I think that's what's interesting about all this. This has been a s***show from the beginning. I liked Force Awakens when it came out, but there were a few people saying, "Hold up! That was terrible! Something is wrong!" I ignored it and went into Last Jedi ready for more. Then Last Jedi took me and millions of others out. The group of people realizing that Disney was incompetent grew. Disney saw that they had made some serious missteps, so they went with the tried and true method of trying to please everyone, but pleasing no one. Now this movie will bring with it a bunch of other people (like you Weezy).

Our heroes from the original trilogy fought for nothing. It was all to be undone in 30 years. The Force is broken. It is now a Superpower ready to be wielded and used to get through any plot point. It is the greatest weapon a writer has against writer's block in the Star Wars universe.

The thing is, we don’t agree on what JJ had to work with. I think JJ was left with a golden opportunity to do something new and different for this saga and he instead went HUGE and failed. For me all he had to do was leave Kylo as supreme leader with the Knights of Ren and the First Order the big bad. Then the movie is about him and Rey as the main focus, none of the ridiculous emperor stuff. We get scenes of force ghosts talking to Rey, more Luke, Yoda, maybe we get scenes of Luke showing up to Kylo like he had said “see you around kid”. Maybe we get a scene of Anakin (Hayden) showing up to Kylo trying to turn him back, explaining it was Snoke pretending to be Vader speaking to him before. The movie didn’t need to be so huge and over the top, it could have had a lot of action still, the same type of saber fights, but just focus on our main characters and more Luke and past Jedi we know and not add a billion more we suddenly need to get to know and like in 5 seconds. He could have taken his time and explored questions raised in TFA like why Rey had that vision when she touched Luke’s saber, and who she really was, because she’s not a Palpatine, bulls***. Daisy Ridley said she thought it was obvious who Rey’s parents were after viewing TFA in an interview at that time, and no it wasn’t if it was Palpatine.

I could go on for hours about stuff that doesn’t make sense in TROS though, so I won’t. The rest we do and don’t agree on, clearly this was a money grab for Disney, they don’t give a crap about these characters. I watched the Phantom Menace last night after 9 and that movie blows it away, I have a new new (Scott Pilgrim reference) appreciation for it now. Goes at such a nice pace and is allowed to take its time and let us take it all in. Sure the dialogue is bad a lot, sure the acting sucks here and there, sure Jar Jar, but whatever, Lucas loved what he was making and it shows. Where we disagree is that Star Wars is destroyed entirely, I’m going to go back to pretending only 1-6 exist as well as Rogue One and the Mandalorian, Clone Wars , Rebels, and hope Kenobi is a good show as well. But yes I do have little faith in future movies like a KOTOR one unless Disney puts someone like Filoni in charge and gets Kennedy TFO and hacks like JJ away from these movies.

    At least there’s this, Savory

TFA opened with $248 mil, TLJ with $220 mil, this is a HUGE drop off. I hope it gets worse with repeat viewing too, I’d love to see people vote with their wallets with this one, I’m not giving it another cent.

It's a huge drop off for the culmination of the Skywalker saga. If this was done right, we should have seen Avenger level box office

The abrams trilogy is basically a reboot of 4,5,6 but with flying Leias and walrus milk. It didn’t really build on the plot, it recycled it and in some cases tore it down.

that being said, I don’t hate them. The characters are really good, imo.

I watched it and quite enjoyed it. I guess I'll watch some reviews on the easter egg stuff, but to me it seemed some just have an inability to just enjoy it for what it is. It's entertainment. I was entertained, and don't feel the need to be critical. Entire generations grew up on this series, so they were set up for failure as far as trying to make everyone happy. it wasn't going to happen, but I'm pretty surprised at the harsh reviews and so much negativity.

But then again, I'm not a film critic. Turns out I rarely agree with most of them anyways.

I’m glad when people can just enjoy something for what it is. That said, objectively this movie is bad, the script is bad, so much of it make no logical or logistical sense at all. People I believe are basking in the glow of nostalgia with this one, but it won’t hold up, same as it didn’t for a lot with episode 7, without the fan service there is very little actual movie here, and the actual movie makes little sense if you are a fan of 1-8. I’ll let the hilarious Jenny Nicholson break it down better

This is not a spoiler, but I laughed out loud at, "That guy doesn't give a f*** about Star Wars."

So I saw TROS and after watching it, the one thing that came to mind was this scene from Jurassic Park. Instead of applying it to dinosaur cloning, just imagine Dr. Malcom istalking about making Star Wars movies

Every time someone points out something that cheapened the high point of this series - Vader’s conversion - I’m more bummed out.

Spent all week re-watching episode 1-8 (and Rogue One) in chronological order instead of release order for the first time. Finally got around to Episode 9 now.

Overall, I enjoyed each movie of the sequel trilogy individually. RoSW was entertaining and had some badass moments. I left the theater happy.

But the problem is that this movie solidified the fact that the sequel trilogy was an unplanned mess that really had no point. It was not necessary and doesn’t add anything to the overarching plot of the saga. It throws out the world building of the prequels and then tries to redo the character arcs of the originals with new characters. I’m not sure if I’ll ever have the desire to revisit this trilogy.

Palpatine coming back and being Rey’s grandfather in itself is fine. Just lay the groundwork for it in episode 7 and 8. As powerful as Palpatine demonstrated himself to be, and all the other stuff people in Star Wars have survived, it really isn’t that outlandish that he survived RotJ. I actually like the idea of him being the main villain who was pulling the strings for all 9 movies. But again, with no groundwork it comes across as a desperate attempt to retcon episode 8.

I still really dig everything about Kylo and Rey’s connection. When Rey puts the lightsaber behind her back and Kylo is able to get it was just a really cool moment that I couldn’t help get excited about.

The lack of world building was my biggest disappointment. How did the First Order rise to power after Episode 6? How did the Resistance recover so strongly after being decimated in Episode 8? What’s to stop Disney from making another 3 sequels that ignores all this and puts the galaxy back at square one with another generic good vs evil plot template with some new iteration of rebels vs Death Star?

Leia’s death was week and I didn’t feel anything. They really should have killed her off in Episode 8 instead of the cheesy force travel through space.

Would have been so powerful if they actually did have Rey accidentally kill Chewbacca.
