Standings Watch: Race To The Playoffs

If we’re able to snag the 6 seed…man things will start to get really exciting. It would mean we finished the season 10-1 or 9-2 and we’re likely still undefeated with LeBron/AD/DLo. Pretty remarkable this is even a possibility with the 2-10 start and the roster we entered the season with.

 

NO's next one is huge, imo. they have sac at home. sac is 2 games back of memphis, so a loss probably ends any chances there. BUT sac has the higher conference win percentage and thus the tie-breaker (even head to head, both division winners). so if sac wins at NO, they keep the pressure on and can, in theory, get the 2 seed. memphis still has to play at chicago, at milwaukee, at okc, and, most importantly, at NO right after sac plays there.

SO if sac wins, there's more pressure on memphis to win the next game in NO, too. if sac loses, memphis probably isn't quite as worried/motivated.

we really need NO to lose a couple games, minimum. because we're not going to win out.

 

MINN is apparently dealing with a locker room wide "illness" right now that has multiple players out or under the weather..

And you, my fellow LakersFans:

I present to you the State of the Standings, as we proceed with a full day of games on this Second Day of April in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty Three.

Because the soul of this team is strong, because the backbone of this team is strong, because the people of this team are strong, our State of the Standings is strong. In fact, our State is rising and can rise further with valiant play, with a little fortuitousness, and should the ball not lie.

So with that, we shall adjourn our lofty language and examine each relevant seeding ahead. Analysis takes into account 2-way tiebreakers but not 3-way tiebreakers. We are currently in the 8 spot for the 7/8 play-in game.

Can drop up to 2 games vs Utah (even if they are the 2 upcoming games against them) and still stay above Utah in the standings. If we win 1 of our games against Utah, we can drop up to 3 other games vs Utah (including the other upcoming game against them). If we win both of our upcoming games against Utah, they cannot catch us in the standings. (Utah owns tiebreaker against us unless we win both upcoming games against them.)

Can drop up to 2 games vs Dallas and stay above them in the standings. (Dallas owns tiebreaker against us.)

Can drop up to 1.5 games vs OKC (they've played 1 more game than us, so dropping 2 losses is okay if we win 1) and stay above them in the standings. (We own tiebreaker against OKC.)

Cannot drop any games vs Minnesota. (Min owns tiebreaker against us.)

Need to make up 0.5 games vs NOP (they've played 1 more game than us, and we own tiebreaker, so just need 1 win) to get the 7 spot and home court in the 7/8 play-in game. (We own tiebreaker against NOP.)

Need to make up 2 games vs the Clippers (they've played 2 more games than us, and they own tiebreaker, so they need to lose 1 and we win 3, or they lose 2 and we go 3-1, or they lose 3 and we go 3-2) to get the 6 seed. (LAC owns tiebreaker against us.)

Need the above and to make up 1.5 games vs GSW (they've played 1 more game than us, and we own tiebreaker, so they need to lose 1 and we win 2) to get the 5 seed.

Need the above and to make up 4 games vs Phoenix to get the 4 seed. (Phoenix owns tiebreaker against us, even if we win the upcoming game, since that would make it 2-2 H2H, and Phoenix owns division record against us, and not enough division games left to make up the difference.)

Cannot make the 3 seed or above.

Come on Nets and Blazers, 15 seconds left, don't screw this up...

 

WOW, Blazers did us a huge favor beating Minnesota. Nets beat the Jazz and Grizzlies lost to the Bulls too, so they may still be trying to lock up the 2 seed when they play the Pelicans on Wednesday. Huge day for us if we can take care of business against Houston.

 

Pels have the Kings and Grizzlies in b2b games. With the Grizz only 1 game ahead of Sac and the Kings owning the tiebreaker, I expect them both to try and win.

Pels also end the season against Minny. So we may have a little breathing room in case we drop one (or 2) of these final games.

 

Nuggets just tanking - Grizz losing and Sac losing didn’t help for today or upcoming games. But Minn losing was big. We win out we get 6. Simple.

maybe Suns have 4 locked and sit KD, Book, and CP.

 

Suns got this. OKC lost. Mavs lost. Jazz lost. Minn lost. Great day for the bottom seeding. Bad that Sac lost.

Suns only need 1 more win to lock 4.

 

we may end up playing the Clippers for the 6th spot.

that would be a huge game.

Come weds the 5th Lakers and clippers will be tied if we take care of Utah going into that game w the possibility of taking the 6th:RW Barfbag: and bumping the tenants into the play in

pretty sure if we beat the Clips and get to 6th, this team will give its absolute all to keep that spot and avoid the play-in, barring any injury to our main guys.

plus we probably get to play the Kings in the first round which would be ideal
