    no chance :D

I see Nick being stretched really soon. Maybe even sooner than we get a coaching decision. Nick wants out and we don't need him here anymore.

I wonder if Nick's career (in the NBA) is over. Is anyone signing a guy who is a total goofball, on the wrong side of 30, and couldn't get off the bench on a 17 win team?

He'll find a home somewhere. Some bad team in need of a scoring option will give him a one-year deal.

No way would I give Dwight $20 million/year whether or not we're going into the new cap landscape. Not a chance, put the hate aside, just not a smart move financial for someone who is only getting older and still not improving on any thing.

Me neither. You're not alone. He had done nothing in the playoffs the last 3 years and if anything his numbers have slid when the playoffs occur.

Granted I understand we need some help but Demar needs to show me more than what he has. The regular season though this year he did show some promise. Not taking as many 3's and really attacking the basket a lot more which is his strength.

I would take any talent right now, but in all honesty I prefer two way players, if somehow we can trade for Butler and still keeping most of our youngings, and signing kd and Whiteside right there that's defense and offense.

Not a huge DeRozen fan. But I wouldn't turn him down. I'd prefer Batum because he is a better defender and outside shooter. But DeRozen is a good player. I mean, he's not good enough to attract Durant by himself in a "team up" scenario, but maybe if we can move our pick and a youngster for another all-star, it might get it done. The pick and a resigned Clarkson for Cousins? Boogie/Randle/Durant/DeRozen/Russell....*cough, cough cough* Sorry. Just choking on the smoke from my pipe.

Definitely not a sexy signing, but I like Courtney Lee. He has a good year; 45.8% from the field, 37% from 3-point range, and a TS% of 55.6.

To be fair, are the Lakers really in a position where they can pick and choose who to sign? If a 26 yr old all star is WILLING to sign with a rebuilding Lakers team, you say no? I get it, DeRozen doesn't move the needle for a lot of guys, but you are willing to pass up that opportunity to sign an all star, that can potentially bring other talent to the team? Honestly, we need to get past the pipe dream of getting Durant and Westbrook here, it isn't happening.

Oh, I agree. I wouldn't turn DeRozen down. I just hope that we go after Batum instead if we are choosing between second tier wing players. If we can lock up DeRozen in the first 5 minutes of free agency, just do it and worry about the other stuff later. We'd still have another max slot available.

i think derozan's a better player than batum, though batum's skillset would be a better fit. i'd be happy with either, and i think both will get their max. i also think it will constitute an overpay in each case, but that's the reality when you try to build with cap space. only the super duper stars aren't overpays in the open market. either that or the bottom of the barrel guys, but the lakers have way too much cash to only be sifting through the bargain bin.

this is why i'm not a big fan of building with tons of cap space. people talk about miami, but they're really the only success story. so many other failures in these complete teardowns. the post-jordan bulls are a great example. they had to overpay eddie robinson simply because they had so much money to burn and nobody wanted to go there.

it's good to have flexibility (like a max slot or the ability to create one by offloading picks with big short deals, like gs did a couple years ago), but infinite flexibility means you have nothing to go to.

Quick question, does anyone know what the cap floor is for this upcoming season? How much do we need to spend in FA?

80 something million I believe. The Lakers have said they'll be below the cap if they don't find the players they want to take their money. The penalty is paying their players the difference, so I'm not sure they care all that much.

yeah, the cap floor is a bit of a paper tiger. if mitch doesn't get his guys, he'll eat bloated one-year deals in exchange for 2nd rounders. i hope to one day be back on the other end of that.

You know what would be endearing to Kevin Durant if we all wrote a letter to him and convincing him to join the purple N gold. Anyone have kds email or a way to contact him?

"convincing him"? I'd like to see that draft:

Come on Kev, sign for less here, we got young guys that will be ballin' and ready to go in just 5 years and the worst possible young-guy coach for them. But if you write this year off while we wait for Westbrook to come over next summer, assuming you can talk him into it, you can get some really cool endorsement deals at like Cerritos Auto Square for 100k a spot to supplement your 30 million a year Nike deal. Sure, you could just stay where you're at for more money and already have Westbrook who is in his absolute prime, bigs like Ibaka and Kanter and reload over the next year or 2 with the new cap & tax kicking in, and you can even just live in LA in the offseason ...but...I forget why to come here now. Oh yeah you can make your good buddy Stephen A Smith's prediction right! - Signed everyone at lakersball.com

Agents are lickin' their chops right now at all the 1 years this summer and we are probably the #1 destination for them. Maybe Hibbert will be back after all.

According to Chris "multiple sauces" Broussard, he thnks DeRozan could attract Durant!!!
