Mitch pointed out that they will not spend all their money just to spend it. They won't overspend for mediocre talent, they'll continue to look for the right guys at the right price.

He stuck up for Byron, but also said there will be a "lot to talk about" in a meeting later this week. He wouldn't guarantee Byron would keep his job.

So I guess that means we're just chasing after stars again. Even if we're mediocre for a year that's a hell of a lot better than being awful. Being mediocre would've gotten us a seventh or eight seed this season. If we're talking being a seventh or eight seed for two or three years then yeah that's not good, but you have to eventually start to improve the team even if you have to overpay a little bit. Someone like Barnes is a restricted free agent are we really not gonna try and pry him away from Golden State just because we may have to overpay? That doesn't make any sense when he fills a clear need. Look at the Warriors themselves they were technically mediocre for a couple of years in 2013 and 14 they were a sixth seed twice. Winning in the first round once and look where they're now.

We aren't in a position to turn our noses up to anyone at this point. Whiteside is a good start.

Seriously what is wrong with Mitch? If we were to be a seventh or eight seed next season I'm almost positive Russell Westbrook would be on his way.

Mitch usually keeps his cards pretty close to the vest so I wouldn't expect much from what he says aloud. That said, he can't afford not to make some real acquisitions this offseason. His and his boss' jobs are on the line on this one. Let's get some players. If he kicks the can again, that's his decision but it also might cost him his job.

Kicking the can I think absolutely WILL happen if Durant takes the 1+1. The Lakers will go find their ONE max deal type of player (Whiteside I think is a good look), but they'll take on bad contracts in order to preserve the cap space again. They'll like retain Scott so that they can fire him the next season (save money).

If Durant gets the 1+1 we're all expecting, then both he and Russell Westbrook come free in the same year where the Lakers would have enough room to get both of them. I think that's DEFINITELY something the Lakers are looking at. The cap in 2017 is going to be 107 million dollars.

Say the Lakers sign Whiteside to 21 million, give Clarkson a big contract, and then fill in with some expiring deals from guys like Rudy Gay (13.3), Greg Monroe (17.9), Gallinari (15), Randolph (10.4), Gibson (8.6), Ilyasova (8.4), etc.

They would go into the 2017 summer preserving enough room to give both Durant and Westbrook max deals (you'd need roughly 70 million available).

I could very well see them going that route if Durant is off the market and they get lukewarm responses from other stars.

Ireland said that he has heard from agents that Dwight wants to rejoin Lakers.

Ehh I'm kind of done hearing Mitch's BS considering all the crap that he spewed this season about Kobe, young guys, etc. Show me something Mitch, or you can head out with the Buss family. And that doesn't necessarily mean getting free agents, it's not utterly embarrassing the franchise in the process or calling a spade a spade and saying we are in rebuild mode and not bringing in junk and saying we are making the playoffs.

what has two thumbs and told everyone months ago to brace for another summer like the last two? this guy.

sadly, Dwight howard is a better haul than I'm expecting.

the Byron speculation is fairly soul-crushing to boot.

Lol, we aren't signing Dwight, that report has to be a joke, his team is still playing. Plus, Mitch said he wouldn't pay a ton of money for mediocrity, and that's Dwight defined perfectly.
