Whiteside at the 5 and Barnes at the 3 would be good but given the questions about Whiteside's mindset...I'd roll with Horford and Barnes too. Noah would be a really viable backup but would he be open to it? I still think this group needs a perimeter player that can knock down the outside shot with some consistency. If we do get a high pick, that could be Ingram.

Although having a bona fide point to backup Russell would be ideal, I would be comfortable having Clarkson play the point for a spells since he did so in his rookie year. He would have the rock in his hands to create for himself and others. Then again the space and pace strategy that Walton is about to place might make that moot as everyone on the floor touches the rock and moves it.

The only thing I MIGHT not like about that offseason is I'm not sure if we would have enough money left over NEXT offseason to sign a max fre agent. I know the jump is expected to be big, but would it be that big?

Also, I think Horford is enough of a veteran presence that we might want to steer towards a younger center as our primary backup like Biyombo.

But if Horford is interested in our squad, he'd be perfect.

I think I might pass out if I got an alert that we signed Al Horford for 25 mil per year. I realize the cap situation, but my brain still can't get around it.

I'm surprised you woudl want Horford? I dunno if I want a player on the wrong side of 30 at that price....but of course if he wanted to be here and play for our squad, I wouldn't say no. Plus, it's looking like people are not willing to take a chance on Whiteside or guys like Ezeli/Biyombo so I kinda get it. Horford would be a major upgrade and he can score from everywhere and he's the anchor of a great defense in Atlanta. I just don't like the idea of paying him so much $ when he's kinda on the decline. But when you throw in Noah, I guess having that big man rotation would certainly shore up our defense...but 35M to two guys that are on the decline is a risky play....I do like Barnes though and I hope we get him. He's been the guy I wanted this whole year to be our 3 going forward.

I would do Biyombo, granted he's at 12 million or so. Heck, Biyombo and a resigned Black for 3-4 million a season would be a better center rotation that last season with Hibbert/Sacre/Bass.

We have to be very careful....it's why I think we should go for Barnes/Ezeli and call it a summer. If we want a shot at the 2017 class, and we strike out in 2016 on KD/Derozan/Horford/Whiteside etc....then we need to lock up Barnes and Ezeli, keep the pick, and roll into 2016 with a young nucleus of:

    DAR
    Clarkson
    Barnes
    Randle
    Ezeli

    Huertas
    Lou
    Anthony Brown
    Ingram
    Nance

    Maybe:
    Bass (re-signed 1 year)
    Black (re-signed 3 years @ low price)

Jonas has gotten the better of Whiteside, but we have to remember it's only two games and he also may not be healthy after that knee injury he suffered in Game 1. Do you need an elite center? No, but that's not the point. The point is we desperately need some talent and this guy is the second most talented player on the market. Is he a bit of a head case? Sure, but his talent and productivity is worth it. He's basically a 15/13 player and wasn't even starting much of the season and only playing about 28 minutes a game. I just can't fathom how we pass on that kind of player unless there's something we find out about him off the court.

I clearly stated you could swap out whatever guys you wanted in that mix.

I'm not that attached to any of the people to be honest. All have some issues.

I'm not sold on giving Barnes a max deal. Just as questionable as DeRozan in my eyes.

I do like that he knows the system we will be trying to run, is still young, and can knock down open threes.

    Also a good defender.

If we can't afford Westbrook next summer then by all means don't waste a max contract if it prohibits us from doing that.

I don't think we should focus on restricted guys.

This is why, if given the choice, I take Barnes. Also, Barnes isn't going to have a high usage rate on the Warriors so we don't quite know how good he can be. DeRozan has a green light to do whatever he wants in Toronto and it's still debatable who could have more impact.

Barnes shoots better from the field, considerably better from 3, and grabs more boards in less minutes. And is a great defender who can guard 2-4. DeRozan has more question marks IMO.

Barnes is basically prime Trevor Ariza so it comes down to would you pay Ariza max money?

Yeah. I'm not saying we should keep hoarding cap room but I don't want to give out max contracts for the sake of doing it. That could easily work against us in a few years.

Barnes is averaging 9 pts on 36% shooting in 31 minutes a game this postseason .

His flaws aren't as apparent because he's on such a great team.

Shooting 36% from the field in the playoffs in 31 minutes with no Steph. Hasn't shown me much at all and he's getting opportunities.

How important do you guys think it is to have a center with 18+ft jumper range considering Randle's shot is still nonexistent?

A player with a balanced game is a must in Walton's system. Maybe he can be convinced to take some off his demands to afford another key signing. Walton can talk him into it.

I mean you can cherry pick stats to make him look bad. Small sample size.

Anyways Derozan in the same sample size is even worse.

33% FG and 16% 3P in 37 minutes. And that's WITH lowry. Shikes.
