That's setting the bar pretty low, IMO. Prince was a solid pro for many years, but a #1 / #2 overall pick should be a perennial all star. Otherwise, they're a bust, even if they have a Prince-like career.
Why do/how can people watch college basketball you ask? That game was why.1 game, do or die, winner take all. Amazing.
I see a little bit of what they're looking at. A guy who can do a little bit of everything, makes the right plays, and has a very professional approach. I think Tayshaun would be a great floor for Ingram and I'm not sure I see him as your #1-#2 kind of guy. Maybe I'm underestimating him, but to me he looks a little Prince-ish. The type of guy who would fit perfectly here in LA because he won't demand the ball and will do his best to fit in and make the winning play. That's what I think I see when I see Ingram, but obviously workouts need to be held. I was honestly shocked to see Prince had never made an All-Star team. He's a great player and always seemed to tie together teams well. I don't disagree at all with what you're saying, but I still think Prince is the type of floor you're looking at with Ingram. I'm not sure I see a big time scorer in him.
i think I mentioned prince as a floor a few pages back. the body type is somewhat similar, as is the level of athleticism (ingram is a bit faster, I think, but neither is extremely quick or explosive). ingram's probably a better shooter at a similar stage, but other parts of the game (help d, handle, etc.) are similar.
Good comparison I never really thought of. If Russell turns out to be a legit franchise guy (possible) and Randle turns out to be a real good player, Ingram as Prince with a little more shooting is fine, even if they are a #1 or #2 pick. You'd like to get a player like that in the middle of the first round, but if you have the other players already, there can be worse things. What you don't want is an Anthony Bennett or Thabeet situation where it is essentially a complete waste.
Yeah you know if/when we strike out in FA with most of the big names, a guy like Prince is great for us moving forward. Sure, relative to his draft spot Tayshaun Prince at #1 or #2 would be disappointing, BUT you can only draft according to the players available. If you look at all the players and Prince is your best or second best option, then that's just what you'll have to get. I'd prefer if he was Kevin Durant, but hey if he's not then there's nothing we can do about it. All we can do is take the best player available. I also think Prince is more the floor of what you're getting with Ingram than the ceiling. Like you said though, Prince in his prime is actually a great fit. There was a 5 year stretch where Tayshaun averaged 14.1 points, 2.9 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 0.6 steals, 0.6 blocks, in35.8 minutes while shooting 46% overall and 35.7% from deep. This was when Prince was 24-28 years old. Then he had a couple injuries and never returned to form. Those aren't elite numbers. If Ingram can improve a bit on those numbers and averages maybe 15/5/5 with a steal while shooting 38% from deep or something like that... well I think that'd be a great fit with the rest of our young crew. Maybe not right away, but a year or two down when he's put some weight on his backside. Right now there's 7 guys who can do that in the NBA: LeBron, Durant, Harden, Curry, Westbrook, Tyreke Evans, and (most interestingly) Nicolas Batum. I'd hope for a bit more, but honestly I think that's what I expect from Ingram on a team where he's not the #1 option. If he's "the guy" I think he's probably an 18/7/4 guy with half a steal and half a block a game with a lower shooting percentage. Again, this is just based off the games I've seen in some college games which doesn't always translate. I'd love to see his workouts to get a feel for what kind of mentality he'll have at the next level.
i think ingram is likely to be better than prince, but if you look at the roster right now--given the very few "keepers"--a player like prince would be very welcome, indeed.
Just an awesome game to watch. Down to the wire, two amazing three pointers in a row to determine who takes all! Great stuff.
First I cried and then I laughed When I realized I cared about the draft A team undertalented and understaffed Led by a moron doling out the shaft
I didn't know where to put this but thought it was pretty cool: Hahah Kenny, we've all be on that end of it as fans. Charles acting like a little kid
We've done a lot of talking about the top pick, but we might not even keep that one. What about the one later in the draft? We have an early 2nd rounder this season as well, the 32nd pick. Some names around that area from DraftExpress: -DeAndre Bembry- 6'6" wing out of St. Joe's. Athletic, good court vision, can get to the rim and space the floor a bit. Struggles with any sort of consistency. Here are his pros from DE and here are his cons (from before the season). DE projects him at exactly 32nd. -Grayson Allen- Everyone's other favorite Duke player. He's just under 6'5" and definitely a guard. He's athletic, can shoot, and works hard. He's also collected the "dirty" tag. DE expects him to go 31st in the draft. Here are his pros and here are his cons (from before the season). - Brice Johnson- 6'9" PF that just lost to Villanova in the Championship game. He's athletic as you could ask for, good motor. @Weezy I believe is the one who likes this guy a lot. Here is a video matchup of him vs. Brandon Ingram.
I love Brice Johnson, all hustle, great around the rim, plays fired up, he's like another Larry Nance Jr. I don't think he goes 2nd round after the tournament he had though. Grayson Allen, meh, I hate Duke and I don't like his douchiness.
Fair point on Brice. DE still has him down at #33 on their mock, but he could jump up. Some names in the 20s that could fall: - Juan Hernangomez. 6'9" forward, fluid athlete. Talented offensively, but not much defensively. A lot of potential, but is his head straight? - Petr Cornelie. He's a 7 footer with great athleticism, good potential on both ends. On the other hand, he's very very thin and raw on both ends. Definitely a project. Might pull from the draft if his value slides though. - Caris Levert. 6'7" forward, very talented. He was initially slated as a mid-late 1st rounder but has slid for a year. Smart kid, hard worker, but injuries are a real concern. DE actually has him going in the 40s range. - Jake Layman- 6'9" forward. Interesting name. He's another guy that last year was slated as a 1st rounder, but he went back to school and just tanked his value. DE has him all the way down at 45th. - Gary Payton II and Melo Trimble- a couple shorter guards. Some talent, but a lot more heart. I'm not sure if they translate in the NBA, I'd need to see a workout.
Johnson reminds me a bit of brandan wright (maybe the uniform), but he's actually more skilled. don't know why he can't be a backup big in the nba.
