I want Lou playing PG as little as possible. He's a natural scorer and we should put him in position for that. Hopefully Huertas can run the offense well enough to run point with the second unit

Yeah insert Clarkson instead of Lou and we're talking! Need a real PG in there.

    Optimistic game notes:
    1st Quarter-
    - Nick Young played a tremendous defensively and offensively. Lead the break, played good defense on Derozan. I loved it.
    - Upshaw was trying to do too much offensively and wasn't active enough defensively but he still showed some good flashes.
    - Larry Nance Jr. was active although a little too conservative. I missed some of his dynamic plays from Summer League.
    - The rest of the starters looked solid.
    2nd Quarter-
    - Upshaw settled down and made a couple of great plays defensively and offensively.
    - Activity is there, but a lot of the young guys are still not rotating or boxing out.
    - Randle's fade in the lane is beautiful, but he really needs to take those open 15-18 footers.
    - I've seen absolutely zero evidence of "ball-stopper" Kobe. He's playing completely within the team concept and letting the young guys grow.
    - Whatever shoes Hibbert was wearing look like gladiator style slippers.
    - Robert Upshaw has some crazy eyes. He and Anthony Brown should start a club.
    3rd Quarter-
    I fell asleep!

Optimism: The trio of Clarkson, Randle, and Russell will bring enough impact to this team and show enough flash to land a free agent or 2 next season!

Definitely solid building blocks. And with a go with the flow gracefully aging Kobe and other role playing vets, this has the opportunity to be a nice destination.

If we had better coaching. I do hope that if we keep Byron that we continue to supplement his weaknesses with additional talent. He has the guys playing hard even if not that organized. He's probably been able to rely too much on HOF type of PG talent to really have to coach team offense. He also played with Magic, so does the guy even know any better?

Optimism..... This is a way more physical, talented, professional, and fun to watch team than we've had in the past 3 years. Come December we will really know what we got, Playoffs? I don't know about that.... .500 record Pretty sure about that.

Agreed. Solid building blocks with 2 out of the 3 on cost controlled contracts for the foreseeable future.

We can't keep recycling coaches. We need to keep Byron through this year and possibly next; if you move him next year, you better ensure it is a superstar head coach. For instance, Rick Carlisle.

^^ Agreed. Byron is here this year, period. They want to see what he can do with an improved, although young roster. From there I think we have to see who we get in free agency and what he wants. If we get Durant I can see them maybe rolling with Byron for the first year but then possibly I could see them going after Ollie. Or maybe Carlisle. Or maybe Thibs if he's still available although that's unlikely.

Then again, the Zenmaster had Jordan and Pippen and O'Neal and Bryant with Pau Gasol and prime Lamar Odom mixed in with all his championships. Pretty easy to be smug when you're good enough (to his credit) as a leader to keep all that talent in check and focussed toward a championship.

Yeah. Luke is another option. Messina is another good option. Just projecting, though. For now, I love all the pieces we have and the way they complement each other .

The overly optimistic guy in me is saying "hell yeah playoffs!" But the realistic guy in me is agreeing with you. Hey if we're in the running for that 8th spot, I'll consider this season a success.

There is enough flashes there to be positive about how this crew will fare on the floor. It is still fits and starts but it will take time for this group to gel. Maybe a third of the season perhaps... Clarkson has been rock solid. I like how Young is engaged in the games so far. Hibbert is doing what he is supposed to do.

Now if we can only win a damn game even if it is just preseason [eye roll].
