IfJohnson did on defense what we want him to do, that's fine. He can play garbage offense and dunk.

So, by these numbers - Lin, Kobe, Price, Davis, and Boozer are playing the best by position. I'm not including the defensive stats; they require 82games.com's counterpart stats.

^^ That confirms the eye test for sure. Although I don't feel like Randle is doing as bad as his numbers would tell.

Randle lost focus last night. I saw a moment when he got tangled up in mid-air and landed funny. I don't know if he was hurt on that play, but after that he wasn't pushing the same he'd been pushing. Maybe he was just tired, I don't know.

There's flashes there of greatness, but there's still a 19 year old out there. The numbers could look hinky, but it'll depend on what we see in games.

Unfortunately, we probably need five players at the 80+ mark to have a respectable starting lineup. We're not there.

Lin is working his way there. I think Young will be at 80+ pretty soon after he gets back

Young might post 80+ as a backup. In the starting lineup, he probably wouldn't. Lin might get there, too; I definitely hold out hope for him.

You could have Lin, Kobe, Ed and Hill, if you start both. Maybe, I don't know. We're not there yet.

Yeah, we need another decent big. Kelly might be decent, but Randle was the guy I so badly wanted to see.

Don't mean to jack your thread Trodgers, but 82 games put out their first batch of numbers for the season and it fits the Advanced Stats theme of this thread.....

    Carlos Boozer
    - PER - 10.2
    - Opponents PER - 20.4
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 103.3 / 108.9
    - Defensive Rating On/Off - 129.5 / 112.6

    Wesley Johnson
    - PER - 8.0
    - Opponents PER - 13.4
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 109.6 / 99.2
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 126.7 / 114.2

    Kobe Bryant
    - PER - 16.4 @SG and 26 @SF
    - Opponents PER - 35.9@SG and 21.6 @SF
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 106.2 / 104.5
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 130 / 101.1

    Jeremy Lin
    - PER - 10.2
    - Opponents PER - 23.5
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 102.4 / 111.1
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 129.4 / 110.2

    Jordan Hill
    - PER - 22.9
    - Opponents PER - 8.0
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 106.9 / 104
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 127.6 / 112.8

    Ed Davis
    - PER - 22.2
    - Opponents PER - 20.4
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 110.7 / 101.5
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 119.2 / 124.5

    Wayne Ellington
    - PER - 9.9
    - Opponents PER - 17.4
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 113 / 101.9
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 104.4 / 131.4

    Ronnie Price
    - PER - 11.7
    - Opponents PER - 28.2
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 105.8 / 105.7
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 113.8 / 129

    Jordan Clarkson
    - PER - 10.6
    - Opponents PER - 9.7
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 102 / 106.7
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 103.4 / 126.7

    Robert Sacre
    - PER - 7.6
    - Opponents PER - 25.3
    - Offense Rating On/Off - 113.9 / 104.1
    - Defense Rating On/Off - 99.2 / 126.6

*Offense Rating - You want a higher number when you are on the court than off
*Defense Rating - You want a lower number when you are on the court than off

It's still very early and I have a feeling the PER/Opponent PER is skewed due to a minimal amount of stats to put in, it will take 15-20 more games before those reflect accurately.

The offense and defense rating is very telling so far. The starters absolutely stink on defense, just horrendous numbers.

    Individually
    - Boozer - Killing us offensively and defensively. Byron needs to start Davis and we need Kelly to come back healthy. Boozer is a detriment to the team.
    - Weasley - Not good for the "Defensive stopper" of the group, even though his opponents PER is low, he definitely doesn't pass the eye test defensively. We need Swaggy back.
    - Kobe - Numbers as expected, he doesn't play any defense, gambles, plays too many minutes and leaves people wide open.
    - Lin - His lack of aggression and balance on offense is showing, let's hope he figures it out.
    - Hill - Victim of a very weak defensive unit, he's had a solid season so far
    - Davis - Here is where I think the PER is skewed, no way opponents PER is 20.4. Anyway, he needs starters minutes as his offensive/defensive ratings are both positive and the eye test confirms this.
    - Ellington - See Davis. He needs more minutes, positive offensively and defensively, can definitely spell Kobe 5-6 minutes of rest extra if Byron wasn't deviating from the plan.
    - Price - Another skew in the PER, his defense has been pretty legit so far and it's reflected in the defensive rating
    - Clarkson - Offensively having some struggles early. He's a spot up shooter at this point in his career and there is nothing wrong with that as he has a very good shot. He's also very active defense. Should be getting burn over X and giving Kobe a break.
    - Sacre - Nice defensive rating

With the additions of Young/Kelly by the end of the month, it looks like we have a strong bench, let's hope Byron utilizes it more and gives the players that are producing more minutes. The numbers are more or less in line with what I have been seeing on the court.

More Davis/Ellington, less Boozer/Weasley, decrease Kobe's minutes, get back Young/Kelly.
