. Honestly if I'm Ryan I'm not eager to go hang out in my dad's shadow, but I will if it gets me an inside track at a GM position.

It'd hurt to lose Ryan, but we've been excited about Rob. I'm willing to give these guys their shot. Push come to shove if Pelinka and Magic arent working we can throw heaps of money at Ryan to get him back.

    this will be interesting

perhaps the greatest GM in NBA history teams up with one of the NBA's historically worst franchises

will west finally provide what they've needed to actually make a deep playoff run? do the clippers keep clippering? does the world end?

Only good thing from this double whammy of bad news: it makes it more likely that LeBron turns the Clipper ship into his personal banana boat rather than come here.

I just heard it said on a regular ststion, not sports, that West and Pelinka are not friendly. There is some history there. That could help explain why no West consulting for the Lakers. Has anyone else heard or read anything about that?

That's pretty interesting. No I never heard anything about that. West, even after Pelinka was hired, still was asking to be here. Even if that's true, I don't think that was the holdup.
