I think it really comes down to the last bit. According to Ramona Shelburne, Ainge demanded our Top 5 pick if/when we get it back. Well then why would he trade with Dallas when THAT pick is likely to be in the 20 range just like Houston's? Because Ainge didn't want to help out the Lakers. :D

They will. Carlisle is a great coach...they'll be fine.

Welp, Tyson and Dirk have to play 40+ mpg now. Lol.

It'll be interesting to see how Rondo fits into that team though. He won't be able to dominate the ball as much, but Carlisle is the type of coach to work with his players to enhance the players' strengths.

Yup...I heard that too. Screw Boston. It don't matter...we'll have to find another way of finding a PG.

I don't know. How do Rondo and Ellis fit together? I think in the short-term it'll be really rocky. Rondo is a different cat and could have a hard time fitting into that locker room. Long-term they project well, but short-term they look a little rough.

That's part of Dallas' thinking as well; they knew that and wanted to expedite this trade as fast as possible so they could get busy working out the kinks...

I'm glad Rondo is not coming this way. Although it was really tough to miss out on an almost always injured PG that can't shoot and is a worse FT shooter than Shaq.

That's well and good man, but what's the alternative now? The FA market is quickly drying and the Lakers seem intent on not adding smaller pieces in the rebuild process. Like others have been saying Dallas tried that at first and after striking out on Deron Williams, they moved in a different direction with Monta Ellis. We need to skip this summer's strikeouts and move on now. Trade Nash for Stephenson/2nd Rounder or something. Charlotte wants him out and nobody wants to take him. What's the worst that could happen if we trade for him? I'd take the chance at this point.

IF we get the pick back? That makes no sense. If we agreed to that, we'd simply do eveything we could to not get that pick back and then they don't get it. With Rondo here I don't think we would have been bottom 5 anymore, so I really don't get that.

I think realistically every one of these names should be crossed off. LeBron isn't going anywhere, Love will stay if they go deep in the playoffs, and Gasol and the Grizz look ready for a finals run if healthy. Why any of the players we want would leave their title contending teams to play with Kobe in his final season and then be part of a REAL rebuild, is beyond me.

Agreed. Go after Stephenson. Honestly, I'd start looking at Dragic as well; and even considering some 2nd-tier Free agents...that's what Dallas did when they went after Monta and Parsons; keep us competitive while building assets, developing players, and maybe a trade comes a long like it did for Dallas where you strike while the iron is hot...

By the way, we almost have to get somebody next year; Time Warner ratings are down 28%, we just had our first non-home sell-out very early in the season, etc...

That's why Rondo ends up being one of our last hopes and Ainge screwed us. Rondo was one of the only free agents on a bad team (and therefore more likely to leave his team). Now we're looking at hoping/praying LeBron and Love leave Cleveland? Or LaMarcus leaves Portland? That's very unlikely to happen.

Time to move on though. We've got to start talking young assets. Guys like Monroe and Stephenson and Dragic if we've got a shot at him. There was a slim chance you could convince Durant to leave Oklahoma with Rondo and presumably Kobe and Randle. There's even less likelihood now with little hope in Free Agency. It's time to move on to the younger crowd and embrace the rebuild properly. There's literally been conspiracy to keep the Lakers down and it worked. We need to rebuild.

I'm off the Monroe train, rather have Hill at his price than Monroe for max, but I'm in board with everything else you said. The home run in the offseason thing isn't happening anymore, time to move to a new way of operating. Never thought I'd want Cuban to be the owner of my team, ugh, but they're doing it the right way.

Monroe's value is absolutely tanking right now. He won't get the max anymore, no way. Not as a bench player on a terrible team. He's looking at 10 million a year or so tops at this point.

As for the Lakers, they would part only with the 2015 first-round pick that it controls from Houston, sources said. The Lakers wanted to include the expiring contract of Steve Nash, who is lost for the season. Those talks never gained great traction, sources said.

Boston has been consistently shopping forward Jeff Green, trying to acquire a package that includes a first-round draft pick, sources said. Boston has been unable to find that in return for Green, but it is expected the C Bags will keep working to find a deal for Green before the February trade deadline.

That's right, Mitch. Buy low, sell high, baby. As for Green, I would still go after him, but Ainge being the prick that he is might wants a prospect and a 1st for Green from us; I hate those C bags.
