Petitions are hitting the web to remove Snyder as the helmer of JL. We can only hope. If he made this an overpopulated cluster f***, just imagine what he's going to do when there's even more characters. Horrifying!

If they can't get Miller (who's an EP on JL), here's some other names I'd consider (in no order):
-Ben Affleck - why not? He's WB's salvation right now out of Snyder's mess. He's going to write and direct his Batman, if he wouldn't burn out from the workload, let him tackle this one too.
-Matthew Vaughn - has shown he can handle/succeed at tackling comic book movies and action with Kick-a**, Kingsman and First Class.
-JJ Abrams - Star Trek, Star Wars, why not add another MEGA franchise? He respects the fans and source material enough not to Snyder the project.
-Jon Favreau - I don't think he wants to invest that amount of time into another comic book property after his dealings with IM. He certainly would not sign up for more than one film. But he handled the first Iron Man very well. The sequel's shortcomings had more to do with Marvel wanting to use it as a setup film for their other properties, thus souring Jon on the process.
-James Wan - already in the DC fold with Aquaman. He has shown he can handle big properties and inject a franchise with Red Bull as seen with his F&F films. Might not be a thinking's man movie, but if you're going for a popcorn flick, at least do it right.

Great list. Affleck or Abrams would make me pee my pants.

Any of those would do. It doesn't take a genius to tell a coherent story. Snyder just isn't that bright a film maker. He's got bad ideas. He's capable of some great cinematography, but that's about it.

I understand the hate on Snyder and rightfully so, but doesn't the writers deserve some of the blame to? Unless Snyder had a hand in writing the script, I would place equal blame on those guys as well.

Two problems I had with this movie and MOS: the movies were generally dark and grim. Call it the Nolan effect if you want, but looking at previous Superman movies, I wouldn't say they were necessarily cheerful, but had that Superman's here to save the day instead of the Metropolis has turned into Gotham feel. That look would fit a Batman movie and it would have been great if the contrast between the two heroes was made more apparent in this movie. But half the time I couldn't tell if I was watching a Superman or a Batman movie.
A big reason which brings me to my second problem was the music. I love music, especially movie music. I didn't like the music for MOS. The music fit the movie, but it didn't fit Superman. Listen to the music when it featured Superman in both movies, it's somber, serious, almost sad, not even heroic. Which is why although not the greatest, Superman Returns is my favorite supes movie even though I pretend the ending doesn't exist. It was brighter and it just had a more heroic feel to it.

I agree on the music. I think Zimmer is criminally overrated. He doesn't even do music half the time as much as sound effects. But in Zimmer's defense, you are comparing the music in MoS and BvS to the Superman March by John Williams. It is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written...for any movie...or even non-movies. John Williams doesn't really do soundtracks as much as he composes beautiful symphonies that are inspired by the movie.

Eh if you can call it a soundtrack. But I get what you're saying. I'm not saying it needs to be a masterpiece, hell trying to compose a theme for an iconic character after an iconic theme has already been ingrained into the public is a tall order. I'm just saying the music composed didn't fit the character of superman, more like contributed to the gloomy atmosphere of both movies.
Btw your description of John Williams music...spot on.

DC Universe question I've always had:

Between Metropolis and Gotham City, which one is the equivalent of NYC?

It's generally believed to be Gotham = New York.

At various times Metropolis has also been New York, New Jersey, or most recently Chicago even though in the comics the two cities are close together. The location has been highly dependent on the writer over the years.

Agreed on all points, but Snyder isn't just the director he's the one who is in charge of creative control for the franchise too. He's their Kevin Feige who controls the strings for Marvel. That should be a scary thought for DC fans.

Finally got around to watching BvS. Wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, wasn't good or great either. I'd rank it as OKAY.

The Holy Trinity were great, while as the heroes and as their normal selves. Batfleck was pretty good and I feel like he carried the movie. Had reservations about Gal Gadot as WW but she was good, considering how minor a role she had but can't wait for the solo movie. Henry Cavill is fine as Superman, really just continues his performance from MoS. Also liked the "easter eggs" of the other Justice League members.

Biggest complaint is Jesse freaking Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Apparently he auditioned for a Riddler role but they liked him so they casted him as LL but apparently didn't tell him. His dialogue pieces were cringeworthy. Also the whole Lois Lane/Daily Planet plot line, was pretty boring and bland. And freaking Doomsday, such a throw in as a plot device, I wish the big fight would have been an actual BvS.

Biggest problem for DCCU looks like its going to be Zack Snyder. While his movies, visually, are always great, his movies are never coherent. The plot/stories are always all over the place. It should have been two different movies instead of trying to quickly jumpstart the Justice League series of movies. Hopefully they've learned from the mistakes in this one.

