    ^ Keeping the pick and getting Whiteside + Barnes + pieces is pretty close to the best-case scenario. Not to be pessimistic, but we could just as likely lose the pick and strike out on all big name FA's.

    Well, I looked up the stat for this, and you are correct. In terms of points allowed per possession in post ups, he is one of the worst in the league.

    Note: Players were randomly chosen big men.

    I am not a huge Hassan fan, but I will say, I'm not really worried about a center that gets beat in the post since big men who score a lot in the post are relatively obsolete.

    For me, I have a tough time with some of these advanced stats. #14, #15, and #16 in defensive win shares?

    I get the thing about not needing a dominant center anymore (not that Whiteside is dominant), and how the game is changing to small ball, yada yada. It's a phase. The game always changes. It will change back just as soon as talented bigs come into the league. If prime Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, or Hakeem were around they would dominate just like they did.

    On the worry that Whiteside will lose interest after his pay day, I think that's a legit concern. It was for us with Bynum, who apparently didn't even like basketball. But with a talent that obvious you risk it. We need quality talent. We have a ton of money we need to spend. We need a SF and a Big. Durant and Whiteside are the obvious targets. If we whiff, then we scramble.

    I know that it's time to put our money out there and make a splash. I can't stand this mediocre nonsense anymore. I just see the trend in the NBA as its currently constructed. If I'm giving max dollars, I want a perimeter talent, especially when there are red flags all over the place about Whiteside's attitude.

    It seems everyone and their mom are collecting perimeter talent, and I agree that defensive bigs aren't a valued commodity nowadays.

    We're probably going after Derozan. I have my doubts, but after going through all the other available free agents, it's quite obvious that he's by far the best value on the market.

    Well Pau was actually a pretty decent defender this year and has been decent for the Bulls... Certainly better than he was for us!

    I hear you. I'm thinking you go hard after Barnes and DeRozan and those guys and then you get bigs like Ezeli and Biyombo and Noah who should be cheaper, but fill the need. That's what I'm seeing coming this summer.

    Just listened to Mitch interview on the radio with Thompson and Trudell. The man keeps the cards close to his chest. I was really pleased to hear that he chuckled at we are definitely trading the pick regardless of position.

    He also was very complimentary to Luke and recognized that we need a defense specialist on the coaching staff. Very good news overall.

    He was also clear and adamant that he (and Jim) need to do their job and get Luke some help in FA. They've got a plan. I don't know what it is, but they've got a good plan for what's coming this summer.

    Whiteside, Barnes, DeRozan, the pick, and Luke as the head coach sounds like a pretty damn good offseason to me.

    We can mix and match those names with Horford, Deng, Noah, etc but I'm confident we're going to be a much better team next season in a lot of different areas.

    I am hoping for Durant myself, and while the playoffs have really brought my feelings of DeRozan down, I think I could get behind a lineup of: Russell/DeRozan/Barnes/Randle/Whiteside I think is pretty much more realistic and it allows Clarkson and the #1-3 pick to come off the bench - if it rolls that way.

    DeRozan has warts, but I look at this offseason more as a combo of players instead of just one guy. I wouldn't want to depend on him alone to bring us to glory but I think he can be a piece of the puzzle especially if we have some shooters around him.

    I'd love Durant just not sure if we can pull that off. I think guys like Whiteside, Horford, DeRozan, Deng and even a few of the restricted guys like Barnes are within reach.

    We can really take a huge step back toward credibility this offseason if we play it right.

    Wait....is it even possible for us to get Derozan, Whiteside AND Barnes? We have two max slots right? I guess Derozan would take up 25M, Whiteside 20M, and Barnes 20M? Do we have 65M in cap space? I thought it was 60M if we keep the pick and like close to 68M if we lose it...

    I don't believe it's possible. And why would we get those guys? We wouldn't stand a chance still and we'd kill our ability for he home run free agent.

    If all three wanted the max, no. We couldn't afford all three. I'd much rather just do Barnes and *gulp* Whiteside and then save that extra room for the NEXT offseason to use it and the cap jump to get Westbrook.

    Barkley on Inside the NBA a few days ago even brought up this point where he said watch Hassan when he is guarding his man the next few games. He very rarely blocks his own man's shots. Instead his blocks come in the form of helping on drives or switching over.

    Barkley usually is clueless in what he says but I thought it was a very smart observation. The last few games I have been watching and looking for this and its been true. Last night for example he had recorded 3 block shots and all of them were from helping his teammates but when Jones was scoring at will on him in the 4th and early in the game he never was close to blocking those kinds of shots.

    Keep watching for this as its something to definitely consider a possible limitation for him.
