    James Harden does on defense.

Scott can preach D all he wants but as long as our backcourt starters are a 40 and 36 year old, we will be a terrible defensive team. They just can't keep up.

Wes just doesn't look like he has the proper mental make up to excel at this league. He has all the raw tools and then some to be special but he has no game and he just looks like he's loligagging out there. He just doesn't seem to care about improving. Anytime he makes a bone headed play, he just smiles.

Sadly I'm concerned that you are correct. This is his time to shine and really show he belongs here by focusing on a very simple goal. Play lock down defense. Like you said, he has all the physical tools - size, length, speed, hops. He's not the strongest guy in the world but doesn't need to be at the 3. He just does not seem to have the drive and the smarts - the head and the heart. And that's more important than the physique and abilities. He's soft in those two areas and he's going to have to do a lot better than what he's shown so far. If he doesn't he'll end up on the pine once we have more able bodies around.

His offense has never been great, but I'm not concerned about that. He needs to set himself apart on the other end and so far I haven't seen that at all.

Yup. He doesn't think his way through a game but just reacts. And you can't do that. He lacks intelligence and desire, two huge holes. And that's something that's hard to teach, especially the latter. It's just a shame a guy blessed with this much natural talent can't maximize his talents.

You see him make bone headed plays regularly. Some not as obvious as the others. Like last game, he was running down court to try to block an opponent from scoring on a fast break. He was more athletic and longer than the guy he was trying to block and might've had a chance to make a play on the ball had he come at the right angle but he took the wrong angle and got a dumb foul. Other times, he just fumbles the ball or isn't aware of situations. It's these little things that add up. So far, it doesn't look like Scott has lit a fire under him. Seems like the same ole' Wes. Hopefully, that will change.

^^ I really hope so, too. It's tough to see when he has such obvious ability. We'll see.

I really hate our starting lineup, especially defensively.

Nash, Kobe, and Boozer couldn't make thibs look good. I like Hill but he just seems to lack the length to be any type of deterrent. Wes... see above posts. you guys are spot on.

LOLOL. It's a horrible starting 5. I don't care if it's too early in the preseason or not. Screw that. Nash needs to be benched, period. Wes is just is simply put a bust. Boozer couldn't play defense if his life depended on it. Eventually, though, the Boozer problem will take care of itself when Randle develops hopefully sooner rather than later; and Nash will hurt himself.

I'm hoping at least Xavier can come back and take that spot from Wes. Byron also needs to suck it up and bench Nash. Even when healthy and playing his MVP level, he was a defensive liability. Now, it's an older, injury plagued Nash. Not going to work.

    Ideally, I'd start Lin/Kobe/Xavier/Boozer/Hill.

A bench (with Young back) of Nash (Price)/Ellington/Young/Randle/Davis actually works as well. At least Davis has feet quick enough to recover for Nash, and he could work the pick and roll well with Nash as well.

I'd run that 10, Clarkson is third string 1-2, Wes the third string 3, Sacre the third string 5.

[IMG] [IMG] I would have loved to have seen Clarkson healthy, with nearly 2 more weeks and a couple more games and more Kobe and Byron under his belt..... get some one on one with Dante Exum tonight against the Jazz. Dang it all to heck! [IMG]

Blame pie of why we are not just bad, but flat out embarrassing these past few games?

40% trying to build chemistry and learn a brand new offense and defense
    40% injuries
20% we just don't have much talent

A team which doesn't shoot 3s is very easy to defend .

We didn't attempt one single corner three against Utah .

Looks like Scott plan is to do anti-MDA for the sake of it but it's just plain stupid in today's game .

Our offense looks so bad and our defense still isn't on the same page. Byron needs to move quicker through the play book and these players need to work harder to get it.

The defensive rotations just aren't there. It'll help when we get some of our players back. Lin especially will make a difference.
