That is a crazy number for Crabbe. Clarkson's deal just looks better and better.

I don't know to tell you the truth. Back in the 80s there were not these dog and pony shows to recruit free agents. The fact they exist now in my view does not mean: 1 they are valued over winning and/or $ and 2 we should judge someone based upon how they speak in that new iteration of a meeting to woo a prospect. I agree mitch seems like he is lacking based upon what we see in the press but I'm not in the dog and pony show and not in a position to judge I guess. These guys who need that sort of attention or coddling are sort of embarrassing themselves -'d12 and melo for example. Durant will be an interesting decision. He ought to sign a 1 year deal with okc-'knowing his character and history. If he does - does it mean their fo was the best pitch? I say no. Because to me - to say yes insults the intelligence of the athlete or those around them.

I don't know the details of the show either, but I do know one thing: if I'm selling against Mark Cuban I don't want someone with Mitch's personality representing me. Mitch is many things, but a salesman I don't think he is. I've been a salesman, I know! :D

I think ideally you move Mitch into a position like Jerry had where he can still have his pulse on the team without needing to stress about building us back up. Jim is out (preferably his sister too, but I know that's too much to ask for). Bring in someone qualified within the field for that position, don't know one off the top of my head. Hire a new GM for Mitch's place. Promote Ryan West to officially the Assistant GM spot, groomed to take over in a few years. Promote Jesse Buss to run all scouting as he's been fantastic. Bring in Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant as minority owners and have them pitch to FAs what it means to be a rich, famous athlete in LA. They can speak both to the nightlife and to the court. Obviously have Luke in there to close deals with his know-how on the floor.

Doesn't that sound great? Doesn't that sound more like what we should be doing?

At that price? I don't know. I guess so. I like Crabbe a lot, but to bring him in over a backup C or a backup PG for that kind of money is a bold, weird move. Sounds like Brookyn jumped the gun and started reporting stuff though.

Who who have imagined Allen Crabbe would earn upwards of 70 million dollars after just one good year as an NBA player? Crazy!

Alec before he got fat. :D

We need to modernize is all I'm saying and I think to do that, you bring in new energy. Magic is the absolute perfect salesman for us and we have just tossed him to the side. I think an enormous part of that is the pseudo-sibling rivalry of Jim and Magic, but if Jim is out then there's no problems anymore. I think it's just time to move in that direction. Jim was given his shot and Mitch's wagon is hitched to that horse. They're going to have to go down with this ship together.

It was a few months ago Mitch said something to the effect of (in regards to Byron coaching) "sometimes the coach is here just to get us to the next level and then somebody else has to come in". I think we're at that point with Mitch. He's served tremendously for us, but it's time to look in a new direction.

If Durant leaves OKC for GS, it makes sense. Anywhere else and he's making a HUGE mistake. OKC was 1 game away and they got a lot better on draft day.

I am all for a FO purge. Here's the deal, though, IMO. Jeanie has by all accounts done a great job on the business side, but I don't trust here basketball acumen to conduct and pick the right basketball mind. That's not her expertise.

This is where Phil might come into play, and I don't want Phil back in any capacity with us. It's time to move on.

The question is who is the most qualified within the existing FO to conduct a thorough search to head up the role of a potential General Manager Vacancy? Can the Busses' unify and come up with a solution if/when a Front Office purge takes place? Can Mitch aid is on any capacity? Do they even know where to start and what to look for?

I don't know the answer to those questions. I do know we need a change, but I feel optimistic about next season.

Since he may still be an option...

I think to start he'd see plenty of playing time. You'd have to think that signing would signal the end of the Lou Williams era, whom I think we could get some trade capital back for due to his very low (in this market) contract.

Those moves would make our depth chart/minute distribution look something like this:

You can add Anthony Brown a little into that wing mix.

But yeah, these players would have a lot of versatility, so you can see how they'd play different positions depending on who else is on the floor, matchups, etc.

It's a great point. I have no idea who would be qualified to run that position or who we would look for (President of bball Ops). I honestly wouldn't know where to start. The only thing I could think of (and what Jeanie said she'd do) is they'd have to go out and explore other teams and see what makes them tick. Mitch might be able to help there as part of his adviser capacity. Or heck we just make the GM also be president of bball ops? We've now got an extra split that I'm not sure other teams have: two presidents. I don't know how to continue in that capacity.

Magic was recently stripped of his honorary title but that coincided with comments he made on Twitter. Wonder if there was fear of a tampering charge against the organization- that was how I looked at it at the time -'not an intent tI kick magic to the curb.

@Lakerman JSJ I like those minute distribution. I can see Randle playing some Center, ala Draymond, in that small ball system. Not a huge amount, but something to mix things up. I'm hoping Ingram can earn more minutes than that late in the season.

I would just re-sign Bass and call it an offseason. There's still some holes on the roster like backup point guard, but we've spent so much money already I just don't see anyone left that is worth eating into our cap space next season. Nobody will pick up is gonna put us over the top as far as the playoffs are concerned. You re-sign Bass and you've got three quality veterans to compliment our young core.

We're probably still only around a 30 win team and that's okay. Making the playoffs in one season with a new head coach no real difference makers added in free agency and having such a young and that's just not realistic. I can't think of any team that's done that in the West without at least an All Star and as good as our young guys could be they're at least a couple of years from having anyone out of the group play at a high level like that.

It is dissapointing even though I'm happy with the signings I really thought we'd be able to get an impact player. Maybe not Durant, but someone like Whiteside or DeRozan and maybe that's my fault for having too high of expectations. I bought into Mitch's whole we have a lot more to sell and clearly that wasn't the case. I don't think I've overrated the young core, but I do think I have overrated that making us more attractive because they clearly aren't because they really haven't gotten their feet wet yet.

I'm hoping Durant chooses the Warriors or anyone really besides the Thunder. That to me gives us a legit shot at Westbrook next year. He's not staying out with the Thunder without Durant. With a year of experience and growth our young core will be a lot more attractive, we'd still have some decent role players like Deng, Bass, Lou, and Mozgov. Some teams out there could probably offer more, but I truly believe playing at home and leading this young group of guys provided they show enough will entice Westbrook a lot. If not we should still at least have a shot at a secondary player who can catapult us into the postseason.

There's a lot to be excited about, but there's still that cloud hanging over this franchise's house with the front office. Something has got to give there. We can't just keep having people in the organization walking around on egg shells. Part of changing the culture is also having a front office that people will believe in. Hopefully they do the right thing and bring in a fresh face who knows how to build a modern day roster.
