    For what it's worth...

Oklahoma City beat writer Fred Katz who writes for the Norman Transcript says that there are some executives that are convinced Westbrook goes to the Lakers next summer. Here is the link: http://www.normantranscript.com/spo...cle_d9a1e7fe-42d2-11e6-9107-43d0bff36e50.html

In that article he says the Thunder may look to trade him sooner rather than later out of fear of losing him for nothing. If Westbrook refuses to guarantee the Thunder he'll stay, they'll trade him before getting nothing like when Durant left. Katz goes on to say the C Bags, Wolves, Lakers, and Nuggets all make sense as potential landing spots.

Howard Beck who is working for Bleacher Report right now says that the C Bags make the most sense as a landing spot as well.

This is all coming off the heels of Broussard's assertion that the Lakers feel comfortable they can make a run at Westbrook in FA so they will not trade any of their young assets to get him.

I think we're insane if we trade for him. Even if he "promises" us he'll extend. He can wait until the next season. It would be his first great act as leader of this team.

i think if you offer nothing, you run the risk of him going to boston, liking it there, and not signing in la. plus, he'd have the 5-year max wherever he gets traded. i'd certainly consider moving russell for him if we got assurances he'd stay. i'd prefer clarkson/randle, though. in any case, as i said before, i think you want to at least be in on the bidding. make sure he doesn't go for nothing to a rival.

If we lost Russell and then Westbrook didn't come here, I'd freak out.

That's basically my position. If we get Westbrook, I'm okay losing Russell. I'm not sure Westbrook is a perfect fit for this offense, but I'm definitely sure I don't care. I'm not saying sell the farm for him, but I want to at least see what it would take.

If Westbrook REALLY wants to come to LA which I find doubtful after 3 years of embarrassment then let him come to LA in a reasonable manner. I will not gut the team. Most I'd even consider offering is Russell/Randle, but anything past that and I'll take my chances.

If he likes it in Boston then I don't want him anyway. If he is forced to go there by trade and then leaves as soon as possible to sign with us then I'll gladly embrace him. The second scenario is my ideal one. Boston gets weaker and we get stronger. Win win.

He can agree to the same ext as harden just did if okc tells him they'll trade him then. Okc will get more in return but if he is dead set like melo and nyk and say he only goes to la with the ext. Im only offering randle and future picks im not giving them dlo or ingram..jc i would consider moving but he cant be packaged in a trade till dec

We gona regret trading dlo for westbrook imo....while we can call kd a puss or whatever, fact of the matter westbrook played a big part of his decision to leave okc. So how are so sure getting wb will attract other big name fa when he has been proven to do the exact opposite?

@therealdeal you were right about the salary cap floor and the room we hhave; mentioned in the B. Ingram thread. I PMed him for clarification. This is his response.

    Bard207:

Yes and I should have stayed away from mentioning the Room Exception when they still have millions left to spend between the Salary Floor and the Salary Cap.

With a Salary Cap of $94 million, the Salary Floor would be:

    $94 X 90% = 84.6 million

    Los Angeles Lakers Team Salary

For the 2016 - 2017 season, I will use the salary information from the first column with two slight changes:

    $18,000,000......Luol Deng
    $16,000,000......Timofey Mozgov
    $12,500,000......Jordan Clarkson
    $7,708,427........Jose Calderon
    $7,000,000........Lou Williams
    $5,443,918........Nick Young
    $5,332,800........D'Angelo Russell
    $3,267,120........Julius Randle
    $1,207,680........Larry Nance Jr.
    $1,034,956........Ivica Zubac
    $874,636...........Anthony Brown

    $4,401,400.........Ingram (Cap Hold)
    $1,180,431.........Tarik Black (Cap Hold)
    ______________

    $83,951,368

The two changes are bringing the salary number for Tarik Black down to his Cap Hold of $1,180,431 and put the Cap Hold in for Ingram at $4,401,400.

Now to do the above with Black at his projected salary and Ingram at his expected salary which would be 20% above his Cap Hold:

    $18,000,000......Luol Deng
    $16,000,000......Timofey Mozgov
    $12,500,000......Jordan Clarkson
    $7,708,427........Jose Calderon
    $7,000,000........Lou Williams
    $5,443,918........Nick Young
    $5,332,800........D'Angelo Russell
    $3,267,120........Julius Randle
    $1,207,680........Larry Nance Jr.
    $1,034,956........Ivica Zubac
    $874,636...........Anthony Brown

    $5,281,680........Ingram
    $6,191,000........Tarik Black
    ____________

    $89,842,217

Even after signing Tarik and Ingram, they would still have a bit over $4 million left to offer a Free Agent before hitting the $94 million Salary Cap and would have no need to use a Room Exception which is limited to $2.898 million for the 2016 - 2017 season.

How is Brandon Bass not signed anywhere yet? Did we kill his value that much after years and years of solid play? Also, Nick Young needs to go already.

There's no way Boston gives up assets for Westbrook without some assurances he re-ups there, and that's true of every potential trade partner. If Westbrook gets traded, which he almost certainly will because OKC is too shrewd to let him walk for nothing, it will be to someplace he feels comfortable staying for the foreseeable future. Our FO is operating at peak dumb if they really think this scenario of Wetsbrook walking to the Lakers in FA is happening. We need to either trade for him (meaning bye bye Russell/Randle or something of equal value) or we make our piece with moving forward with our young guys. I'm fine with either. I'm not fine with our FO being the only FO that doesn't get how this is going to work.

If Westbrook isn't coming here as FA, then he's not staying here after a trade. Yes, he'll have an "extra" year and $, but he'll have lost two good pieces on this team. Clearly, the best solution is for him to walk, come here on a 1+1 (TO). Opt out, re-sign, and keep all the young guys.

    Westbrook/Clarkson
    Russell/Lou?
    Ingram/Deng
    Randle/Nance
    Mozgov/Zubac

Add in some ring chasers, and we're a really, really good team.

...stands to logic. Why come on board a team that lost two [maybe three] talented players just to clear space for you? OKC though will either try to build around Westbrook which I believe will happen or trade him for something in return. To be honest, the Thunder is really his team now with some talent around him. Westbrook likely will stick around to try prove a point and see what he can do with his own crew.

What if he took the minimum for a year to play in GS?

    Curry
    Westbrook
    Thompson
    Durant
    T. Rodgers

    Champions.

Anything is possible... Westbrook however has that edge to him where he won't kowtow to anyone much less be just another cog. Pride...

That's all assuming that he a) desperately wants to be here and b) that our young players step forward in an enormous way. If they don't and he doesn't, he has no reason to come here and we're in a far, far worse position... We're in the Nuggets and Orlando situation where we have a bunch of young players that aren't good enough to get you there, but are what you're forced to build around.

I'm down for the long game, but we should keep in mind it's entirely possible they never get as far as we want them to.

I'm fine either way. I like our young players.
