Or maybe, just maybe he is who he has been his entire career? A high volume chucker who plays well on bad teams who goes through period of being up and down in his shooting?

    Just a thought.

Thing is... he doesn't have to chuck. He can get to the rim at will, he's quick, athletic, nice handles. But it is what it is i guess...

Nick has made fantastic strides as a player for us and I think it's unfair to start recharacterizing him as that guy after only a few bad games.

In LA he's learned to play better defense, he's learned to find his spots quicker, and he's learned not to over dribble. His next evolution people thought he'd learn to pass the ball more effectively but I think he needs to learn how to get to the free throw line.

If your shot isn't falling you get to the line and get in rhythm. Age old principle of basketball. I'm not worried about Nick, he'll come around.

He's always been a streaky shooter but when he's hot he'll light you up. He has improved defensively but he brings a lot to the lockeroom too. Everyone likes him.

Well, Nick is kinda hurting our team with his shooting: 4/12, 3/13, 4/15, 2/13, 3/11... He's 5/29 from 3 in the last 5 games.
Kobe can have a shooting slump, then he adjusts himself- he can rebound, he can pass, play D (not on 2002/03 level, but still). Nick cannot pass, cannot rebound and plays little D.
Your jumper is not falling- reload and get to the basket, get the layups, and-ones, etc. Swaggy just gambles too much with his shot, having fun out there, talking trash. He can do it on bad teams, outsiders. Not on a contender though.
We were blasting Kobe for shooting 38%FG, but he's 36 years old and in his 19th season in the NBA after a career-ending injury, double and triple teamed. But guess who else is shooting 38%FG, in his prime, with perfect ability to get to the basket. Is it that he just don't care? Attitude issues? Is Nick known for being uncoachable or smth?
If Lakers are a contender in the next few years I would think twice to have him on the team or not? How many minutes can he play?
No offense, we all love his cockiness and his style, but 38% just won't do...

Yeah... He's not helping w his shooting right now but I expect he'll get the hot hand back. He comes off the bench to do just that, spot up and score, so he has to shoot. He's not a post up player and he's not that quick to where he can regularly penetrate without getting hammered. He does have some handles though so he's one of the few guys that can create his own shot. The offense doesn't run through Nick like it runs through Kobe. We need his offense but I don't see him preventing other guys from scoring. Guys don't just stand around and watch Nick and he doesn't force horrible shots.

Coach Scott is right though that Nick needs to stop pouting and worrying about his shot not falling. Go do some other stuff for the team. Go draw a charge, go get a rebound, get to the basket. Stop stressing about the shot because otherwise it'll never fall. Kobe hasn't been around in a few games, he needs to come back just to get in Nick's head and tell him to calm down. Find other ways to contribute to the game.

Is it really a surprise that Nick Young’s FG% has declined this year? He doesn’t get great looks in this system.

Last year, Nick Young got a lot of open spot-up looks, and also easy baskets in transition/semi-transition.

    Ryan Kelapire @RyanKelapire · 13h 13 hours ago
Damn, 34.5% of Nick Young’s shots are off-the-dribble, and he’s shooting 35.4% on them. Gotta cut back.

    Ryan Kelapire @RyanKelapire · 13h 13 hours ago
Young shoots 41% on 3’s and 36% on 2’s (including shots in the paint). WHAT THE HELL.

Doesn't get good looks? I think that's mostly what he gets. The last few games maybe not so much, but most of the year he's done a good job of getting a shot that I think he should hit. He doesn't take Kobe shots most of the time; meaning he doesn't take shots that NO ONE should make. He gets to spot he likes, rises, and fires.

    Who is Ryan Kelapire?

There is some statistical truth to those statements. Some Nick Young stats comparing last season to this season...

    2013-2014:
10.5% of his shots are wide open (6+ feet)
27.6% of his shots are open (4-6 feet)
49.2% of his shots are slightly contested (2-4 feet)
12.8% of his shots are tightly contested (0-2 feet)

    2014-2015:
6.3% of his shots are wide open (6+ feet)
    21.1% are open (4-6 feet)
55.4% are slightly contested (2-4 feet)
16.4% are tightly contested (0-2 feet)

    Difference:
He shot more "wide open" shots (4.2% more) last year.
He shot more "open" shots (6.5% more) last year.
He shot less "contested" shots (6.2% less) last year.
He shot less "tightly contested" shots (3.6% less) last year.

That measures the distance between himself and the defender, right?

I don't know, I kind of like the shots he takes even if there's a guy in the vicinity. Usually he gets enough separation to make the shot despite the defender being near him.
