I have little doubt it's being treated unfairly at this point. I think critics (and general audience fans) are not into the Universe that's been built here. I would consider a lot of the negativity as blowback from the BvS debacle.

That being said while RT has it at 27% the average score is actually 4.7/10 among critics. Really bad, but not funhouse mirror bad.

I'm encouraged that you two liked it though. I had made up my mind to skip it, but I can be talked back into it now.

    I give it a 6~6.5/10.

Plot was a bit messy and pace was a small issue but it was fun. If I had to compare it to anything it would be Guardians of the Galaxy, not as good but near. A group of rag tags fighting together to save the world while a badass soundtrack played behind them.

Margot Robbie was great, apparently I never knew I was into crazy until now. Robbie, Will Smith and Joel Kinnaman bounced off each other really well. Leto works as the Joker. Two of the characters felt like throw ins but everyone else worked well for me, Jai Courtney was awesome.

It was more entertaining than BvS, not the greatest movie but far from the disaster that critics are making it out to be.

You should see it. You and I saw eye to eye on BvS. I think you'd get a kick out of it. There are some issues with it. It takes a bit to get into the actual story (a little like BvS but without the spastic, disjointedness) because it introduces a lot of characters. So if this movie's foibles bother you as little as they bothered me, the rest is fun and enjoyable. Not a masterpiece, but if BvS was on the same level as Suicide Squad, I'd be soooo pumped for the DCEU. That's not praise for Suicide Squad as much as it is my disappointment in BvS though. I mean, I gave SS a B- at best. The fact that I'd be ecstatic over Batman and Superman being on screen for the first time together in a classic storyline providing me with B- entertainment is sad.

GOTG is better (one of my favourite movies) but SS is quite good, i don't get the reviews (even in freakin Poland it scores low). This is the best DC movie to date if you ask me.

    Suicide Squad has a 7.3 on IMDB. I think that's pretty accurate. A very solid C+ / B-.

I wish this movie was R rated and they let the Joker do his thing. One of my complaints is that the Joker was under-utilized.

Im actually okay with the amount of Joker because he's really only there as an origin story for Harley. He doesn't play a huge part in the origins of the Squad. Maybe we'll see more of him in the next Batman movie or the rumored Harley Quinn movie.

I'm not a comic book reader. Never have been. So I don't know the back-stories that most of you guys do. When I watch these movies, I have no idea if they are true to the original stories.

I actually enjoyed suicide squad. I really don't understand why critics gave it such a low score as if they want it to fail. Movie was entertaining. Had some good funny moments even though there were some also that made you cringed. Will Smith did his thing. Margot robbie played Harley quinn very well. The sequence towards the end with el Diablo I enjoyed. And Jared Leto as joker was great also.

They squandered an opportunity with Suicide Squad. There was a good movie in there somewhere...but it was an overall flop in my book. 5/10 at best.

You're seriously the first person I've heard say that.

Well would it help if I said it was still better than I expected after seeing all the negative press? :D Not saying much tho

^^ it's cool. I don't expect everyone to agree. I can understand where you're coming from. I think they had a lot of relatively new characters they had to introduce and get the story out.

Definitely better than what the critics made it out to be. My only real complaint was I wanted more Joker.

Apparently so did Jared Leto. He has been very public about how unhappy he is that most of his scenes were cut/altered.

To be fair to @lakersyunowin the vast majority of people I've talked to have said it's a really underwhelming movie. Almost all of them agree with RT's average score which is right around that 5/10 mark.

They need to promote whoever makes the trailers for the DCCU. The trailers for Suicide Squad were downright amazing. Same goes for Man of Steel (which I also found disappointing), amazing trailers.

Funnily enough there's a rumor (which was backed up by a friend of mine who worked for a competing trailer company) that WB paid one of their trailer contractors to cut SS for them. They were unhappy with Ayer's version which was really dark with less humor. They paid the trailer company to take the pre-existing footage and re-edit the movie so it'd be more "fun".

They then tested both versions of the film, took what worked from both of them, then glued them together into the theatrical release.

Apparently the practice itself isn't THAT uncommon (similar rumors are coming from the Rogue One movie), but it IS uncommon to get a trailer company involved.

There are usually multiple cuts. They can be different, but in the end, the scenes only have so much footage. If I hand the same footage to two different people and tell them to follow a script, there may be subtle timing differences. One person may use a shot the other person doesn't, but they aren't going to be wildly different films. It isn't like there is a cut out there where Harley Quinn has green hair and wears Care Bear pajamas the entire time and ends up in a sex scene with Chewbacca. Cause...that didn't get shot.
