Hmmm. Not a fan of that attitude though. Nothing is guaranteed, why not go out there and show what you have? And what's this about him not going to the combine?
The combine, I don't mind as much, Towns and Okafor didn't go to the combine either. If it's true he gave %50 in college though, that's not a good sign at all to me. What does that say about him in contract years in the NBA, is his dad gonna give him the same advice? I dunno, IF that were true that's not a good look. He does seem to skip stuff though, panelist pointed out on ATH today that LSU declined to play in the NIT, Simmons declined to play in the Olympics, he sure is protecting his draft stock in every way possible.
Very good point. Like I said earlier I wish he was going to the combine because I want to see anything more of him we can if we get a top pick, but I guess he'll probably only be doing workouts for teams when the actual picks are slotted.
Such a tough thing with Simmons. IF(!) the 50% thing is true, you hate that attitude and it throws up huge red flags. On the other hand, if THAT was only 50% of his game...he's gonna be the next LeBron.
Haha. Exactly. But really more to the point I guess is, do you think the amazing games he had at LSU is the "real" him and the subpar ones were the "don't get injured, think of your draft stock" him? Because while he does have deficiencies, some of those games he put up, he was the best player in the country and it wasn't even close. And it always looked effortless. I'm drafting THAT guy 100% of the time. And he seems to be ambidextrous. You'd never know he was lefty the way he passes and finishes with the right. (Looking at you Julius)
While it sounds horrible on the surface, I can't say that I wouldn't do the same thing. The NBA is forcing these kids to be out of high school for one year. I mean, it seems like it should be illegal (technically it probably is), but somehow that is the case. I can't say I blame a guy who has a guaranteed 20 million on the table that doesn't want to go full steam ahead and chance an injury that could drop him down to the late teens. Simmons isn't who we should be upset with, but rather a dictatorship of a league that doesn't allow a full grown adult to work for them, regardless of their qualifications, because they are a year too young. I mean the dude can be drafted and sent to die in war, but he's too young to throw a ball at a basket?
yeah, I don't understand the age limit. yet another rule that protects teams from themselves. if simmons blows everyone away at workouts, that's enough for me. I'm not worried about anything I saw in college, other than the inability/unwillingness to shoot. we'll see if that was more of Anthony davis/KAT thing (I can do it; I just choose not to) or a randle issue (I can't do that, so I don't). I'm just really hoping for the organization to have a chance to make that evaluation.
Drafting a versatile player like Ben Simmons really intrigues me. Pick up Horford and we're really, really hard to cover. I think Luke can work with this five: PG-DAR SG- Clarkson SF- Simmons PF- Randle C- Horford That's a core I have no problem patiently watching grow. Within 3 years we're back in business for a long, long time.
His form might not be bad (hard to tell as his release is off camera a lot), but the results in that video at least, were terrible. Brick, brick, brick, brick...Also a very slow and calculated form, he looks like he's aiming and thinking, good shooters just shoot, they know where the hoop is, it's all about feel. He got in no rhythm at any point there. I'd love to get a top 2 pick and draft him (if we can't get Ingram), but the shot needs work. Him at SF, Randle at PF, nightmare shooting combo. They both also like to have the ball and drive in from the perimeter, only one ball to go around, especially considering JC and Russ like to do their share or dribbling as well.
I believe with a good shooting coach just like kawahi and draymond he and randle can be solid shooters, it's their intangibles that will be a mismatch to opposing teams
His shot needs work. His follow through goes left and the momentum of his jump is taking his feet forward but his upper body backwards. Elbow placement is a little off, release point needs to be more forward (unless he's going for more arc) and he doesn't fully extend his shooting arm. He does a combination of these throughout the video. How old is this video though? Reminds me of a D Fish rainbow shot.....without the follow through, extension, and correct release point to create that arc
