I'd absolutely ask what they're looking for. Ibaka makes a ton of sense for this system.

I see it too when you brought him up a couple weeks back.

But what exactly are the Magic looking for? Not exactly in the playoff picture, 5 games out, so maybe not looking for players to make the push. Are they looking for more young talent because theirs have been lackluster?

    Hear me out...

Either they know they're losing Ibaka and they want to get something out of it now, or they're tanking.

    If it's Scenario A:
We trade Lou Williams and Jose Calderon.
They trade Ibaka and Mario Hezonja.

They can cut loose Calderon, send him to Cleveland, and have Lou under control for one season. They'd still have max room left for next season.
We get Ibaka and his Bird Rights, and we get Hezonja, a guy who hasn't performed well but whose skills I think would serve us well.

    Russell/Clarkson/Huertas
    Young/Hezonja
    Ingram/Deng
    Randle/Nance/Black/Robinson
    Ibaka/Zubac/Mozgov

I know Ibaka's ideal at the 4, but we can run him at the 5 a lot.

For next season, we could presume Nick leaves, see about Ibaka at a deal starting at 20M, and be at around 84M in salaries, giving us about 19M to spend, or 14M if we took Ibaka up to 25M to start. (We could lose Black to improve that to 21-27M to spend). I'd obviously run at Hayward with a max deal in the latter scenario:
    Russell/Clarkson/Huertas
    (Hayward)/Hezonja
    Ingram/Deng
    Randle/Nance
    Ibaka/Zubac/Mozgov

If we can't land Hayward, we can save $10M by looking at Redick, Allen, or Caldwell-Pope. Beef up another position of need for us. That gets me excited.

Scenario B probably involves our losing JC, maybe in a salary dump with Calderon, but we might be able to get a pick in the mix. Unsure of the market for Ibaka in an expiring year.

I just don't see a world where we can get Ibaka and Hezonja for Lou and Calderon, even if they are blowing it up.

I'm sure they would be getting better offers for Ibaka.

Even if this was the case that they are scared of losing Ibaka for nothing they can easily get a better deal than that.

They might. That's why one should make offers...(BTW, I'm pretty convinced they want to tank.)

The Magic gave up a lot for Ibaka. I've ready that they want to get back a lot for Ibaka to save face. Suffice to say, trading Ibaka and someone drafted #5 overall just 2 years ago for Lou/Calderon is the opposite of saving face. Admitting Hezonja is a bust just makes things worse. Plus, as someone who wants the Lakers to trade Lou to assist in tanking, I'll say that if Orlando wants to tank then they shouldn't be trading for Lou.

Hard to save face and tank though.

Edit: but I'm pretty sure that's the plan.

Via Sporting News: "“They’re asking too much,” one front office executive said. “(The Magic) would probably like to make a few moves there, but Ibaka is the one they’re really pushing because he is going to leave. But they have had too high a price. They want a young player and a pick, two young players — you know, a package that can get them back some assets. They’re not going to get that. Not for three, maybe four months of Serge Ibaka.”

That's good. Now we wait and see what the price becomes. As it ain't what they want.

I'd offer Nance Jr. and Mozgov.

I agree. The inevitable price they get won't be what they want. I'm just saying that if they are going to come down on the price and eventually do a deal, it's not going to be for something like Lou/Calderon.

They already have Biyombo. Not that they'd want Mozgov and his contract either way, but just saying having a bloated contract at the C position already makes it that much more unlikely.

That said, I do think Nance Jr. is certainly someone they'd look at. They could probably do better but Calderon, Nance and a future 2nd for Ibaka works salary-wise.

Deng has a fluid Birth certificate, he can be as young as the Magic wants him to be...

    I was being flippant. :D

But I would maybe, very maybe, give them one of our secondary prospects like Black, Nance Jr., or at most Clarkson and I might want a pick back.

I guess Orlando would ask for JC, DAR and Ingram considering their glut at PF/C

    I'd
Love the idea. Isn't it hard to stretch Deng?
