yeah, just having another shooter on offense could help. and he can't be any worse defensively than boozer has been.
Honestly, if Ryan can come back, prove he's healthy, and be productive, I'd start him. Boozer isn't giving us anything we can't live without; in fact, one could argue he's a liability. Either way, first things first, Ryan needs to be back healthy and get back in game shape.
Agreed about West; although, Boozer is a close second, IMO. As far as Wes, though, Young will be back December and take some of time time at the SF spot. Ryan is much better suited at the 4, IMO, positionally. He'll do fine playing off of Kobe. Either way, he is probable for tomorrow's game, and that's good news. Young being back in another 3-4 weeks should assist even more, and as the season gets easier in terms of opponents we face, I think we'll see some improvement with this team and not only start being more competitive but winning some actual games.
Yeah, Boozer regressed from the preseason where he was doing pretty well. Dunno where's he's at now. I think the starting unit could use the floor spacing of Kelly.
I'm glad to hear that he's at least improving and could play tomorrow. We need all the help we can get.
If Wes goes to the pine, who's going to man the 3? Kelly at SF would be brutal on defense against athletic wings.
He going to be a bit rusty because he hasn't played a real game in a while and his shot may be a little flat from not being game ready. But it will be good to have him back. no doubt and hopefully he will bring some 3's
I think that Kelly is actually a potential 3 and D player at the PF spot. Bear with me. He's not a good individual defender, but he's smart - we don't need a bunch of lockdown defenders to be successful defensively. He's a player I think contributes to the IQ level on the court, and if he shows decent second year growth, I think he's going to be getting decent minutes. Like an early career Ryan Anderson.
That's true. I don't think Kelly's a bad defender, but he's a liability at SF. Wes has truly been amazingly bad this season, in every possible way.
I think Ryan falls into the category of Luke. He may not be athletically gifted, but defensively, he could probably be smart about defending guys even though the there is a physical mismatch. Luke in his 1 year hayday, was a pretty strong body.
Agreed. He should get minutes. He could be paired up with Davis and it Hill out there and provide a remedy for some of the spacing issues we have been having. Ryan doesn't operate in the painted area so when Lin and Kobe penetrate Ryan will benefit from the open looks he will be receiving. It will so benefit Kobe on the block. He'll have more space with less congestion the ability to operate with no congestion in the paint. I really believe that Ryan will fit in perfectly and his game on the offensive side will be seamless as e shakes the rust off ultimately making the game easier for both Kobe and Lin specifically.
Give Kelly all of Sacre's minutes right now. And then when he's back into shape give him all of Boozer's too. EDIT: Kelly and Davis can share Boozer's minutes.
Luke was one of the best trapping defenders I've seen. He was solid at help defense generally, but he was pretty awful as a 1 on 1 defender. So I guess I'm agreeing with you.
our savior has arrived Out on the floor warming up 2 hours before tip-off.@ryankelly34 returns to the lineup tonight. #GoLakers
If our roster was elite, this would be a solitary blip on the radar. At the moment this is thrilling news. Kelly can contribute.
