Our top draft picks look less and less impressive when compared to their contemporaries.

Caught the 2nd half of the game on the DVR, wasn't able to watch it live. I'm not gonna lie, this one hurt. Watching Embiid and Simmons out there effortlessly dominating while our rookie pg scores 2 points and is benched again. Randle's offense suddenly sputtering, Ingram with a good game tonight but wildly inconsistent overall. This is hard to watch, I've never had to go this long as a bad team as a Lakers fan. In the 90's not being good was missing the Finals, but every year we were still a playoff team from when I started watching in 93. It is going to be a painful wait until we are good again, especially when I don't really enjoy watching half of this team play. So frustrating to come up #2 year after year and know you missed on immediate impact and most likely star players twice in a row. I'm still a believer in Ball, but until his shot starts falling or he adds to his offensive game, again, this is going to be painful. I'm down after this one, I'm genuinely down and not really wanting to watch games much at this moment.

Safe to say we could be 8-7 with better coaching.

Walton , tonight , was as dumb as Vincent Collet in 2015 when Pau dropped 40 on us without seeing any double team

Why has Luke got us taking 24.3 threes a night when we make 28%? Because we're open? No kidding we're open, word is out.

Well we better get better in free agency because though I think are youth will max out as fantastic players and be a contender in several years, Philly is the team of the future as is. I mean we didn't even play that bad minus Lonzo's shot and an overall off night shooting especially from 3 where we suck nightly. Still Kuz and TDog had career nights. Those guys were missing their "other" first round pick and on the last of a 5 game roadie (and they are 7-2 last 9 games). We got Bogut and Lopez ffs and it meant absolutely nothing vs Embiid. Not panicking, I like our guys and a better shooting night could have easily made the difference but I keep thinking "they're missing Fultz". Gonna be some great wars between LA and Philly over the next "X" years.

Embiid injuries history has to be taken into account here ... but IF ( this is a big one) he can put these pbs behind him , Sixers have a very bright future ahead indeed ... not sure if its FO will be up to the task too though

    It only one game, but:

It's hard not to be shook after last night. You look at what Philly has (and even if Fultz is a bust, it's still gravy) compared to us..... Did we have the #7 pick and then 3 straight #2s and come away with ostensibly nothing?

Russell is gone, Randle is gone during/after this season, Ingram hasn't progressed as much as we would hope (and even as much as some of his contemporaries as noted in a comment above). Lonzo is too early to tell yet. The counting stats and the energy he has brought to the team is nice, but the shooting is trending from "slump" to "holy s*** he has to completely remake his shot in the offseason".

One of these two (Lonzo or Ingram) HAS to hit. HAS to become what Simmons and Embiid look like....Or we're beyond f***ed. Even getting LBJ and PG, if these two underwhelm... we're a 2nd round team AT BEST.

Embiid looked like prime Hakeem WITH a 3-point shot. The euro step he put on Lopez and the dream shake on Randle.... wow.

There were a crop of good to great players in the past few drafts. Wiggins, Embiid, Jokic, LaVine, Gordon, KAT, Booker, Porzingis, Simmons, Jaylen Brown, Sabonis, Fultz, Tatum, Fox, Markkanen, Smith Jr., Mitchell

We could have gone Jokic/Gordon over Randle in 2014, and Porzingis/Booker over Russell in 2015, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.

happens a lot, even to the team we're currently admiring (hello, noel and okafor).

i agree with the general sentiment, but really, it's a condemnation of tanking, ironically. as is the following:

several of those guys weren't available to us, and those that were got passed on by several other teams, too.

only tatum, brown, zinger, and fox don't fit that description, and all but zinger don't necessarily look better than ingram/russell/ball, imo.

the draft is more of a crapshoot than people realize. our best young player was the 27th pick. and he's as good or better than some folks listed above.

i'm glad the lakers didn't shamelessly tank like philly, even if we were just as miserable during that stretch. intent matters. and had they not gotten super lucky with ping pong balls, they wouldn't have simmons right now, and they'd be an inevitable embiid injury away from utter s***tiness every night.

lest you think i'm sullying the WMC thread with optimism, i will now WMC:

this is why you don't declare high picks off limits in trade talks. it's quite likely that nobody signs with us in the summer and we'd gladly trade all of our recent high picks for a paul george. ALL OF THEM. had we been willing to part with one at a time, i think george and cousins are both lakers right now, and we're competing for the playoffs and in every single trade rumor for every single disgruntled star.

so yeah, i'm contrary as hell.

edit: btw, the C Bags saved themselves from disaster by trading for irving using a high pick, imo. they should have traded their others for jimmy butler instead of hoping one day tatum or brown might be as good as butler.

Getting tired of the flip flopping. I'm avoiding all sports news with all this BS. Lakers were up 1 with 4 min left last night. It wasn't like they sucked a** for 4 quarters.

Walton looks frustrated more then ever. I don't know if the players are responding to him. If anything, that might be the major problem. Ingram looked as confident as I have ever seen him and Clarkson looks to be playing smarter. Last 2 games he was making great decisions.

tired of these slow starts, only to fight back but still lose....wins do matter n it does indicate improvement. i. don't care what they rank statistically, even if improved if these guys still end up being 20 something win team

I don't think it's a condemnation of tanking. Tanking is the unfortunate reality until a better system is in place.

The draft IS a crapshoot, but you still have to make the pick. Hindsight is 20/20, but you don't have to be Milwaukee getting Giannis at 14, you just have to NOT be the 2003 Pistons passing on Wade, Bosh and Carmelo for Darko.

I agree that picks/young players should never be off limits. I remember when we had the pick that ended up being Ingram, that people were talking here about maybe flipping that to Philly for Okafor (because he was in a crowded frontcourt). I remember putting a response that we should've flipped it to Denver for their young C (who was also in a crowded frontcourt)....Jokic. I remember getting some "meh", "nah", "we can do better" type responses. Love Brandon and as long as he is in P&G I'm rooting for him...but so far, I was right.

You can't ever limit yourself in life. I know people don't want to trade the young guys/sign LeBron because "just wait out GS". Thats fine, but we just saw last night what's potentially waiting after GS is done dominating. There's always going to be a team to "wait out".

Our december schedule is tough but there is a good chance we won't be worse than the December last year...

what did we go back then? 1-16?
