I haven't seen enough of him to make a determination, but I've heard some really good things about him from others who I respect a lot. I'll check him out.
I've seen Hield twice this season, and I like him. Can score in a variety of ways and has come through in big moments. He seems to thrive with pressure on the line.
Been saying this for a while. Not sure how we make both work. It depends. If he grew another inch sicne he got measured earlier in the year and he's 6'11", I don't see why not in small stretches. But over the course of the season, He'd get beat down banging inside all night, every night.
Yeah I agree, but I look around the league and there really aren't many impact guys that are over 610 in the nba anymore. I think ingram fits this laker team better, but I think simmons will have the better career if he doesn't get distracted with partying and kardashians.
thanks for posting this, yet another reason why even at #1 I think Ingram is our guy as of today IMO. Julius and Ben are just too similar and I know you draft on best overall and not need but the dip off of Ingram and Simmons is small if looking at today and potentially in the future which is when we're really going to know.
if the FO determines that simmons has greater upside, I think you make the pick regardless of fit. there's enough minutes to go around until one of them proves to be a star (or not).
Very good point. I think the workouts will decide things, same as they did with Russ. All of this assuming of course that we keep the pick.
We've got a long way to go, but I honestly think Ingram could be a better player AND a better fit. We'll see after the workouts though. The only thing I trust from this FO is to make the right draft pick if we keep it.
I don't trust them in free agency until they show they're gonna change their ridiculous strategy of just chasing stars we have no chance at getting and allowing numerous very solid NBA players who can help and fit the current team very well. Let's hope that changes this season.
Yeah. What great trade have they made since the Ariza deal? Howard and Nash were disasters. Hibbert and Lin? Clarkson I guess was a trade, but that was more of a scouting/drafting thing. And the free agency thing has been dumbfounding. Since we've had space, it's always been built around giving a geriatric Kobe help.
Howard/Nash is only a disaster in hindsight, they also had Paul taken away. Other than that we haven't really had a lot of talent available for trade for the most part.
Hindsight is 20/20. I think we were all on board with the trades at the time. I blame the 2 guys more than our front office (and I don't like Jimmy Boy). I give our front office credit on drafting and trades. I really question their ability to hire coaches and sign free agents. #PresentationIssues
ah, hindsight. nash was a steal at the time. unless people knew he'd break his leg immediately and never be able to play again, there's not a ton of room to talk. had he even just declined as players do at that age, there's no way the pick we're moving right now is a top 5. other than this pick, it didn't really cost that much. and the howard deal was actually great. he was better than Bynum, and they moved Bynum and a 1st. made perfect sense. again, nash doesn't break his leg and kobe doesn't tear an Achilles, howard is probably still here and the lakers are giving phx the 23rd pick in the draft right now. the lakers also made the chris paul trade in the time you're suggesting. which was a freaking home run. HOME RUN. not their fault the league decided to tie bricks to the franchise's feet and chuck them in the ocean. as for FA, they've made several smart signings, imo. they had absolutely nothing to offer the big names, but at least they didn't go throwing big money at unworthy players. if you think Aldridge didn't come to la because of a lack of analytics at the meeting, I've got a bridge to sell you. he went to SA because, for the same money, he could win 65 games without doing all the lifting. melo stayed in ny for more money. both took the lakers more seriously than Houston, a team that was winning and offering the same cash. so, in terms of picking up guys from the scrap heap, Brandon bass and lou Williams were really good value signings. the only FA I'm a bit pissed about is isaiah Thomas. I thought he was worth that 6 per at the time, and I was definitely right. he wanted to come here. lakers screwed that up. again, the only thing I fault the FO for is the absolutely atrocious coaching hires: brown, dantoni, scott. lots of better options on the table, and during that time, some of the assistants went on to be successful with other teams (Clifford and Snyder). just complete lack of creativity and foresight there. I'm really hoping they dramatically shift gears this summer in that regard.
anyway, back to the topic of the thread. getting a longer look at ingram tonight, and I like what I see. he needs to get stronger (or perhaps just craftier) with the ball around the hoop, but I think you're already looking at a floor of tayshaun prince, with a ceiling a notch below a Durant type. what immediately grabbed me was his work on d. he's moved his feet pretty well, used his wingspan by keeping his arms out and active, and made some good help reads in the time I've been watching. that's probably a combination of good coaching and good instincts. wish the lakers young guys showed a little more of that (though Russell does on occasion).
Ingram is definitely the real deal...and if everything falls into place, we'll be looking at either Ingram or Simmons this summer in the draft. If we fall to third though....trade that pick. But first or second pick, and you roll with either of those two, as I believe both can be future all stars in this league.
