Kobe is 13th on the advanced stat called "Respect Rating". What is respect rating? It's a nice, modern stat to quantify a player's impact on spacing. Kobe is 13th, ahead of the likes of Melo (31st), Westbrook (39th), Paul (45th), Nowitzki (47th), LeBron (73rd), etc. That is how much defenses respect Kobe, despite his age, shooting numbers, injuries, etc. Think about that. Kobe can be shooting 27.5% from 3PT, but it doesn't matter. People will stick to him like glue, and his movements will impact the offense in ways that weren't previously quantifiable. To explain "respect rating"... "Gravity score" measures how closely a player's defender sticks to him off the ball. Higher gravity scores generally belong to bigs because their primary defender must stay close and also protect the basket. On the other hand, guards typically have lower gravity scores simply because defenders have more liberty to shade off their guy on the perimeter. But elite shooters typically generate more attention off the ball. Then there's distraction score, which quantifies how much a player's defender is willing to help off the ball to stop the ball handler. The worse he is as a shooter, the more likely his defender will be distracted by the ball handler. "Respect rating" is a composite score that combines the two metrics. The top 5: 1. Stephen Curry (not surprising at all) 2. Kyle Korver 3. Klay Thompson 4. Mike Conley 5. Gordon Hayward Curry, Klay, and Korver are the only 3 with a score above 90. Other notable names... I'd guess his defenders stick to him fairly well, but defenses know he won't pass the ball. All-in-all if I'm coaching a defense against Carmelo I just send the weakside help all the time and double him. Force him to pass the ball which he doesn't want to do. Once he takes and misses the shot, crash the glass with three bodies and have the two that were guarding Melo leak out. The one I'm REALLY surprised by is LeBron.
You just don't leave elite outside shooters open. You do that to the Warriors and things get out of control very quickly.
How do you play the Warriors with those two guys? They're both quick, move without the ball, and they're ridiculously good shooters. Plus, Bogut can pass out of the middle. It's a well-constructed team.

They are so good and very fun to watch. If they weren't in our division I'd be rooting for them. The way they are going they are bound to be good for quite some time. Tough competition. It still remains to be seen whether they can get over in the playoffs when the game slows down. Also remains to be seen if they can stay healthy given Bogut and Curry's histories.

We'd have to go 23-25 the rest of the way to hit 34 wins. That sounds about right to me. We've been playing close to .500 ball since the bad start.
