This is my hope as well, especially since I loved both Deadpool movies and how can you not get excited about him and Wolverine teaming up?!!!

I also can't wait for the new seasons of the Punisher (my absolutely favorite TV show of all time) and (to a lesser extent) Daredevil.

There are some glimmers of hope still.

I also really enjoyed Awkwafina as Katy, she was great and a breath of fresh air comedy-wise IMO.

The movie in general may not have been great, but you can say that about quite a few other MCU movies from before the Avengers magnificent finale. It seems like every move after is measured in comparison to Infinity War and Endgame instead of the previous movies, which is not really fair. I agree in general the average quality was better in the past, but some of the newer movies (as mentioned above) are not really worse than, say, Thor or Iron Man 2.

Literally couldn't agree more, and your statement about climbing that mountain slowly is absolutely spot on.

I am still stunned that Raimi never watched Wandavision before making the movie. I simply do not understand how you could make a movie without watching all the previous shows/movies the characters were in. It's bad enough when its clear the writers haven't read any of the comics. Not knowing what happened in the show that came out not too long before your movie is criminal.

Yeah. I think Reynolds and Jackman are going to knock it out of the park.

I'm definitely hyped about Punisher. I was more hype about Daredevil before She Hulk but hopefully they have seen the error of their ways and will get back to the basics with that character.

There hav also been some rumors about a new Punisher season, for example here https://thedirect.com/article/the-punisher-disney-plus-reboot

We shall see. IF they do it though, I hope they don't mess with it and turn it into some kind of famili-friendly, romantic comedy s**t. Bernthal's comments allow for some optimism, but I can imagine Disney not wanting to go this far into dark mode unfortunately.

Yeah, I think they want to use Daredevil as a temperature reading on the character. World has changed a bit since the Netflix show and people have worn his likeness while doing some awful things. They don't want to be seen supporting that image and I don't think they know how far down the R rated road they're willing to go. I'm looking at Deadpool and Blade to set that bar.

I hope they figure it out and let Bernthal cook, because he was phenomenal in that role.

I didn't know that (about people doing awful things while wearing his (I presume) skull sign. I'd bet it's not like the show was an inspiration for some idiots but still, if such stuff happened, I understand if Disney would be very careful here.

BTW, I read somewhere they also killed off Punisher in the comics, may that also be related? If yes, that's crazy. People don't get violent because of TV shows, games, comic books etc., but I guess this is a topic for a whole other discussion.

Anyway, let's hope they can somehow maintain the overall climate of the original 2 series.

BTW 2 - I completely forgot about Blade! That one could also be good to great. Fingers crossed.

Just when you thought the MCU TV division couldn't be any more of a s*** show, they said hold my beer.

First up, a look at what went on behind the scenes with Secret Invasion

Followed by them hitting the reset on the Daredevil show even though they had a handful of episodes in the can.

Apparently it took that long to realize they had filmed a legal procedural

On the positive side, at least it sounds like they are actively trying to fix things instead of pretending nothing is wrong like other franchises

Yeah, it's a step in the right direction. Wasted a lot of money (how do you burn $20m-$30m an ep. and just say, eh we'll figure it out as we go) and everyone's time in the process.

I've watched all the recent shows except Ms Marvel and She-Hulk and at their best, they're decent and at their worst... they should burn the negatives, delete the file, bury the reel.

Coming off the highest high we'll likely have in our lifetime with regards to comic book cinema, Infinity War and End Game and every meticulous detail that went into building that with only minor missteps (IM2, Thor 2) then to sink to these lows across all their platforms is an awful embarrassment.

The phase as a whole is shameful. These lessons are common sense, especially when you have a history of success. That makes it even worse.

    Crapaloosa.

Once IronMan was out, they should have leaned into Dr. Strange + some Fury or some such...

Instead we got AntMan without Pena and Tor Love and BS... Meh.

I think what this has shown is that Kevin Feige was not the grand mastermind everyone gave him credit for, and that Jon Favreau, Ike Perlmutter and Joss Wheadon were far more instrumental in getting the MCU started than people initially thought.

Also, Disney is one of the worst ran companies in the country.

