anyone have thoughts on North and South Korea talking / shaking hands? South Korea says Trump was key to the talks happening (I don't know to what extent).

If he is the main person and North Korea gives up nukes (both very big Ifs), he's due for a Noble Peace Prize. I know he'd never get it, but would be more than worthy. Obama got one for giving a neat speech while bombing other countries every day of his 8 years in office.

North Korea had agreed to promises before when Clinton was president. I wouldn't take much stock in what they say.

I don’t believe a thing coming out of North Korea. I think they think we’re all stupid because our representative is a caricature of American stereotypes. I’m waiting for Kim Jong-un to jump out from behind a giant curtain at any moment as it slides back to reveal a pile of armed nukes ready to go while yelling

Trump went after Big Pharma today. One of the main things he is trying to do is lower the time generic brands and competing brands must wait until they can compete with new meds. I could be wrong, but I think right now they have to wait 6 months. Rx meds are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, so I'm happy to see him go after them. I'd like to see us be able to get Rx from other countries, but I wonder about the quality. Maybe the FDA can approve 10 or 20 countries that we can negotiate with to lower prices.

I use a rescue inhaler for asthma. Here, on my plan the unit costs $40 and is only available by prescription. In Kenya, the exact same unit is available at pharmacies without a prescription for $3.

I think the exclusivity they have is more like 7 years.

I just looked it up, and it’s 20 years!!!!

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_drug

It’s very expensive to develop a drug and bring it to market, so that might make sense except for that you know they are gouging on price anyways

Not going to lie. I'm ok with the 20 year thing. Like Sirron said, it takes a lot of money and research to make these drugs. Yes, they overcharge, but if you created something and 6 months later anyone else could make it and sell the exact same thing, that'd suck.

But hey, without the pharmaceutical industry, there’d be less women making $100k+ a year. Pros and cons.

Meek Mill will no longer be attending a White House summit on prison reform on Friday (May 18), according to TMZ.

Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks at the summit, and Meek felt that appearing alongside the president could distract from his message of bringing positive change to the criminal justice system.

Meek provided a statement to TMZ to explained his change of heart.

“I was originally scheduled to be part of a panel on Prison Reform at the White House to help shed light on the issues within the system. Unfortunately, the focus turned to the President and Myself which concerned me that it might take away from creating a positive result from today’s discussions. As a result, I decided not to attend so that the focus would be solely on fixing our prison system. Most importantIy I remain fully committed to improving our criminal justice system.”

TMZ also reports the decision came after JAY-Z called his Roc Nation artist to discourage him from the visit.

Meek also reportedly got calls from other “high-profile African-Americans” who advised him against it.

I haven't posted in this thread in a while, but tonight I had to break over. Trump would literally reverse any legislation passed by Obama, even if said legislation is common sense, such as hunting laws in Alaska. They are detailed in the following articles:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...a-rules-bear-hunting-alaska-article-1.4002080

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entr...ior-proposed-rule_us_5b032131e4b0a046186ecabe

As a sportsman, this is downright insulting. I understand hunting has its fair share of critics, but it's been part of our culture since Native Americans settled this land. On top of that, the majority of hunters are responsible and take conservation seriously. Although many of my fellow sportsmen and sportswomen voted for Trump due to gun laws, which in my opinion was a very shortsighted perspective, reversing these laws does nothing but belittle hunting. It could even be argued that this makes a mockery of the sport.

For any progress Trump makes with the economy or anything else, it's petty stuff like this that fuels his critics. One step forward, two steps back...

Trump pardoned former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson today.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a pardon for the late boxer Jack Johnson, an African-American convicted a century ago for the crime of taking a woman across state lines, saying the move corrected a wrong in American history.

The heavyweight champion was arrested in 1912 with Lucille Cameron, a white woman who would later become his wife, for violating the Mann Act, a law that had passed two years earlier in response to a morality campaign.
