The odds don't really matter at this point. Might as well go for it. The biggest thing this summer for us is the coaching change. We have to nail that. Getting the draft pick would be an unexpected bonus.
And a free agent. We really need to sign someone good. Walton + H. Barnes would be a solid offseason with or without the pick. Walton + H. Barnes + getting Skal Labissiere would be amazing.
Not that I wouldn't mind Simmons, but don't we already have a 6'9-6'10, ball-handling, point forward, with no jumpshot in Randle? Labissiere seems like a decent prospect. Looks like Anthony Davis offensively.
Everyone keeps saying the odds are against us but didn't we go from the 4th to 2nd pick last year? Besides, the NBA owes us one for canceling the CP3 trade
Well, the odds don't change just because we had luck in the past. If I flip a coin and it lands on heads, the next time I flip a coin it isn't more likely to land on tails.
Yeah. Simmons can play sf anyway. He'd be a big sf, but he can certainly do it. The real question is if by season's end Skal is better than Simmons outright. Quite possible.
just saw a tweet that Simmons was 1 of 10 or something like that outside of 5' this year. Not sure that's small forward material lol.
Simmons is by far the most talented, but that doesn't always translate. Labisierre I just don't know enough about yet. When I watch him I don't see an NBA impact player. When I watch Simmons I see an absolute impact player. All he needs to do is gain confidence in his jumper and Simmons is a starter right now in the NBA. I'm not sure I see that out of Labisierre or Bender right now. Ingram and Brown would be decent additions too.
Any top 3 draft pick would be a bonus. If not at least we'll be done with protection on picks in the future. I just want a good off season where we get a coach that caters to our talent and a superstar signing after Kobe retires.... Also we need to package hibbert and Williams for demarcus plus picks if there's some drama in sac town
So we've officially become 76ers West? That's great for our precious brand and franchise moving forward, it's really worked out for them.
yeah, not in for the tank. too much uncertainty with top 3 protection only. I'd rather see the lakers try to make a trade between now and February for an impact player. it will probably have to be later, though. still, that may provide enough time to win some games and get some momentum going into the offseason, when a new coach and hopefully some more useful players arrive.
^^ Great post, realdeal, and you and I have come to the exact same conclusion. Tank is on. I think the FO is content to sell tickets this year for the last hurrah of Kobe and I do think they will pressure Byron to play Russell more as the season goes on like they he did with Clarkson last year. Byron still sucks though. I want a new coach next year.
It's unfortunate, but this is what I was pointing to last night, Weezy. Nothing else adds up when you try to make sense of it. They have thrown in the towel already. I hope we keep the pick, but regardless if they don't change coaches this summer I'm going to be upset. Byron is not doing a good job on any level except tanking itself.
Pincus was hinting at this almost a week ago... He was basically saying the only reason to keep Byron around is to tank, but we didn't understand what he was getting at. Turns out the Lakers are fine with Scott because he gives us the best of the bad chances we have to keep our pick. What a ringing endorsement.
