I found Shaq much less maddening than Pau. Not able to agree with you on that one at all.

What an incredible player, an even more incredible person. I still remember what I was doing when the trade went down, I'm sure most of you guys do too. His impact was immediate, his chemistry with Kobe was amazing. We don't get those 2 championships without him. Congrats Pau, welcome to rafters.

Really? Just the opposite for me. Pau came to us from Memphis as an incredibly smart and skilled player that had a rep for shrinking in the playoffs. He grew up and toughened up here. I feel like Pau gave us everything he had. Sure he struggled in that last series against the Mavs but that was the tail end of a back to back run. And it just seemed like Dirk's year that year anyway.

Shaq on the other hand... IMO, that Shaq and Kobe pairing should have finished with 5-6 championships, and I lay that mostly at his giant feet.

Phil Jackson never had to smack Shaq in the chest to get his balls to drop though.

yes he showed up late and fat, and couldn’t shoot free throws, but you couldn’t question the heart like you could with Pau.

That year was strange with Pau. I could tell something was wrong even early on in the season - actually even pre-season. Phil was on record intimating that something was up with Pau/his family but didn't disclose it. I don't know what happened there. But Pau before that year was such a perfect addition for us and showed plenty of heart in beating the C Bags as well as Orlando.

I think Shannon brown was banging his wife rumor around that time, LO and Pau checked out while kobe was playing on one leg, mavs were hungry and clicking also.

Rumor? There’s a tape and I have a copy. I thought all Laker fans did for some reason.

pau was his usual self during the 2010-11 season. it was once the playoffs began that he just folded. there was the whole shannon thing as well as rumors that he and kobe weren't getting along. he was clearly going through something with his partner and it just got to him mentally, then the shannon rumor was the nail in the coffin

it was hard to not get emotional watching his number raised to the rafters alongside kobe's. it's interesting when you think about how pau was kobe's favorite teammate considering how kobe operated and how pau had the "soft" label stuck to him for years. but pau came to LA in kobe's most desperate time and he embraced the challenge to finally shed that soft label. i remember watching this and thinking pau has had enough of that "soft" s*** and demanded the respect he deserved

his performance in game 7 in 2010 just further proved he wasn't pau gasoft anymore. i wish things had ended better for him in LA, but i was glad when he left not for the team, but because pau deserved better than to play on a crap team where he was the subject of trade rumors every year. grateful that we got to witness such a great player and an even better human being play for the lakers

    I called him Snaq

I just never questioned his toughness. That was a common theme for Gasol way too often.

We needed a Ron Ron type to come flying in with a well timed elbow after this Busch League cheap shot!
    Man Ron was fun!

    Congrats Pau!!!

It’s always the greatest life achievement to put on a Laker jersey, but to win multiple rings and have your jersey up in the rafters… That is just beyond incredible.

    Well-deserved!!!

Artest was just the best. I love that guy. Or should I say Metta! He'll always be one of my all time favorite Lakers.
