We’ll, the PBL does have quite a few foreigners in it. But didn’t the Philippines win the Asian games in bball? I think athleticism is there, but perhaps not the stature
PBA. Yeah a lot of naturalized guys stealing jobs from the locals. I can’t watch it now, especially after watching the NBA, it’s like slow motion. I loved watching in the 80s where there were only like 3 naturalized players from the US
I haven't watched a full game yet. Just not enough time, and even the Lakers were barely watchable the last couple of years until after this year's trade deadline. But all that being said, if a Mugsy Bogues can make a career in the NBA, there must be a 6' guy out there that breaks the mold that can ball. But if you don't grow up playing the same level of competition, it's a disadvantage for sure.
Nah the quickest guards here would still be one of the slowest in the NBA. There are levels to NBA skills and we have not yet reach it.
There is no AAU circuit or highest level college ball yet, but the enthusiasm for the sport is off the charts. If the best the Philippines produces is guys like Spo, for now, that's still awesome.
Yeah Spo embraces his maternal heritage more than his Dutch side but he wasn’t born in the Philippines. We can only boast of World’s best boxers or pool players at certain point but not basketball
Phil is the most important and irreplaceable coach we have. Lock him up with a lifetime contract. As good as our scouts are we will always have a stable full of hard-working talented players. We need to have the best coach available to give that talent the best chance to succeed. Between Handy and our scouts, the ceiling setters are going to need to hire a construction company to keep rebuilding all their ridiculously low ceilings that keep getting smashed.
Handy is my third favorite Lakers assistant coach of all time: Tex Winter Bill Bertka Phil Handy v v v v v v v v v v v v v Kurt Rambis
Someone’s going to come calling one day to take a flyer on him for a head coaching gig. It was rumored he was annoyed not being considered this time. But is that what he really wants, which would mean a lot less time for the teaching he always says he loves? Just give him enough money always to keep him here.
Ugh the difference in Rui and Vando’s shooting mechanics Rui looks so smooth and natural while Vando looks like it’s a struggle. I assume because he’s trying to change his shot so he has to think about it every time, but still… it’s rough. Save us Phil… you’re our only hope
i honestly think vando should ditch the 3 altogether. work on finishing in the paint and making dump offs on short rolls and drives. he'll never be a good enough shooter to change the way defenses play him, imo. put pressure on them with passing (like draymond) and finishing. and offensive boards. not to beat a dead horse, but watch rodman film. go all out on defense, pick your spots on offense very carefully.
