You can get some less inexpensive wings that fit our team if we are worried about injury concerns with Parsons.

I'm hoping we take a look at Williams. He's shown a lot of progress.

Absolutely. And there are definitely pluses to adding him when he's healthy.

first team to put max on the table will get parsons. dude wants the cash. i won't get into matters of "worth" given the changing economic climate in the nba right now, but i think he's clearly one of the top 3 sfs on the market (i don't consider durant or lebron in our market). his injuries scare me enough to prefer offering max to barnes, however. batum's max is 4 million higher, and he seems unlikely to leave.

i think parsons goes to orlando. he's from near there, they have an open spot at sf, and they need someone in his age and skill range. makes sense for both sides.

if the lakers want barnes, it seems like gs is chasing every big name out there. if they get any of them, they likely won't keep barnes at anything over, say 16-17 per-- i'd peg it to green and klay's salaries.

after that, you're looking at the courtney lees and solomon hills of the world. while i like both, i'm not sure they'll come as cheaply as folks might hope, which would still make barnes the top of my list.

What little I saw of Parsons was not good. I lack faith in him. I would agree that Barnes is a greater risk. His final was systematic of a Warriors team giving way to a surging Cav's team. All it proved was Barnes is not a leader. I believe he will not have a series that bad ever again. Learning curves and somesuch.

Barnes isn't worth that much now. He light continue to improve and become that player. Or he might be a role player who was maxed out in a system that fit him to a tee.

Very happy with our leaked targets so far.

I think we have a very good shot at both Whiteside and Parsons. Neither seem to be going after the ring. They're about location, fit, feeling wanted/needed, team environment, and most of all...money.

I think Luke is the key to the Parsons meeting. If he leads that meeting, I think we walk away with an inked contract.

I agree with the sentiment that Deng would be a good presence with Whiteside, but I think we'll have an easier time getting Parsons. Then we can chase vet roster filling babysitters and locker room leaders after securing the two max guys.

Little concerned with Whiteside for off court reasons, but the reward far outweighs the risk. Then it's up to a vet and Shaw to earn their paychecks to keep his eye on the prize.

Even if Whiteside only gives us 60-70% of his potential, it's still worth the risk of overpaying given the new salary cap. We have so much that we HAVE to spend with only 2 positions of "need," given the youth that we need to be developing.

I honestly think we should go after Marvin Williams rather than Chandler Parsons. This isn't to argue that Williams is better than Parsons, but Marvin is a little older, but not old. He had really good production in Charlotte last season. He is a great locker room guy (according to reports) and he is going to cost far less. I really, really don't get the idea of signing someone to a max deal that plays the same position where we just drafted a dude at #2. Sure Parsons may come in handy next year. Maybe even the year after. But those last two years will have us paying max money to a backup (granted Ingram turns out to be the real deal).

There's some debate about it. The Heat brought him off the bench occasionally. His lack of free throw shooting means he isn't in the game at the end. He doesn't always play as hard as he could and there's definitely a concern that when given a payday he'll just stop trying hard. There's some advanced statistics that show the Heat may have been as good or in some cases better defensively when Whiteside was off the floor.

When he's on the court Whiteside is a fantastic rim protector and pick-and-roll candidate. He finishes a ton around the rim, is a terrifying and capable rim protector, and when he's active he's a complete force. He's a great fit for D'Angelo offensively and defensively. I wouldn't say he's a perfect fit, but he does fit very well.

Whiteside sounds exactly like Bynum preinjury, sans the post play.

These type of players psychologically need to be involved both on the court and off to keep them motivated on both ends of the court. The moment they get the chance to screw up, they can.

It's almost inherent that we need a strong presence in the locker room whether it be the coaching staff or a veteran to keep a player like this in check.

It's like having the Hulk on the Avengers.

OK thanks, he sounds like the type of player Kobe absolutely despises; super-talented, with motivational issues. Hopefully Luke/Shaw could get through to him.... probably not. Why do our bigs always have these issues lol

I'd still take him though. We could always dump him for assets if he becomes a distraction. Nothing we haven't dealt with before. I feel he's lower risk than Bynum, who had injury AND psychological concerns.

Fwiw I think that a healthy Parsons is better than just about anyone we have any chance at. Better than Marvin Williams. He can also play the 4 for spurts in small ball with Julius at the 5.

Marvin Williams is good and might come more cheaply. If he's a lot cheaper, then that gives us $ for a backup vet PG.

A lot of big men end up having those egos. They're literally bigger and stronger than most people and they develop a complex. When he's motivated Hassan is a force. The problem is keeping his head focused in the right direction. There's small things he does even on the court that can be... frustrating. Even when you watch his highlights on Youtube he'll make a great play followed by some lazy effort. It strikes me how often he can go up and grab a block and control the possession but he likes to spike it instead which leads to extra possessions for the other team.

Still though he's 100% worth the trouble for us. First of all he's one of the very few elite FAs we have a shot at. Second what he does bring will be valuable to the team. Third we need the damn help so who are we to turn away big production and ability? Got to start somewhere.

Hmm why wouldn't they sign Biyombo first and sign Derozan with his Bird rights. Anyway, another FA center off the list.

Derozan has a cap hold about the size of his current salary. If the Raptors renounce the cap hold they also lose his bird rights. Cap holds were put in to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Otherwise teams could just time all their big contracts to expire at the same time, sign 4 max free agents then resign their guys to the max and have a 200 million dollar payroll...and go undefeated.
