Not bad for a "no experience rookie" GM whom everyone allegedly hates. At some point maybe we can at least drop the no experience rookie crap after the baptism under fire and experience gained just in this pressure cooker of a 2nd FA period while nationally labeled a backstabber and paying the Lakers tax to do business with media types mocking him erroneously.

Agreed, and with the contract that we gave out to role players in 2 years we'll have room again to go after another Max Level player if we want and maybe, maybe go after 2 Max Players depending on what Lebron does with his player option but the more I think about it I think he will take the player option with us and finish his 4 year deal with the Lakers. Either way, we have many guys on a 2 year deal so no more 1 year deals this build some continuity and also always have to keep our eyes on big names again in 2 years.

Rob needs some executive of the year votes next season, even if he doesn't win it. He's clearly shown he is competent at planning and executing the multiple scenarios that we had planned. The "Rob is a cancer and doesn't understand the CBA" crowd is looking pretty silly right now.

Well, If I'm not mistaken, we do still have an exemption to use & an open roster spot.. There wasn't a rush to fill that spot before the official AD trade since it wouldn't go against our Cap Space. At least that's my understanding...
I think they're in a perfect position to wait & see who the best player available is & complete the Roster.

Even more impressive is that Rob was able to get most of these guys we signed to wait while the Clips tried to f*** us. You guys do know that Ballmer totally tried to play us by getting Kawhi's camp to make us wait and telling us if we wanted Kawhi we needed to wait all the while they were planning to go to the Clips and trying to do as much damage to (face it) their biggest competitor. Kawhi, PG and the Clips have become massive Laker enemies for this. Gonna be a brutal rivalry.

R.Pelly is a CBA savant now?

When I get some time this week, this thread is going to get fun haha.

    I'll leave you a teaser:

AD with full trade kicker (unlocking extension talks instead of opt out this coming summer)

    And...

D.Green, Kcp, Rondo, Dudz and Daniels still sign their current deals, with Boogie, Cook and Caruso getting 500-700k haircuts, with McGee getting the room

    And...

Moe, Bonga, JJ, 2022 2nd rounder remain

All very much possible...but instead Dr. McDreamy took a butter knife into surgery.

Lessons learned on the Kawhi saga, have your own deadline, if someone hesitates, then move on. Although I'm pretty happy we did not Mozdung. But losing Seth Curry was a bit disappointing.

Yeah would have been nice but also he got a 4 year 32 mil deal. We're only giving 2 year deals in which case it would of had to be substantial to entice him.

He should be fired for getting rid of those 3 players alone.

That 2 more years might be the reason he signed with Dallas since he was rumored to be a priority for us

I'll wait for the results before I judge him.

Overall I'm still not confident he is the right guy for the job. He might fool a few fans to buy into his stories but ultimately, he struck out this off-season on big free agents...as expected.

The other signings are OK and addressed our shooting weakness but that was WELLLLLLL documented and a running joke in the media. So for him to grab a few shooters isn't any mystic managerial genius. He managed the cap space well which is a given for a friggin GM. I expect all and every of the 30 GMs to manage the cap in their sleep.

Jury is still out...the only certain thing about him is his shady personality.

I know Vas's reasoning for hating Rob stems largely from the Magic backstabbing fiasco, but I do agree with him in that he isn't some amazing GM. Klutch got us AD. AD and Lebron got us Boogie for sure and probably Danny Green as well. If Cousins was truly the backup plan all along, why did Rob sign KCP to 8 million for next season as well? If Boogie balls out for us, wouldn't we want to resign him? Now all we can offer is the MLE next season because KCP is eating up valuable cap space.

IMO, Rob may be adequate for the job of GM, but we need to bring in a top flight PBO that has full authority in all basketball manners. The Rambii need to be cut out, and above all, we need to start winning. It looks like we are lining up to be players in 2021 free agency. (Also known as the Giannis sweepstakes) If that's the ultimate goal, we have to have a perfect track record for the next two years and show nothing but stability to have a chance at him. AD, a Victory Lap Lebron and a slightly more developed Kuzma is a nice start to tempt Giannis, but he'd be leaving a Super-Max on the table to come here.

Of course the jury is still out on him, this will be the first year he alone makes the desicions without having Magic breathing down his neck. How will he "fool" fans? Just because Magic came on first take twice to save face because his feelings were hurt before prematurely leaving the lakers and then coming back to protect himself again when he was criticized?

The big free agents were Durant, Kyrie, Kwahi, Klay... All but Kwhai had already picked their destinations. My only real problem with Rob at this point, was he played the waiting game, which I was heavily against... He recovered fine, but I still believe we could've had some better talent for a longer period of time.

Just because Rob made some comments about Magic's absence and he got butt-hurt about it, and then calls him a backstabber doesn't make him a shady person. If anything, Rob took the high road and just did his job, didn't do any impromptu interviews to try and save face...

Magic brought me 5 rings... meanwhile was Pelz with Kobe shooting in the gym?

My loyalty is with those that really put in the work.

Still...I want Rob to do well and bring us back. But the fact remains, dude isn't great at negotiating contracts (looks like our room exception has been tapped into with Boogie's vet min of 2.7m actually being a 3.5m cap hit) and can't close deals with our true #1 targets (coaching: Lue and was leveraged by Monty; free agency: Kyrie said no, was Butler even approached?...and couldn't close on Kawhi while they too leveraged us).

You want to blame Magic for our stop gap contacts last year and giving Kcp that 12m deal? Go right ahead...but then he did bag Bron and form our Klutch alliance. Also we had cap space this summer to go after the remaining free agents available...so how does that happen without those stopgap deals last summer?

Meanwhile Pelz allowed Griff to get a whole lot in the AD deal and instead of replenishing our war chest by using our cap space to absorb deals, he used it all on available players remaining.

But folks forget, cLips had no cap after Kawhi/PG, so it was just us with 32m and Dallas with 22m. Free agents only had Dallas as leverage in getting a larger bag...so an about to be 32y/o Danny Green still got 15m from us? Nice negotiating, Rob.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I think the best scenario would have been to see how the buyout, RFA renouncement game would have gone and to look into absorbing contracts with our space to gain draft capital/cheap contracts we lost in the AD deal (see Miami forced to stretch waive Anderson cause they were hard capped).

When I get time, I want to get into a number of options that satisfied our bottomline as well as gained us future assets.

I hope from this experience with West fooled him will teach him a hard lesson and he can become an evil genius to one day give back to West on what he did to him.

While I’m not saying Rob is anywhere near West, he probably could of done a lot of things better even with the cap space (as I’m sure Vas will point out).

But at least KCP can be traded now if the right deal comes up, we went all in on Kawhi and he screwed us, dwindling the FA pool, but also potentially saving us from some toxic contracts out there.

Hopefully he will do something to get some credit from some people on this board someday.

It wont happen. We're a contender right now with two of the very best players on the team and for the most part everyone dismisses his involvement in that process. I doubt winning a title or two would change that even.

I'm going to be very happy when Rob gets no credit when we win two more championships. Give the credit to the ghost of Dr. Buss for all I care. Just give me those two Ships!
