Pelinka said something in the ESPN article from today that got me pumped. He was being asked about getting the pick or not. And his response if they don't get it was "we'll find a way". Dr Buss use to say that when the NBA would continue to create every CBA to combat the Lakers. Pelinka is the gem in all of this. Magic is great, the fact that Jim is gone is great but Pelinka will be the make or break in this. If he brings the Lakers back, it will be epic.

I liked that solving a rubix cube analogy Rob gave during his exit interview to describe how there many ways you can solve/create a championship team. It's not like if we don't keep this pick we can't become a championship caliber team in the future.

Well Rubix cube's are actually a simple formula. :D

But I definitely liked the analogy.

And finally, it's Rubik's Cube, named after its creator, Erno Rubik.

My optimism is based on my opinion that for the first time in awhile, we have the players to have an exciting season whether we pick up anyone or not. The biggest pick up we need is an assistant to really lay down a good defensive scheme. The will to be a good defensive team and natural player development should put us at least in playoff talk.

I know Rob is confident we can make moves without our top 3 pick, but it becomes MUCH harder.

I've posted this before, but here it goes again.

-Trade Top3 pick + 1(or2) Young Core for Paul George or Butler.
-Trade Hou 1st + 1(or2) Young Core for a Veteran Impact Player
-Create cap space to sign Impact Free Agent

This instantly adds 3 solid players to our roster & we retain half of our core.
And by young core, I honestly view Russell, Randle, Ingram, Clarkson, Zubak, Nance & Black all as very attractive & tradable assets. I'm not attached to any of them.. I'd love to keep BI, but no one is untouchable IMO.

I think that the Houston and two young core dudes can lands us George. Their leverage isn't great. JC, JR, and the HOU for George.
I suggested using the cap space to add Ilyasova.
I suggested the pick and Mozgov to land a re-signed Noel.

It's adding a star, two solid starters while shedding one awful contract, losing only two of that core.

That's a solid gameplan as well.. The common thread being that, keeping our top3 pick gives us multiple options to dramatically upgrade the Team immediately, & losing it makes it MUCH harder.

i'm an ilyasova fan (though i fear the deng regression on his next--and what is likely last--contract), and i would love to get george for that package (think indy has more leverage than that).

the top 3/moz for noel...that's a weird one for both teams, really. i could see better fits for each, if that makes sense.

It makes sense, but the thought process is that we're trying to make the No. 3 something useful now and shed either Moz or Deng.

    If Dirk returns, they'll have:
    Curry/Brea/Harris
    Matthews
    Barnes
    Dirk
    Powell/Mejri
They could add an adequate C and another young talent, possibly a starting PF for when Dirk hangs 'em up.

I think Noel is going to be a very good Center in the league. He's at 10/8 in his career, blocks shots, steals, and even hands out assists at a decent rate. He's become a better and better shooter each season, too. He'll be 23 next year. Noel/Zubac is a great problem to have.

The only thing I would rather do with the top 3 pick is move Deng in a similar move, but then you're trading a SF with the pick, and I think a position for position switch is easier than sending Deng for another position.

Orlando apparently WANTED Deng before the GM ouster. Does anyone on their team work for a S&T? Not really. And I don't really want Biyombo at 17m for the high pick. That's giving up too much.
