Is Usiri still a d*** to the Lakers?
I think Rob should really think about Poetl and Bruce Brown move. I'd love to get both but means moving both Rui and Dlo contract wise and I'm not sure I would give up Rui unless you know for sure Vando is healthy and his form from last year is real

A Brown/Dlo swap makes sense for both teams - no teams take on a bad contract. Brown is another do it all jack of all trades role player who should look really good with AR and Knect.

Actually I think you can keep Rui if you make the trade when you can stack minimum contracts: Dlo/Vando/Cam/Wood/JHS etc for Poetl/Brown. I think you'd have to give up a first as the Raptors gave up one to get Poetl and his contract is a good one

    Ouch

so when they say four good players, are they excluding DLo or Rui from that list?

assuming top three has to be

    AD
    Lebron
    Reaves

ooh, he said two of them missed tonight’s game. So now DLO is below Rui. Fans really don’t like him, wow.

Laker fans are notorious for being brutal. Keep losing games and JJ is going to start catching heat too, regardless of the roster. That's just the way it goes.

Some folks think Rob is bulletproof with Jeanie...I don't. However I do believe that he has moves in mind upcoming.

Yeah. I know folks don't like the messengers but this is definitely how I feel about the guys I'm watching. I am hoping some of them break out of their slump (they have to at some point right?). But every night I've watched, I've only seen about 6 guys who looked like the moment wasn't too big for them. Maybe 7 if I squint.

Vando and Woods sound like they are 2 weeks away from being 2 weeks away and will maintain that status for most/all of the year like our players normally do.

I do expect a trade. Just a matter of when.

JJ is winning some credit and surpassing Rob in the popularity ladder. Rob may be the next piece to fall in our next failure. I think he's really pressured until the deadline.

I mean he can pass the Westbrick debacle off to Lebron and AD but the FA's signing and letting people go has been awful.

    Chose THT/Nunn over Caruso
Went with Vincent and Prince over Schroder Walker
Went Vincent and Max over Prince

    Others
Letting huff go and choosing castelon only to dump castelton
Drafting a bunch of PG's which suck over best player available and dumping SPJ

Rui trade was good, vet min signing have been good but what's weird is he getting killed in the MLE signings and picking the wrong prospects after they've been in the organizataion

some teams don't use the mle, and i'm starting to think that's generally wise. most of those signings suck, imo. it functions as an artificial max that 3rd tier players' agents demand, and you see the product.

i don't want to talk about caruso ever, but schroder/gabe wasn't a choice--schroder wanted to start and he got more per year. if he would have accepted a bench role (which he should), i think he'd be here, tbh. prince is better than walker.

i'm not ready to bury max yet, but it's weird that we were confident enough to put ourselves right at the second apron with his signing, and we're 8 games in with him looking at being nailed to the bench. not great.

the one consistent thread is not developing the young players, though. as pika said in the other thread, we just keep sending guys elsewhere who play better there, and this is especially true for younger guys. our eye for talent is good; then we do nothing for them, it seems.

I mean did the team not actually watch him play last year? I have posted several times that people got really fixated on a few Max highlights (defense against Mitchell, some dunks) but if you looked at the totality of his game play last year - he was legit awful and unplayable for long stretches. Just totally lost and the same issues this year very robotic/telegraphed movements on both offense and defense.

The Lakers have the ability to spot talent by presumingly watching film (Monk, Schroeder, Prince, even Cam/Wood are legit good value) but once they go beyond the obvious low risk/high reward vet min situations their talent evaluations seem off.

my point is that most mle signings end up being viewed as overpays. i think it's the market. maybe the new cba helps with this (because fewer and fewer teams have it).

max barely played last year, so no, they didn't get a great look at him in games. but they've had two years of practices. they gave up on jhs after one year and basically no real playing time! i don't know what they're seeing, but they've been oddly decisive in both cases.

This is what I was getting at though - he barely played not because he didn' get chances. He got chances and Ham had to pull him. It was unreal reading takes that Ham was responsible for not developing this guy because every time he got on the court he played himself off the court in a few minutes

(pretty much was he is doing this year)

the irwins of the world really just love pouncing at a moment's struggle. crickets when we were 3-0. seething crickets. we lost a bad one at detroit, and everything else has been expected so far. if anything, one of our "totally useless" deep bench vet min player options has been a bright spot.

yeah, we'll see. the front office bet on him, and it looks bad early. of course, if he's yet another guy that leaves here and looks great, we have some serious issues to discuss.

We weren’t a deep team to start the season and obviously this is what happens when your GM only has excuses when asked about it.
We definitely need both Gabe and Christie to play significantly better to compete.
I’m not going to complain about Hayes because he’s barely a second string player and needed to be replaced this summer by someone who is.
At least we will have Vando and Wood back soon to shore up the bench!

Lol c'mon. You count bringing Prince as a bad thing and then letting him go a bad thing too. Pick one lol
SPJ sucked here. Let's please stop rewriting history, he was JHS for everyone here.

But yeah, he needs to be held accountable. Bad decisions start to pile up. Caruso/THT is one of the worst decisions ever. Vincent gamble went terrible. Nunn too. The PO on the vet mins. Max re-signing may pay off, but it's not looking good. Bet on Ham was bad too. I still think we should have got Dejounte, he fit the team really well now and was a great complement to whoever comes after Bron.

I think he was world class dealing with Russ. I think he was great putting the title team together and the team the year after. I think we have been very good extracting value from 2nd round picks, Caruso, Reaves or THT were great developments. Max looks too but is not materializing yet. JJ looks like a great find and it took guts to do it.

There's been highs and lows. Which is not enough imo, considering AD and Bron have been on their prime and arguably the best duo in the league. One title and one WCF in 6 years is not enough.

All eyes are on him for the next deadline. There's no excuses

    this is logically incorrect. Just because A > B doesn't mean that B > C or to simplify A > B > C. Schroeder/Walker > Vincent/Prince > Vincent/Max.

what you note again is actually what I stated in different terms - Rob seems to hit on the very low risk/low likelihood asset management (very good with vet mins, second round picks) and then bomb with higher risk moves (MLE signings, renewals)

a lot of our renewals have been quite good. kcp, kuzma, rui, reaves, even dlo really signed for below his replacement value, tbh.

and gabe wasn't a gamble, imo. he has flopped here due to injury and then...whatever happened to him offensively during the time off. but he was a sought-after FA, and miami offered him close to the same money, according to him.

i think people should bring the gm evaluation skills to other teams and see whether we're that bad off. people miss on signings, trades, and draft picks. the great masai ujiri has built a last-place caliber team.

At the end of the day it is a competitive market so the final product should be a definite part of the evaluation. Right now he bet on Max/Vincent/JHS and that has totally bombed out. Basically cancels out AR whose play/contract are ludicrously valuable.

If Vando comes back and Cam plays like NBA cup Reddish, I think Rob should get his flower for sure (my personal opinion is that AR value/contract is a top 5 deal in the NBA) but as yourself noted the Lakers in terms of contracts and expectations setting certainly seemed to think those two would be big part of the rotation and right now both are two of the biggest problems