Marvels doesn’t seem like a “must watch”

I’m asking myself why I don’t have interest. Trying to be objective. Is it a lack of male superheroes? Do the characters just not resonate with me? Does it look like a crappy storyline? Does it feel like it doesn’t connect to the rest of the Marvel Universe and is just a piggy back lame attempt at a girl power money grab from gullible fans?

I don’t know. Maybe all of those to some degree.

Well Captain Marvel (the first movie) was sandwiched between Infinity War and Endgame. It was the Veronica's Closet of MCU movies. Veronica's Closet was one of the highest rated shows on TV because it was in between Seinfeld and ER. It got moved and plummeted. Suffice to say, it made a billion, not on it's own strength, but due to everyone watching our heroes be snapped out of existence a few months earlier, and wondering if it will give us a clue as to what's going on for Endgame.

The other two Marvels in the movie: One is a side character in a show that came out years ago that, when judged against the movies, nobody saw. And the other Marvel was on what I believe was the lowest rated (viewership wise) show on Disney Plus (of the Marvel and Star Wars shows).

Point it, it's not just you. Nobody really cares about these characters. I don't think it's a lack of male heroes because if a movie with Storm and Jean Grey from the X-men was coming out, we'd all be excited. Its just that nobody cares about these particular heroes.

The weekly s*** show reports are really disappointing.

A few of the latest ones...

    1) Blade was 4th lead in the latest Blade script for the movie... show? (I can't keep up with which it is)... how can you have the titular character 4th on the call sheet. That draft focused on women empowerment. Feige had to bring on Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) to fix it and to convince Mahershala Ali not to walk.

    2) they've considered moving away from Majors as the big baddie for this phase. They gave thought to Dr Doom which would make a lot more sense. It sounds like most of this was after Ant Man bombed and after the arrest. If your big baddie can be defeated by ants, he's not worth that position. But they've already started down this road and is just another misstep.

    3) they're considering bringing back retired/dead Avengers for the next Avengers movie. It can happen and wouldn't be totally out of left field with how big of a role the multi dimensions is playing, but how many times can you go to that well without it making it all cheap? We're already about to have Hugh Jackman back in Deadpool and possibly one other thing (rumored). That's a delicate high wire to balance before fans feel cheated.

    4)

    I have no words

    5) The Marvels looks bad. Test screenings were bad. Needed a month of reshoots to make it coherent. Director left to go work on next gig before post-production was done. It's only tracking to make $75-80m opening weekend (1/3-ish of budget), which is $100m less than Strange made in its opening weekend last year.

All of this is in the new Variety article

I just don't get it. Ultimately, comic books and comic book movies are male driven. (Obligatory "there are women who like them too!!" yes, yes. There are some. But if you've ever been in a comic book shop, it's all dudes, and if a girl wanders in there, she is met with dumbfounded stares, as if a unicorn just walked into the place.) Why would you take the most successful franchise in history, and try to reshape it into a brand focused on women? Women liked the MCU because they liked seeing dudes built like demi-gods doing manly stuff with their shirts off. Aquaman had a larger female audience than male. Was that a result of women everywhere wanting to see a strong Mera? No. It was Jason Mamoa spending half the movie shirtless.

And nobody is trying this with movies driven by females. Do you think they are going to make a Barbie sequel where it's in a dystopian future, and robots have taken over; and Barbie, dressed in a skimpy bikini, will be taking on AI robots with large gatling guns? I'd watch that. But the 1.5 billion worth of woman that watched the first one will be horrified.

Ultimately, Disney is a company that has been infiltrated at every level by morons who want to push their agendas as opposed to tell good stories that audiences want to hear. Star Wars and Marvel were purchased because Disney wanted properties that appealed to boys. They wanted in on the lucrative action figure market that is driven by boys. And what did they do? They promptly turned both franchises into female driven franchises.

And this is not to say that there should be no female heroes. There absolutely should be. But Marvel is basically making EVERYONE female. Ironheart, She-hulk, three different Marvels, female Black Panther, female Hawkeye, female Loki, whatever that thing is they turned Emilia Clarke into at the end of Secret Invasion...and it sounds like they were going to continue in Blade. What are they doing?!? Heck, Dr. Strange 2 was about Wanda and America Chavez in the final battle.
