It's pretty widely known that Gay is unhappy in Sacramento. He's a dump candidate this summer when the Kings try to figure out exactly what the hell they're doing.

I'm expecting us to strike out on most FAs this summer and when we do a guy like Gay could be somewhat interesting as a salary dump for us. Outside of that? I'm not all that interested.

I was surprised to see last night that for the season Rudy Gay is shooting 47% from the field. I don't have the stats in front of me but that might be a career high.

He's always had the reputation of a reckless shooter

He's shooting 47.2% from the field this season which would be his career high. His previous career high was 47.1% back in 2010-2011.

That is shocking that Gay is shooting such a high % this year. I definitely wouldn't mind getting him this summer if the Kings decide to salary dump him. If we strike out on everyone, it's not a bad consolation. He would be a good veteran presence for the youngins, not to mention he's a legit 2-way SF on a reasonable deal.

Haven't watched Gay much this year. In the past, his go to shot has been contested mid-range jumpers, so he's never been that efficient overall...low assist and low ft rate too.

Anyone paid attention to his game this year?

I haven't been watching him much, no. Some numbers on him though:

His most common shot is a dunk/layup where he's shooing 64.7% on 221 shots.
He has taken more shots from 10 feet in (426) than from 10 feet and out (391).
He takes more jump shots than any other shot (555) and he has made only 40.2% of them.
Of the jumpers he takes from 10 feet out, he takes mostly mid-range shots (216) compared to threes (175).
He is shooting 35.4% from deep (very average shooter).
He is assisted at very high percentages on dunks/layups (67.8%) and threes (79%).
He is assisted on just over half of his shots in general (58%) which is probably leading to his higher FG percentage.

I wouldn't consider Gay a great locker room presence, but not a bad one either. I know that he once had a reputation for being a clutch guy although he's not exactly known as a winner. I think he'd make a decent dump candidate though if we could get him for cheap. The Kings are a fantastic **** show.

rudy gay in a salary dump is the sort of thing i'm expecting. and that's not too bad, either. fills a need (starting sf), should fit in with the important core players (read: can shoot, doesn't need to dominate the ball), and is appropriately sized for his position.

Rudy Gay will be 30 years old next year...and at $13.3M, with the CBA skyrocketing, he's the kind of player you wouldn't mind having. He's probably got exactly 2 years of decent ball left in him and at the money he's making, it's decent value. Which begs the question of why Sacramento would dump him in the first place? It's not like they have a replacement for him at that position. Maybe they draft an SF this year? Who knows. I mean unless they are gonna put Mclemore at the 3 going forward? Or Bellinelli full time at the 3? I have no idea. The Kings definitely are a S-show.

Gay has two seasons left though after this season. I don't mind him for this upcoming season since I don't think we get much, but what about the next offseason? By that time we'll have a pretty good idea of whether or not Russell and Randle are going to be special, and if they are special, we'll need every cent of cap space to throw at a couple guys. One of those guys, in my opinion, will be Durant again. I am 70% certain he will sign a one and one with OKC since the cap is expected to go up to 110 million the next offseason AND he enters the next tier of max deals. That makes his max roughly 34 million as opposed to the annual allowed raise from the 25 million max deal he would sign this offseason.

We are def have a hole at SF next year with Kobe gone and Metta for sure not going to be brought back. Been talk of making Nance a SF too but unless he gets a shot that ain't happening. He'd be an awesome SF though if he could develop even a fairly reliable 3. Maybe 30k shots or so this off season from the perimeter with a shooting coach might do it.

Seems the most likely scenario to me as well not only because of the cap which is a great reason alone but I think OKC deserves another year to see what they can do this offseason and Westbrook will be a FA in 2017 as well in case they want to bail together. Also gives him another year to observe the NBA climate, I don't feel there are many obvious teams for KD this summer (assuming he doesn't turn into Lebron and hop on the GSW wagon, which I cannot believe he would) but there is talk of San Antonio making the room for him and Durant, Aldridge & Leonard will keep Pop's interest for several years. Ultimately though, resigning another year works best for our chances at signing him.

There's a pretty solid group of SF's available this summer, but Rudy wouldn't be a bad fall back plan at all. Especially if we can get assets for eating the salary. I'd prefer Batum or Barnes, but not by much. I'd definitely take Rudy over gambling on Parsons being healthy.

Yeah I would take Rudy Gay and a first round pick if Sacramento wants to salary dump. Worked out well for us when we got Lin...there might be other teams like GS willing to salary dump too in order to get KD.

I'm holding out a faint hope that they do that and we end up with Barnes as a result. I don't see them gutting the team to get to Durant, that seems incredibly foolish, but I'd like to see them try to. I'll take Barnes off their hands for them.

Looking over the schedules for PHX and Brooklyn along with ours I really think we have the 2nd worst record locked up. Even if we beat PHX at their place on our 2nd night of a back to back the 4 game difference would be plenty.

Kelly's debacle last game really helped in a big way.

Oh. I think we're definitely safe now. That loss the other night was massive. Even if the rooks play out of their minds, Hibbert and MWP playing major minutes wouldn't allow us to win 5 of our next 13. And the rooks aren't going to play like veterans all of a sudden. We're safe. It's all about the ping pong balls now.
