I like it a lot, it’s a fresh, fun show, disconnected from most other stuff we’ve seen so far. The kid cast is really good, Jude Law has been great, it’s just been fun. I had such little hopes going in, but still went in completely open-minded, and that has been rewarded. There’s no way Kathleen Kennedy had any hand in this as well aside from giving it the ok to go ahead, it’s too much like old Star Wars. Characters facing actual peril, failing, learning and growing, unlike certain characters in the sequel trilogy. I guess it took using actual kids to get that same sort of feel the original Star Wars cast had, like genuine wonder and growing friendships as they experience adventure together. Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here, and I hope more people start watching, I would definitely call the show appropriate and fun for the whole family. That and Disney needs to be shown by the audience numbers that this is more of a direction that people like.

Completely agree. I was tempted to skip it but my son (age 8) was actually interested in it after seeing a commercial. He’s never expressed interest in anything Star Wars so I said sure. I figured he’d tap out pretty quickly once it started to stink.

but what do you know, we both are enjoying it. There’s enough mystery and lore to keep me watching and he likes watching the kids figure things out.

Maybe the best thing for me is it’s a show that actually feels like it’s written by people who like Star Wars and the Jedi. All the other shows could learn something from that.

So I’ve gone from not caring to also hoping more people watch and we get more seasons of this. They damaged the brand so much that I totally understand why so many gave up but hopefully Disney sees they’ve got something here and keep it going. They could actually carve out a unique part of the Star Wars universe here and actually do the work and build great new characters instead of just telling us the characters are great and getting mad at everyone for disagreeing

I'm also enjoying Skeleton Crew. I really liked the first couple of episodes, the last few not quite as much but still fine overall. It was fun to see a slice of life in the Star Wars galaxy on At Attin completely detached from the Skywalker/Palpatine/First Order stuff. That's what I hoped we would get from Mandalorian (a look at the broader galaxy) before it became so focused on showing the New Republic and Snoke/Palpatine cloning stuff. The idea of a handful of planets being hidden from the broader galaxy such that they're stuck in the pre-Empire era is genuinely interesting.

If Skeleton Crew finishes strong and Andor Season 2 lives up to Season 1, there could be some momentum behind the brand again. I don't think its a coincidence that the two best-received Star Wars TV shows so far (Skeleton Crew and Andor) are side projects under the purview of proven showrunners (Jon Watts and Tony Gilroy), rather than Filoni and Favreau projects. Obviously the first and second seasons of Mandalorian were well received, but I'm not sure they've aged well and the 3rd season was pretty bad. I'll always appreciate what Filoni did with The Clone Wars, but his live action stuff just hasn't hit the same.

Honestly I feel like the Mandalorian got stretched too far due to its success.

Basically, that story got put in the position of having to try and carry the whole franchise after the sequels flopped. I think they were pressing and trying too hard instead of letting the story keep building organically. that caused the story to suffer as they kept working in new characters and storylines losing too much of the focus from Mandi and Grogu. I’m hoping they get that back on track.

Star Wars has to accept the hole they are in and slowly build back up instead of trying to trying to hit all home runs. Tell good stories and win the fans back over. Skeleton Crew could be the start of that.

Yeah, they tried to turn Mandalorian into the blockbuster that the sequels failed to be. I also don't think its a coincidence that Skeleton Crew and Andor have been well received and are intended for more niche audiences than the other shows. Skeleton Crew is clearly geared towards kids, and by extension their parents with Star Wars nostalgia. Andor is closer to prestige TV like Succession or True Detective. I thought Mandalorian was going to be a grittier, underbelly of the galaxy kind of show. But they crammed it with stuff that doesn't really fit together to try and market it to everyone (Grogu for the kids/women, Ahsoka for the Clone Wars die hards, Snoke/cloning subplot for the people that actually liked the sequels, an AI generated Luke for the OG fans, Jack Black and Lizzo for...someone? lol).
