Here's DE's new breakdown on Jaylen Brown. He's probably my 3rd pick right now if he shows some growth and intangible leadership in workouts. Athletic, strong, fast, and has the makings of a catch-and-shoot jumper. He's a near perfect fit for us if he can find his stroke from outside. http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Jaylen-Brown-NBA-Draft-Scouting-Report-and-Video-Breakdown-5477
watching him almost all season, this analysis is basically spot on. Some great flashes and then some bad moments. The potential is definitely there though.
He's got tremendous athleticism and defensive potential. If he can hit a jumper, he's a perfect fit. I know he struggled in college, but he was better in high school. I think the form is there. Hopefully he impresses in workouts.
If we're going to use our pick at #3, then I'm with you. I take Brown. I think he can develop a 3-point shot and his build/athleticism is something you can't coach. But I have to say, the more I think about it, the more I think we should trade the pick (IF it falls to #3) for one of Philly's centers. They have 3 of them and they could use Dunn or Brown or Hield. My first choice is Noel. He's the perfect shot blocking compliment to Randle. But Brown is my choice too at #3 if we can't find a trade partner.
For THIS team Noel is the only one I have vague interest in, but I don't think he's big enough to play Center full time and I think we can get better value for the pick elsewhere.
I don't know. I think it was a few pages back that we looked at all the players that we MIGHT be able to get with that pick. It's not a great list. I think that Noel in a better environment could really thrive as a Whiteside-lite type player. And while he's not the biggest center in the world, in today's NBA, who is he really going to have trouble with? Marc Gasol? Drummond? I mean, there aren't a lot of hulking centers out there. I think Noel/Randle/Clarkson/Russell is a heck of a young core to go forward with. In a fast paced offense with Russell wheeling and dealing...Obviously getting Ingram or Simmons is a much better scenario as I think both of them have at star or even superstar potential. But after those two, the drop-off is really steep. Other teams know that as well. Honestly, Noel is a heck of a young, defensive center. When you consider the fact that he's still on his rookie deal and fits the age of our players, is there really a player that we can get at #3 that's a better fit? I doubt Philly would even make that trade if it weren't for the fact that they drafted 2 more center since then and they need to start building a roster.

Yeah I doubt Philly does it because let's face it: Embiid might never play an NBA game. They like Noel a lot over there. I like Noel, but he's a string bean and he'd struggle with a LOT of Centers full time. I don't think he could hold his own long-term against even the Mahinmis and the Biyombos of the world. He's too thin and not strong enough. Ideally he's a PF.
I would definitely do that Noel trade. If Philly gets the #1 they'd be set with Simmons/Okafor as their bigs and would still need a perimeter player. Noel would be the odd man out.
No Way. Granted I'm not the biggest Okafor fan, but if we're going to trade the pick I would think we can get another pick or something else more impactful that will help us down the line in positions we need more help with.
I think he misread those reports on Kobe's early workouts. Kobe was already DONE at 5:30 in the morning son. Gotta get up even earlier than that.

Can't do it now. I like Okafor a lot, I was obviously very excited about him before the draft, but he wouldn't fit with what we're trying to do now. With Luke we're going to go after a tall shot blocker who can rebound and pass a little (thus the Noah rumors).
I actually would want Noel more than Okafor. Okafor + Randle isn't really the ideal combination. I think the thought of it may have actually contributed to our decision to take Russell. Also, the #3 pick is enough. If they want Clarkson and the #3, then we take Jaylen Brown and fill in the sf slot.