I HATED the Justice League previews... The only one that was interesting at all was Cyborg's. The Flash's was completely generic and could have been so much better. Aquaman's was AWFUL. He looked like a mix between a mermaid and an octopus and did nothing of substance. He was completely wasted.

And they included it in the MIDDLE of the movie! We were talking about other stuff and then suddenly we're watching Wonder Woman check her emails from Batfleck123@gmail.com! Why???

    Awful...

Again I give the movie a large pass for some stuff, but there's just sooooooo much wrong with it.

Oh, I didn't like the placement of them either but I liked Cyborg's creation, Momoa as Aquaman looked awesome. Didn't like Flash, the kid looks weird to me, but I liked Flash's other cameo during a dream sequence.

With all the terrible reviews and the criticism that they were trying to force too much into this movie, I expected that they'd clutter it way too much with the other Justice League members.

So maybe it's just because I had that negative expectation, but in comparison a 2 minute montage of the other characters seemed fine with me. It didn't take me out of the movie, it made sense since they brought up Wonder Woman's interest in whatever was on that server already, and it made me more intrigued in the universe and whatever the hell Lex is up to.

It's not necessarily that they gave you the teasers, it was that a) it was misplaced badly, b) they were poorly executed for the most part, and c) were presented in a stupid way. Indulge me if you will:

Don't show them IN THE MIDDLE of the movie. Showing them in the middle of the movie foreshadows their involvement in THIS movie. Otherwise, why bother going through the trouble? There's a scene towards the end that just BEGS for Aquaman's involvement, but it never happened even though you set it up with the previous footage.

No, don't include it at that point because it's just stupid. Include it AFTER the climactic scene so people aren't wondering to themselves: hey if Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg exist here why aren't they helping? A giant monster is tearing down the city and they're okay to sit back and let that happen? I mean Flash couldn't even let a little liquor store get robbed. Why is he cool letting Doomsday run wild?

Show it at the end at ________'s funeral. The two main characters are standing off to the side chatting about the "others" (this is assuming you stay with your horrendous plot). While chatting about how ______'s death made you reflect and how you feel the need to expand the base of operations you talk about the "others" you saw on Lex's server. While talking about them show them doing something cool. Flash should be flirting with a chick while stopping a robbery or maybe catching a person falling out a window. Replace Cyborg with the vastly more interesting Jon Stewart who is wearing a trench coat, but you can see his glowing ring. Wonder Woman is fighting some unknown assailants and enjoying it. Aquaman is swimming and mingling with the denizens of the deep, whales or orcas or sharks or something.

Then wrap it up with something like "we need to call them together." And the reply "why?" The answer: "because something is coming... something dark... that we're just not ready for." End movie.

It gives you organic senses of the other JL members that they want to include. It doesn't follow Marvel's ideas which you're apparently avoiding by making "dark" movies which is code for movies without a coherent plot and murderous heroes. It provides you with the context of the new characters without breaking up the rhythm of the movie itself.

The way they did it made no sense at all from a storytelling perspective and seriously they made Aquaman incredibly dull. He's already a character with a shaky following. Give him something cool to do so fans can feel excited about him.

I think it's a very enjoyable film. I'll watch Affleck, Cavill, and Godot in a trilogy, for sure. I like Amy Adams. She's solid.

    Affleck steals the show.
    Eisenberg f***ing terrible. f***ing terrible. f***ing f***ing Terri f***ing ble.

Totally agreed. I've been looking forward to this one for a looong time and I really liked it, but didn't care for Eisenberg's Luthor.

I really am glad you guys liked it. I didn't at all, but I would have loved to have loved it.

The movie's box office is approaching disaster. Right now it's sitting at 680 million or so, but it took at least 450 million to make. The studio doesn't get 100% of those profits so some estimates have the movie needing to hit 800 million to break even. Warner has refuted that saying it's less, but even their estimates would have the break even point somewhere between 700-750 million (although they haven't officially said so).

Now, it's all relative. Batman vs. Superman will make money eventually and undoubtedly both in the box office and with greater other sales like merchandise etc.

However, the abysmal critical reception and the poor word of mouth have been crushing this movie's legs. Internationally it's not faring any better with China rejecting it almost completely at this point and many other countries backing away quickly as well. The Chinese market was so cold on BvS that there's some concern they'll reject other WB/DC properties without giving them a chance first.

I hope they delay Justice League and put someone besides Snyder at the helm. He's got some great strengths as a director (visuals are typically fantastic), but storytelling is not his strong suit. He needs to be replaced.

Because of the mixed reviews, I've finally given in to "acquiring" the movie, and I'll probably watch it tonight.

I hated it, but I openly admit there's some really really cool stuff in this movie. There's just a lot more that I hated.
