Trump's people are now suing to prevent a recount from Jill Stein. Lame.

The thing is, results of the election won't change, but at the same time, if you are so confident that you won in a "landslide", then what's the harm of going through a process that is totally in line with the law?

Oh for sure. I don't think either major political party knows the best way to make money while also reducing our national debt. Their interests just aren't aligned with those fiscal ends. I do like the idea of going easy on bigger corporations though as a way to stimulate growth. I know to many people it sounds counter-intuitive and no one likes to see rich people make money, but I think it'll work.

The deal announced today states that Carrier will keep 1,069 jobs in the US in exchange for $7 million , over 10 years, in tax breaks from Indiana. These jobs on average make about $30 an hour. Full time workers on average work 2,087 hours a year so that means 1,069 (2087)($30) gives you approximately $67 million dollars in income a year. The state tax rate in Indiana is 3.3% so $67 million (0.033) gives you about $2.2 million dollars in state income a year while the state is only giving Carrier a $700,000 tax break a year. Indiana is getting a 300% return, per year, on their investment. This doesn't take into account the extra flow of money into the economy and Carrier's plan to invest $16 million into the plant itself.

I need to see one of these breakdowns that accounts for the other half.

More than 1k workers that still are going to lose their jobs from Carrier, inspite of this deal to save the jobs of the other half.

How does Indiana make out after paying out state aid and loss of tax revenue for the rest of the workers that won't be retained by Carrier?

After that, was it still a good deal, or did Carrier just win this one?

    Unfortunately that's Globalization at work.

I understand there needs to be jobs that need to be kept here, but how does a business keep costs down to turn a profit without raising the price of the product or sacrificing quality?

When you have skilled workers/laborers who are willing to work at a fraction of the price of Americans, how do you not take that into account as a business owner?

It's a conundrum that needs to be solved, but at the moment, it's how the world turns for businesses.

Just quoting from a Federal Spending website describe the source of the Nation's Debt:
    https://www.nationalpriorities.org/budget-basics/federal-budget-101/spending/
It's these tax breaks that companies like Carrier/United Technologies get that dip into the National Debt.

Yes, it can influence a few jobs to stay and increase spending and the GDP, but what's to stop any company from demanding a tax break just like Carrier's deal? The more deals of these types arise, the debt with spiral into oblivion such that happened to Reagan.

The state of Indiana is giving the tax break, not the federal government. Indiana will undoubtedly reap the state taxes received from the income earned by 1000+ employees and the federal government will receive the federal taxes. Indiana will also benefit from the $ spent in local economy.

The alternative is 1000 unemployed and living off the government.

Speak English man! lol. So as far for the Indiana economy goes, does this help them? If so, it's a win for Trump....

Jill Stein dropped recount effort in Pennsylvania. might as well stop the other two, because Hillary can't win without all three states. Waste of money.

Was he ignorant of The One China diplomatic relations policy, or just figures screw it .... new sheriff in town, or has some plan for seriously tweaking China by accepting a congratulatory phone call from the leader of Taiwan? While at the same time being in juvenile fight with SNL or firing back on Twitter to whomever has dissed him that day. Hate Hillary but The Donald as President scares the hell out of me. Hey at least Putin likes him and they have the most nukes aimed at us.

Obama sold over a billion worth of military equipment to Taiwan. Trump accepted a congratulatory phone call from the president of Taiwan.

    The hypocrisy is thick.

Not mine. I confess to not even knowing of this One China diplomatic relations situation. Was listening while driving yesterday to KFI's Bill Handle show with Bryan Suits on for an hour of Military Monday. Suits has his own show, you probably know of him John. Yeah so a billion in equipment probably means we don't care so much about China's policy in that regard.

I find it disparaging when the president elect is focused more on a satirical tv sketch show than actual issues at hand.

    What issue is he ignoring?

As President elect, his job is to gather his administration and garner as much information as possible before stepping into the hot seat.

Well, instead of getting into twitter fights with Alec Baldwin and media outlets, maybe send out a supportive tweet to those affected in the Oakland disaster?

Simple things like that. This is our future president sitting on twitter fighting over nonsense. And if that's any precursor to anything, imagine when he actually has executive power.
