How many offers can we have out there without seeming ridiculous? I like the idea of offering on a few guys, giving them short windows, and seeing what happens. Like Harrison Barnes: 4 years, 17, 18, 19, 20 a year. That's 74M over four seasons. GS might match, which is fine. He might get more elsewhere, which is fine. If he likes it and wants to agree in principle within, say, 48 hours, then we get him at a price far under max, which is fine.

I could see KD being more on board if LAC moved Griffin.

    Paul
    Redick(?)
    Durant
    Mbah a Moute(?)/Johnson
    Jordan

If it weren't for Paul, I couldn't even hate that team. Add in Doc, and I despise them.

I think we can only put a player on the clock to decide if we offer them the max.

Otherwise we're hoping they take less AND telling them to hurry the hell up and decide. I know that would turn me off, so I wouldn't expect that tactic to work for getting the top free agents .

It's not for the top FAs ;) it's for clowns like Barnes who are worth $ and might become really good players but who aren't there yet. Or once were there. That's my thought.

Barnes has to decide if the wait is worth it. I'm happy with any of he following: he walks, GS matches, he signs.

Btw, I don't know what other people's careers are like, but in my field it's incredibly common to have someone offer you a job that requires you to move far and quickly and requires a decision in a couple of days, even if you have other irons in the fire. Maybe I'm a cold bastard bc of that.

This thread surely does move fast.

If our only addition ends up being Parsons at max, I might develop a drinking problem.

Completely comfortable with giving Batum the max and I think he can play the 2, especially in our new offense. We do need a starting caliber center so I hope we get one quick and fast, preferably Whiteside or Horford. A little bitter about Noah to NY, would have been okay with giving him $18mil per.

Still not a fan of the Conley addition but if he wants to come then sure, we need talent.

If we can get Horford or Whiteside, that's a win already. I'd be fine with spending the rest of the money filling out the roster instead of going after another max. Play the cards right and save a max slot for next season if needed.

Don't forget that we still need to sign JC as well.

And lastly, screw you KD. I can somewhat rationalize meeting with Boston, but the Clippers? I blame SAS for that one tbh.

Would you rather Parsons at the max, or absolutely no one at it?

I'll give Parsons a very short-term max deal. Like a year. Other than that, I'm not interested.

I'm very interested in Batum/Whiteside or Batum/Horford though. Very, very interested. If there was some way to swing that, I'd do it 100 out of 100 times.

Whiteside is our best shot at getting a real "top FA". I think Horford goes to a contender, and I'm still not too confident in us getting Whiteside.

No one at max. But overpay for vets, i.e. Deng.

    Parsons' knees scare me.

Here's to Walton's intelligence and people skills convincing free agents to sign on board...

This is my hope ever since we hired him. And now even more since the release of the hit piece from (Jeanie) and Ding right before this incredibly important FA period in our rise from the Paul trade being rescinded, Mike Brown hired, Nash & Howard debacles, Mike 'Antoni hired and Boron the a-hole finally pouring gas on the burning Lakers organization to complete the devastation.

But Mitch and scouting staff brought us great new talent with the picks fortunately kept while the tank commander was doing his thing. Now it's up to Luke to be the main factor in washing away the stink. Screw you Ding. I hope he took some heat professionally from colleagues as well.

Yes...Kupchak is knowledgeable but a dry personality. The Buss siblings are shaky on how to conduct meetings. They are lucky to draw on Walton's growing confidence and relate-able demeanor. On top of that, our young coach has already established a well respected rep among players and coaches. Before him we used to have an exuberant figurehead, a clueless bumpkin and a cantankerously stubborn retread...

...crazy part of me is thinking Ding covers the Warriors so yeah. Basic paranoia and a persecution complex? Could be... Just a fan driven with Riley's "peripheral opponents" mantra. Can't trust a media man with a pen or a laptop. No where to go but up.

No denying Whitesides talent but his comments of late remind me of Andrew Bynum's. Don't know if this kid values basketball and getting better as much as a large payday.

I trust Lakers FO to vet his character but you can't blame me for preferring Hirford and Batum. Both stand out locker room guys.

I just don't see why Horford would come to LA. at 30 years old, I see him going to a team that he can put over the top versus being a steady vet to help develop our youth.

Yep...we have a conscientious group of young men who need a stable presence to stay the course whom we can't afford to be led astray by copping the same mindset. Walton will have his work cut out for him with Whiteside.

Bynum was the same way but that Laker squad he was on was loaded with veterans with professional attitudes that would not tolerate any nonsense.
