It's a young team. Young teams get better so I disagree there is no improvement in sight. They've played good defense in stretches just hasn't been consistent. Yes this team would likely get swept in the playoffs, but where we've been the last few seasons give me that any day of the week for this season.

Young players missing games whereas everybody on the team is playing under 30 minutes a game.

I know s*** happened and every injury is not minutes and game related but it's frustrating ... especially for DAR who has a very perimeter oriented game and isn't a physical/contact drawer type of player

That was horrensdous on defense. It was a dunk fest and a three point shoot out for GS.

47 assists, 62% shooting....fail of epic proportions...I don't ever remember the Lakers giving up 80 in a half or 149...ever!

That was terrible. The only positive is that, no matter how embarassing, it only counts as one loss. The other positive thing is, nobody expected us to win in GS after embarassing them on the second night of a b2b.

Warriors have the best offensive rating since it began to be tracked in 1974 though .. 1pt better per 100 poss than ... the 87 Lakers .

Still I agree the defense has been flat out terrible for 6 games .

Right now our defensive rating is worse than last season one ...

Too early to tell. Kerr has GS playing at a high pace and still playing some defense.

But ya, Luke might at some point get a reputation for a genius on offense and little defensive focus like D'Antoni. But its way too early as he has coached 16 games as a full blown head coach. It will depend on the Lakers development.

I might repeat myself but the Lakers are very talented offensively but not very talented defensively. Ingram and Nance are their best shot at an adquate defender but Russell, Randle and Clarkson are never going to be defined by their defense.

as i've said many times, you only need a couple good individual defenders. the best defenses are the result of executing good team schemes. no reason why the lakers couldn't get there at some point. it's more about iq than athleticism. size helps a bit, too, and they have that.

Our defense and the effort given every night looks nothing like the last 3 years. It's also got nothing to do I'm sure with the quality of the teams we've been playing.

The refs really don't send rookies to the ft line. Dude... Ingram got fouled so many times taking it to the paint and no calls

Injuries , injuries , injuries ... 3 starters out despite playing limited minutes , no way this should happen this early in the season especially to DAR and Uncle P .

Back to being one of the worst teams in the league with the likes of Calderon , Huertas and Thomas" way less skilled offensively than Kwame Brown" Robinson .

Really a miracle this team is 8-9 despite injuries as well as a really, really tough schedule. Need to get some of these guys back and find a way to hover somewhere around .500 and try and get back on track.

Lakers are down to 25th in the Sagarin rankings, despite playing the 5th hardest schedule. We are 2-5 vs. top 10 teams and 4-7 vs. top 16 teams. That would give us the 14th seed by season's end.

sagarin's rankings are usually pretty good, and this has me worried. lakers are outperforming those metrics in terms of w/l right now. of course, they've had a couple massive blowouts in the first 15 games or so, and tends to hurt.

on the other hand, 14th seed means a) massive improvement and b) shipping philly a pick with significantly less value than one might have expected. need to fall out of the top 8 or 9 in this draft not to feel a bit sick about that.
