yep. and we were *this close* to becoming the knicks once already. and jeanie and company aren't as bad as dolan, but we need to be more proactive in recruiting top executives and then need to get out of the way. i feel like jerry buss would have money-whipped masai ujuri into taking over as president of operations and just sort of booted rambis or at least milton'd him.

It's a bit sad that you see in a message board people with much more clear and efficient, yet simple, management behaviors than in the owners and managers of the greatest franchise in the NBA.

    Agree with everything.

I agree. Give Kurt and Linda a little more power and all of these problems probably will go away

eh, armchair managing is a bit like armchair coaching, but general principles of effective organizations aren't out of bounds.

like i laughed at people who said our management team didn't know the cap as well as fans and media. that's hogwash. i don't doubt that that's true of some (likely former) nba gms, but i generally don't think my grasp of technical nuance of other professions should be respected.

that said, no one in kurt rambis's position in an organization should be addressing someone down the chain and peripheral directly about their day to day work. that's mom and pop stuff.

Jeannie will be the last Buss to own the Lakers imo, shes done a lot of good but she clearly lacks that "it factor" Dr. Buss had

Dr. Buss didn't have the IT Factor, he WAS the IT Factor. And those guys don't usually pass it on after.

lol, there's a reason hollinger is a failed former gm.

anyway, i'm pretty sure everyone was asking for draft assets and not just cash.

Its pretty clear that teams were trying to fleece us at the trade deadline given the desperation around the team. I don't fault Rob and the front office for passing on bad deals and not giving up draft picks to "fix" moves they shouldn't have made to begin with.

Had Rob given up picks Hollinger and crew would still be lined up criticizing them for it. No pleasing that crowd.

and what does hollinger care about the lakers' non-cap finances? ain't his money. further, his own rejoinder demonstrates that they probably were going to pay the same regardless.

guy is just a d******. i can't believe he made a lucrative career out of sloppily applied 7th grade algebra performed on box scores.

If Jeanie doesn’t widen her search for people who weren’t former Lakers, she’s going to run the Franchise into the ground. It’s okay to make mistakes, but she needs to learn from them and course correct.
I think bringing in someone well respected around the League to fill the role that Magic left would be a great start.

It’s a problem, I think it’s partially why we have to give up so much in trades when you see other teams giving up less. Other GMs hate Rob and want to get revenge by screwing him over, teams have no incentive to help us out, so they try to gouge us. That’s one reason I think he needs to go, and someone outside of the “Laker family” needs to be hired, someone actually qualified.

I also think this is a major issue though. Who wants to come in and have to report to this moron and failed coach and his wife?

I think other teams want to gouge the Lakers because they ARE the Lakers. We are the only team that got “Sterned” for basketball reasons, also the whole hoopla other coaches and teams wanted the NBA to get involved in after the Gasol trade. All of that happened way before Rob and I think it will happen if he was replaced by someone else also.

Edit: I agree about the Rambii part though.

Maybe, but we have won trades in the past, Mitch won trades, even if small ones. Reports lately are that we are going to have to essentially lose every trade we are in in some way, whether that’s “extra” draft compensation or whatever. It was raised a concern when Rob was hired, that he was strongly disliked by the GMs around the league, and I think it’s proven to be true. He’s spoken about in such negative terms pretty openly by these anonymous sources and GMs all the time, and that’s not common, usually things are much more diplomatic. There is a Laker tax, but I think adding the Pelinka tax to that wasn’t smart, and we’d be wise to look elsewhere. Even just judged as a pure GM he hasn’t been great. He changed much of a title winning team, and then tore that team apart over-correcting for what largely was due to injury.

I can’t argue with this. Jeanie has a lot of decisions to make. At least she has Linda Rambis nearby as her trusted sounding board!

I think the above article is clearly bias.
Pelinka made a great job putting together the team that won us a chip. And the year after he made a very good trade for Schroder and great adds in the FA with Harrell and Gasol. It didn't pan out, but as a GM is the best you can get. Even the Russ trade, our package was very slim, KCP doesn't have much value, Harrell had a down year and it was mainly Kuz, who have just proven couldn't be the 3rd wheel in a contender.
Then, this year he was able to get Monk on a minimum and Nunn at the mini MLE, that's huge.

As a GM I think he has proved he's very good. Bold. Confident. A strategist. Very aware of the market and how to navigate.
I think his failures were moving away of our 2 bigs + AD that were our force defensively (I miss the block party every night so much) and rounding the roster this year, too much vets. LeBron had the same strategy in previous years, so maybe he forced Pelinka on that. I also hold him accountable for not stepping up to LeBron on the Russ trade, but we don't know what happen in reality. Still, it's his job to do better.

And then we cannot forget this trade deadline. He absolutely stepped up to LeBron. First GM to do that (with Riley I don't think LeBron had this power yet). That's huge and shows he cares about the franchise more than pleasing the biggest star (learned from the mistake made months before). He also didn't made a panic move like giving away picks to salvage the Russ situation or do a lateral move on this team by the deadline. That's huge too, remember the Muscala deal.

So, so far, I fully trust him and really believe he is a smart man who knows what it takes to put a great team together. And that with him we will always be active in the market looking to have the best team possible (not like Ainge). That's what you want from a GM.

Until proven wrong, he is for me the most trustable member of the triade (Pelinka, Vogel, LeBron/AD) for the long-term success of this franchise
